This journal had ever been changed into Jurnal Bahasa dan Seni during 2004-2013. In 2014 this journal is renamed as Komposisi: Jurnal Pendidikan Bahasa, Sastra, dan Seni applies open journal system (OJS) and peer-reviewed online journal in 2017 with Online ISSN 2548-9097.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to reveal (1) the nature of Minangkabau quatrains, (2) fundamental philosophy of Minangkabau quatrains and (3) the functions of Minangkabau quatrains. This research is uses the descriptive qualitative design. The results of the research show that (1) Minangkabau quatrains use Minangkabau language as means of communication, follow the philosophy of “from, by and for” Minangkabau society which are inspired from things related to Minangkabau and its thinking pattern and come from Minangkabau society, (2) the fundamental philosophy of Minangkabau quatrains is “alam takambang jadi guru”, (3) Minangkabau quatrains have some multifunctions for the life of the Minangkabau society. Abstract

The Tenggelamnya Kapal Van der Wijck is a phenomenal Hamka’s novel. One of the most important values in this novel is the author's criticism of the implementation of Minangkabau adat (custom) claiming to be based on the Islamic religion contained in the adatum Adat Basandi Syarak, Syarak Basandi Kitabullah (ABS-SBK) ‘custom is based on syariah, syariah is based on the Kitabullah (Al Quran)’. Abstract

The importance of English language course to be taught in most universities in Indonesia resulted in a policy especially at Universitas Negeri Padang in providing English as a General Course (MKU-English) to be taught to students. The importance of learning material in MKU-English attracted the attention of researchers to analyze the needs of students related to teaching materials such as what is the suitable teaching material to be taught to large classes such as MKU which contains students from various departments. This needs analysis research aims to identify and explain the needs of students that will be as the initial foundation of development of teaching materials covering aspects of the topics, types of text, and skill and components of the language. The samples of this research were 381 students who were taking MKU-English in academic year 2017-2018. By analyzing the results of the questionnaire that has been disseminated, it was found that the students wanted a variety of topics. In addition, students need to learn the types of argumentative and descriptive texts to support their reading skills. In addition, teaching materials are also emphasized on the integration of language components such as grammar.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the process of improving the year 7 students’ skill in writing narratives at class VII C of “SMP Negeri I Padang” by using serial pictures. The data of this study were the result of the observation on the actions of teachers in teaching process, students’ activities in learning, learning materials, and result of the narrative test. The data were collected by observation and testing techniques. The data obtained from the observations were analyzed qualitatively by using Schiedel model. Data in the form of the test results were analyzed quantitatively by using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The results of this study show that the use of serial pictures can improve students’ narrative writing skills.Kata-kata Kunci:menulis narasi, media gambar berseri, pembelajaran

Abstract

Kehadiran anak usia dini dalam aktivitas tari tumbuh dengan pesat. Hal itu tampak baik dalam pendikan formal maupun nonformal. Namun yang sangat memprihatinkan tidak ada perbedaan materi yang ditampilkan antara orang dewasa dengan anak-anak, sehingga apa yang disajikan tidak maksimal. Hal ini terjadi karena lagu atau gerak tari yang ditampilkan tidak sesuai dengan tingkat kemampuan anak, misalnya wilayah suara atau gerak anak sesuai dengan kapasitas struktur anatomi, yang pada gilirannya apa yang hendak disampaikan tidak komunikatif. Untuk mengatasi kendala tersebut diperlukan penggalian dan pengembangan potensi kreatif yang dimulai dari usia dini. Dapat di pastikan jika anak telah diasah dan diasuh dari usia dini untuk memaksimalkan kemampuan potensi geraknnya maka akan lahirlah sejumlah penari yang professional yang pada giliranya akan meujudkan penari-penari yang fungsional. Untuk mengatasi fenomena di atas diperlukan kepedulian dari berbagai pihak, misalnya koreografer harus memproduksi tari yang sesuai dengan tingkat kesulitan gerak yang mampu dicapai oleh anak-anak. Para seniman seni yang bertindak sebagai instruktur harus mempertimbangkan materi yang sesuai dengan dunia anak-anak agar mereka dapat menampilkannya lebih luwes dan fleksibel. Di sisi lain kepedulian pengamat seni seperti Taman Budaya, Dewan Kesenian juga sangat dibutuhkan dalam rangka memberi motivasi dan pengontrolan untuk menjaga kualitas baik lagu ataupun gerak tari yang ditampilkan. Abstract

PENGGUNAAN MEDIA PEMBELAJARAN MENULIS BAGI MAHASISWA BIPA UNTUK MEMAHAMI BUDAYA LOKALAbstract This research mainly discusses the use of learning media in writing for TISOL (Teaching Indonesia to Speaker of Other Language) students to understand the local culture in UPT Bahasa Universitas Sebelas Maret. The purpose of this research is to describe the use of learning media of TISOL students to understand local culture. The research method is qualitative descriptive by using naturalistic case study. Data in this research consists of  primary and secondary taken from informants, events and literature review. The technique of collecting data is by using observation, interview and study of document. Validity of data is conducted by using method and source triangulation. The result of analysis and discussion in this research shows that teacher uses learning media particularly in writing skill. Learning media in teaching writing for TISOL students is by using film, local music, picture, demonstration media, and real life of community. Furthermore, learning outside the class is conducted so that students are able to apply learning material directly in understanding local culture and improving writing skill.Keywords: media, writing skill, TISOL, local cultureAbstrakPenelitian ini membahas tentang penggunaan media pembelajaran menulis bagi mahasiswa BIPA untuk memahami budaya lokal di UPT Bahasa Universitas Sebelas Maret. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan media pembelajaran menulis bagi mahasiswa BIPA untuk memahami budaya lokal. Metode penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan menggunakan strategi penelitian studi kasus yang bersifat naturalistik. Data dalam penelitian ini terdiri atas data primer dan data sekunder dengan sumber data berupa informan, peristiwa, dan studi pustaka. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah observasi, wawancara, dan studi dokumen. Validitas data dilakukan dengan triangulasi metode dan triangulasi sumber. Hasil analisis dan pembahasan dalam penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pengajar menggunakan media pembelajaran, terutama pada keterampilan menulis. Media pembelajaran keterampilan menulis dalam pembelajaran BIPA adalah media film, musik lokal, gambar, media demonstrasi, serta kehidupan masyarakat sekitar. Selain itu, dilakukan pula pembelajaran di luar kelas agar mahasiswa dapat menerapkan materi belajar secara langsung untuk memahami budaya lokal dan meningkatkan keterampilan menulis.Kata kunci: media, pembelajaran menulis, BIPA, budaya lokal.

Abstract

The Complete Anthology of short stories written by AA Navis is the most complete collection of all short stories that have been written by Navis for fifty years of work. Based on a description and interpretation of data, theoretically, this study aims to (1) reveal the author's ideas and re-attempt the update against the ideologies of traditional Minangkabau society in ALCN which includes a description of Minangkabau culture, AA Navis with the process of creativity, as well as tradition and renewal, (2) develop and accumulate the research on the sociology of literature. Practically, this study aims to (1) provide advice and offers to the reader to constantly adapt and socialize to the demands and needs of the time by relying on rationality and morality, (2) provide an understanding of the short stories contained in ALCN. The research used the descriptive method of description of the facts followed by analysis of activities that include (1) forms the natural understanding of Minangkabau culture, AA Navis and authorship, (2) disclosure of Navis’ thoughts through theory and methods of sociological literature proposed by Swingewood Alan and Diana Laurenson, and (3) tradition and renewal efforts against traditional notions of ALCN. The results showed that the various ideas of Navis in ALCN are reflections of society psychological level and lead to a contradictive dialectical. Various complexity of community problems root on two things: (1) human nature is no longer guided by the nature, (2) the policy was decided without considering the principle of K4 (appropriateness and usefulness of togetherness and equality). Some thought the updates offered in ALCN are (1) awareness of human self to always adapt to the demands of the times, (2) implementation of worship should be interpreted rationally by humanitarian considerations, (3) renewal is a change in attitude towards a more humane and civilized; (4) acceptance of outside elements should be based on the principle of benefit and suitability, (5) philosophy stems renewal in humans and humanity, of nature as the basis for the interpretation and reasoning and rational thought. Abstract

Address forms is used to greet and to respect the other person. Address forms is used to strengthen the communication link between the speaker and the other person. The purpose of this research is to describe the form of address forms and the mean address forms used by students and teachers in learning Indonesian at Al Abidin Bilingual Boarding Senior High School. Research methodology is descriptive qualitative which aims to generate data based on existing phenomenon empirically and the result is what it is. Data collection methods that used in this research were enganged talk, note taking, and record technique. The results of this research indicate the address form used by students with other students in interacting with different address form by students to address teachers. Kata spaan digunakan untuk memperkuat hubungan komunikasi antara pembicara dan lawan bicara. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk sapaan dan makna sapaan yang digunakan oleh siswa dan guru dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di SMA Al Abidin Bilingual Boarding School. Metode penelitian ini adalah dekriptif kualitatif yang bertujuan untuk menghasilkan data berdasarkan fenomena yang ada secara empiris dan hasil bersifat apa adanya. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik simak bebas libat cakap, teknik catat, dan rekam. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bentuk sapaan yang digunakan siswa dengan siswa lainnya dalam berinteraksi berbeda dengan bentuk sapaan yang digunakan siswa untuk menyapa guru. Perbedaan pemilihan kata sapaan tersebut dipengaruhi oleh makna kekuasaan (power) dan makna solidaritas (solidarity).Kata kunci: kata sapaan, bentuk sapaan, makna sapaan, pembelajaran

Abstract

The aim of the art education is to develop both the students’ physical and mental states maximally. The dance art in particular, appear to be one of the subjects tought in elementary school. This subject is aimed at enabling the students toacquire art learning. The art experience is expected to give support in the education efforts.that is why the curriculm of the dance art does not demand the students to be famous or to be professional dancer although there must be some talented student in this area. Abstract

This study aims at finding out the effectiveness of ICT based Student Centered Learning Approach based on ICT toward prose appreciation ability of students at Indonesian Department UNP. The population was 141 students classified into four classes at sixth semester at 2011/2012 academic year. By clustering random sampling, class C with 36 students was assigned as the experimental group, and class D with 36 students was assigned as the experimental group. The design of this study was controlled-group pretest to posttest to find out students’ prose appreciation ability. At the beginning of this study, both groups were normally distributed; indicated by the same variety and there is no significant difference in their abilities at prose appreciation. The finding of this study revealed that there was a difference of their abilities at prose appreciation. The calculation, tobs (7,5072) >ttable (2,0301) showed that students at experimental group, who used ICT based Student Centered Learning Approach, achieved the passing grades. While the control group with the calculation of tobs (-0,3241) <ttable (2,0301), the students could not achieve the passing grades. This means that ICT based Student Centered Learning Method effectively improves students’ ability at prose appreciation.
