The population in this study was all of class X MIA, totaling 212 students, of SMA Negeri 8 Medan. The research sampling technique is purposive sampling technique. Non-equivalent control group design is the type of the research design. The sample in the study consisted of an experimental class, namely class X MIA 6, and a control class, namely class X MIA 5. The experimental class was treated with differentiated learning strategies, while the control class was treated with conventional learning. The research instruments used were multiple-choice questions and student observation sheets. The average score of the posttest for the experimental class was 76.28 with a standard deviation of 6.9, and that of the control class was 72.08 with a standard deviation of 6.7. The pretest and posttest data obtained have been analyzed and met the prerequisites for testing the hypothesis, namely, the data is normally distributed and is homogeneous. The result of the right-tailed t-test on the hypothesis obtained the value of tcount > ttable, namely 2.608 > 2.002 whit = 0.05. Based on the testing criteria, the accepted hypothesis is H, which means that there is an effect of the treatment that is the use of practicum tool with different learning strategies on student learning outcomes at SMA Negeri 8 Medan for the 2022/2023 academic year. The result of the simple linear regression equation is Y = 65.9 + 0.34X.

Abstract

The study aims to determine students' conceptual understanding of work and energy in various representations. The research method used in this study is a mixed method with a sequential explanatory design. The data in this study were quantitative data and qualitative data. Quantitative data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics. The research subjects consisted of 45 physics students at Universitas Negeri Malang who had taken the fundamental of physics course I. In this study, 10 multiple choice questions were used on the work and energy topic presented in various representations. The results showed that the understanding of concepts in the work and energy topic in various representations was still relatively low, which was indicated by the average score of students only reaching 42.22. The lowest concept of understanding occurs in the sub-material of work and kinetic energy, which is presented in a mathematical representation. Some of the errors experienced by students in the concept of work include: (1) students assume that gravity is the same as the tensile force on the block, (2) work is an ordinary product of force and displacement, and (3) do not pay attention to the meaning of the multiplication symbol between vector quantities. While in the concept of kinetic energy, the errors experienced include: (1) students use equations in the form of conclusions without starting from the variables raised in the problem and (2) assume that kinetic energy is only influenced by mass, so that they do not consider the speed of the two objects.

Abstract

The Problem Based Learning (PBL) model is considered as one of the effective approaches to develop problem-solving skills in students. Hence, the purpose of this study is to assess the problem-solving abilities of eighth-grade students in SMPN 3 Samarinda using the PBL model. The research design employed in this study is descriptive quantitative. The data collection took place at SMPN 3 Samarinda with a total sample of 26 class VIII students. This research yielded the finding that the ability to solve problems for the indicator of understanding the problem reaches 73.50%, then the indicator of making plans obtains the proportion of 49.15%, then the indicator of carrying out the plan 40.17% and finally the indicator of re-examination is obtained 37.18%. So that the average proportion of all indicators capable of solving problems is 50%, this proportion is included in the sufficient category. In accordance with these findings, it can be interpreted that more science material is needed which is taught using the PBL model so that the profile of the problem-solving skills of the students can be better
