Abstract

This study aims to analyze the interpersonal communication strategies employed by ustadzah in supporting the tahfiz motivation of female students at Rumah Qur’an Maskanul Huffadz. This study employed a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation involving three ustadzah and three female students selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was examined through source and technique triangulation. The findings show that the interpersonal communication strategies employed by the ustadzah included personal approaches, spiritual motivation, emotional support, appreciation of memorization progress, dialogue to address obstacles, and exemplary behavior. These strategies reflected the interpersonal communication dimensions of openness, empathy, supportiveness, positiveness, and equality. Personal and dialogical communication contributed to creating a comfortable learning environment, strengthening students’ self-confidence and discipline, and helping them maintain motivation when facing boredom and difficulties in memorizing the Qur’an. The findings indicate that interpersonal communication employed by ustadzah functions not only as a medium for delivering tahfiz instruction but also as a means of providing emotional and spiritual guidance to female students.

Abstract

This study analyzes the pattern of Collaborative Governance in the agricultural production input assistance program in Pandeglang Regency and the obstacles to its implementation in supporting SDG 2. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation from informants selected using purposive sampling. The analysis applies the Ansell and Gash framework through data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings show that the program is supported by a clear division of roles, regulations, data management, distribution mechanisms, and digital monitoring systems. However, collaboration remains dominated by hierarchical administrative coordination rather than equal joint decision-making. The main obstacles include the mismatch between fertilizer distribution and the planting calendar, limited aid allocation, unequal authority between central and local governments, and weak farmer feedback mechanisms. The program has the potential to support smallholder productivity and food availability, but increases in agricultural production cannot be directly attributed to the program. Strengthening collaboration requires more adaptive distribution, transparent allocation, updated data, and more substantive farmer participation.

Abstract

This article delineates the semantic typology and interpretative nuances of the Indonesian interjection aduh alongside its functional equivalents in Nias. The inquiry addresses two gaps: the paucity of systematic investigations into aduh using Natural Semantic Metalanguage (NSM) and the absence of a comprehensive account of its Nias counterparts (aökö, e bale, edah). Data were elicited through participatory observation and semantic-ethnographic interviews with L1 speakers of Indonesian in Medan and native speakers of the Gunungsitoli Nias dialect. Qualitative analysis employed semantic explication. Findings reveal that Indonesian aduh exhibits a polysemous structure encompassing emotive, volitive, and cognitive types. In contrast, Nias has no single equivalent: aökö functions as emotive (sudden physical pain) and volitive (request/reprimand); e bale functions as emotive (empathy with explicit hope); while edah functions across types as emotive (annoyance), volitive (reprimand with explicit consequences), and cognitive (evaluation of new information). The semantic differentiation of interjections serves as a linguistic reflex of divergent cultural scenarios.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze verbal abuse in parenting and children’s emotional responses in Batumbulan Village, Babussalam District, Southeast Aceh Regency. The study focuses on parents’ understanding of verbal and nonverbal abuse, forms of verbal communication used in parenting, and children’s emotional responses to such treatment. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. The informants consisted of 11 participants, including five female parents aged 29–42 years, five children aged 6–12 years, and one village head as a supporting informant. The main informants were selected purposively based on predetermined criteria. Data were collected through non-participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Data credibility was examined through source and technique triangulation, while data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, conclusion drawing, and verification. The findings show that some parents had limited understanding of verbal abuse because child abuse was more commonly understood as physical violence. In parenting practices, the forms of communication identified included scolding, shouting, using a high tone of voice, and giving harsh reprimands when children made or repeatedly made mistakes. Based on the children’s experiences, such communication was associated with various emotional responses, including sadness, disappointment, fear, embarrassment, crying, hurt feelings, silence or withdrawal, and reduced self-confidence. These findings indicate the need to improve parents’ understanding of the boundary between disciplinary practices and communication involving verbal abuse. The use of positive, calm, and respectful communication is important for creating a safer parenting environment for children’s emotional development.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the communication strategy of the Terjun Urban Village Government in managing social media as a means of public communication and building a positive government image within the community. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach, using Middleton’s communication strategy as the main analytical framework, supported by Excellence Theory and the perspective of new media communication. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with government officials and community members who use social media, observations of social media management activities, and documentation of published content. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the Terjun Urban Village Government employs Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp to disseminate public service information, document government and community activities, and establish interaction with residents. The communication strategy is implemented through the development of informative and accessible messages, the selection of media that are widely used by the community, and responses to public questions and feedback. Social media management also contributes to shaping community perceptions of the local government as active, transparent, and accessible. However, its implementation remains constrained by limited human resources, inadequate technical skills in digital content management, inconsistent content publication, and limited public participation in digital interaction. The study demonstrates that strengthening the capacity of social media managers and developing more effective two-way communication mechanisms are necessary to optimize social media as an instrument of public communication at the urban village level.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the makeup, costumes, and props used in the Turak Dewa Dance developed at Sanggar Sastra Mataya, Banyuasin. The study employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation involving the studio leader, choreographer, and dancer as research informants. Data validity was established through source and technique triangulation, while data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that the makeup used in the Turak Dewa Dance is corrective makeup that functions to emphasize facial features, clarify expressions, and support the representation of strong female characters in accordance with the dance's theme of struggle. The costumes consist of head, body, and lower-body components, including the gunungan, flowers, gandik, kembang urai, earrings, kalung susun tigo, baju kurung, bracelets, pending, selendang samir, and batik fabric with songket motifs. The use of green, red, and gold colors, together with songket motifs, strengthens the visual identity and cultural representation of South Sumatra. The dance prop is made of wood and designed to resemble bamboo, functioning as a symbolic representation of turak and supporting the dance movements, particularly the Ngetok Turak Dewa movement. The use of wood represents a technical adaptation intended to reduce the risk of bamboo breaking during performances. These findings indicate that makeup, costumes, and props function not only as aesthetic supporting elements but also as components that construct the character, visual identity, and symbolic meaning of the Turak Dewa Dance as a newly choreographed dance work rooted in tradition. This study contributes documentation of the visual elements of the Turak Dewa Dance that can serve as a reference for further performing arts research and dance education.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to explore clients' interpersonal communication experiences with spiritual ministers in the process of self-concept restoration at the Yayasan Penginjilan dan Penelaahan Alkitab (YPDPA) in North Sumatra, focusing on the clients' motives for engaging in communication and their interpretation of symbolic interactions throughout the process. This qualitative study employed Alfred Schutz's phenomenological approach to understand the informants' lived experiences and motives for action. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving three clients as primary informants and one spiritual minister as a supporting informant. The findings indicate that clients' interpersonal communication experiences were driven by because-of motives, including past experiences of trauma, guilt, inner conflict, and negative self-perceptions, as well as in-order-to motives, including the desire for self-acceptance, identity reconstruction, and the development of a more positive self-concept. Symbolic interactions within interpersonal communication were interpreted by clients through verbal and nonverbal messages conveyed by the spiritual minister, including the use of a crumpled Rp100,000 banknote as a symbol representing the idea that a person's value remains intact despite experiencing difficulties and making mistakes. Empathetic and open communication, supported by the communicator's credibility and a safe interactional environment, was experienced by clients as contributing to changes in the way they perceived themselves. Thus, interpersonal communication within the context of spiritual ministry at YPDPA functions not merely as an exchange of messages but also as an intersubjective space through which clients express their experiences, develop new meanings, and reconstruct their self-concept.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the communication adaptation experiences of student digital freelancers when interacting with international clients. The study focuses on adjustments in language, communication styles, work culture, information management, and the selection of digital communication media in cross-border work interactions. A qualitative method with a phenomenological approach was employed, using the perspective of Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC). Data were collected through in-depth interviews and documentation involving three student digital freelancers with experience working with international clients. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, and were subsequently interpreted based on the CMC dimensions of accessibility, speed, amount, cognitive effectiveness, relevance, and motivating. The findings show that students adapt their communication by simplifying language and messages, clarifying information, adjusting to clients’ work cultures and communication rhythms, and selecting communication media according to the needs of particular interactions. These adaptations not only help reduce potential miscommunication but also serve as a continuous learning process through which students understand client characteristics, develop mutual understanding, and improve their digital communication competencies. The study demonstrates that communication adaptation is an essential competency for student digital freelancers in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships within international work environments.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the legal protection of children from cyber grooming practices in Indonesia and compare it with the legal framework in Australia. The study is driven by the absence of explicit legal provisions criminalizing cyber grooming as a distinct criminal offense, resulting in legal uncertainty in its enforcement. It employs the theories of legal protection, child protection, and criminal law policy. Data were collected through library research by examining legislation, legal literature, scholarly journals, and other relevant legal documents. The findings reveal that regulations concerning cyber grooming in Indonesia remain fragmented across the Child Protection Law, the Sexual Violence Crimes Law, and the Electronic Information and Transactions Law, none of which specifically criminalize the offense. This study contributes to the development of the concept of preparatory offences within preventive criminal law policy against cybercrime involving children. Unlike previous studies focusing mainly on victim protection, this research offers novelty through a comparative analysis of the legal systems of Indonesia and Australia, emphasizing preventive criminalization. It concludes that Indonesia should enact specific legislation on cyber grooming, strengthen digital law enforcement, and enhance digital literacy to improve child protection in cyberspace
