Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Arabic language learning (writing skills/maharah kitabah) in class 8A1 at MTs Negeri 2 Surakarta using the Stake’s Countenance Model. This model consists of three main components: antecedents (planning), transactions (implementation), and outcomes (learning results). The research employed a descriptive qualitative evaluative approach. Data were collected through observations, written tests, and documentation, then analyzed using contingency analysis to compare the ideal and actual conditions, accompanied by judgments regarding their level of conformity. The findings show that in the planning component, the teacher demonstrated good readiness through complete learning tools, although media innovation and the use of technology still need improvement. In terms of implementation, the learning process ran effectively and according to plan; however, time management needs to be improved to ensure more optimal activities. In the outcome component, students' writing abilities showed strong achievement, particularly in imla’ and insya’. The contingency analysis also revealed a strong relationship between planning readiness and successful learning outcomes. Overall, the effectiveness of maharah kitabah learning in class 8A1 can be categorized as good, although several improvements are still needed to enhance the quality of future learning.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the strategies for instilling Islamic educational values as a means of strengthening student character at Madrasah Babul Mujahidin Bayan, Lombok. The research focuses specifically on the forms of strategies employed in character development at Madrasah Babul Mujahidin. This study utilizes a qualitative approach, specifically a case study design. Data collection techniques involved observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, with the madrasah principal, teachers, and students serving as informants. The findings indicate that the strategy for instilling Islamic educational values is implemented through several approaches: habituation, role modeling, the integration of values into classroom instruction, and routine religious activities such as congregational prayers, Quran recitation, and moral guidance. Furthermore, character strengthening is reinforced through a religious madrasah culture and a supportive social environment. The implementation of these strategies contributes positively to student character formation, as evidenced by increased discipline, responsibility, courtesy, and religious observance. This study concludes that a strategy integrating formal instruction, habituation, and role modeling serves as the key to strengthening student character based on Islamic educational values..

Abstract

Pesantren, as the oldest Islamic educational institution in Indonesia, faces the challenge of adapting to globalization and modernization in the 21st century. This research aims to analyze pesantren modernization strategies in preparing globally competitive students without abandoning Islamic identity. The method employed is library research with a qualitative descriptive approach, examining various academic sources related to pesantren educational transformation. The study results show that pesantren modernization includes the integration of traditional curricula with national and international curricula, the development of 21st-century competencies (critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, and digital literacy), strengthening foreign language skills, and the utilization of information technology in learning. Effective transformation strategies include adaptive leadership, the development of international networks, and global alumni empowerment. The research conclusion affirms that moderate integration between tradition and modernization represents an ideal model for producing a generation of Muslims who are moral, critical, digitally literate, and prepared to face global challenges

Abstract

This study discusses foregrounding in expressing melancholy and nostalgia in Lana Del Rey’s song lyrics. Although many studies have analyzed figurative language in song lyrics, few have focused on foregrounding as the main analytical framework. This study aims to identify the forms and functions of foregrounding in the songs The Greatest and Happiness Is a Butterfly. This research applies a descriptive qualitative method based on Geoffrey Leech’s (1969) theory of foregrounding. The findings show that foregrounding is realized through semantic deviation and parallelism. Semantic deviation appears through figurative expressions and is more dominant, functioning to construct melancholy, while parallelism appears through repetition and functions to construct nostalgia. In conclusion, this study shows that foregrounding plays an important role in expressing emotional meanings in song lyrics through non-literal and patterned language. This study contributes to stylistic analysis by explaining how linguistic features construct emotional meaning in contemporary song lyrics.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) needs of students in the Public Sector Financial Management Program at the Lombok Business Academy. This study uses a mixed-methods approach with a descriptive design to obtain a comprehensive picture of students’ academic English needs. The research subjects consisted of 54 students selected using total sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires, diagnostic tests, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using descriptive statistics and thematic analysis. The results indicate that students have high needs regarding English language skills, particularly in writing (M = 4.60), reading (M = 4.42), and speaking (M = 4.35). However, students’ actual proficiency remains in the low to moderate categories, with writing (59.8) and speaking (61.2) scores being the lowest, while reading (67.5) and listening (64.3) fall into the moderate category. Additionally, the majority of students are in the low and moderate proficiency categories (86%), while only 14% are in the high proficiency category. Students also face various challenges, such as limited vocabulary (76%), difficulty constructing academic sentences (72%), and low self-confidence in speaking (67%). The gap analysis results indicate a significant gap in writing and speaking skills. Based on these findings, English language instruction in higher education needs to be developed using an English for Academic Purposes (EAP) approach based on student needs. Instruction should be designed contextually, emphasizing academic skills, vocabulary mastery, and the use of interactive, student-centered learning methods. Thus, the development of EAP instruction is expected to optimally improve students’ English proficiency and support their academic success.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the urgency and strategies for developing Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) questions in Arabic language learning in the era of 21st-century skills. This research employs a qualitative approach using a library research method, with data sources derived from books, scholarly journal articles, and relevant academic documents. Data collection was conducted through documentation techniques, while data analysis used a descriptive-analytical method. The results indicate that the development of HOTS-based questions in Arabic language learning is highly urgent in addressing the demands of 21st-century skills, which include critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration. From the perspective of the revised Bloom’s taxonomy, HOTS is positioned at higher cognitive levels, namely analyzing (C4), evaluating (C5), and creating (C6), which encourage students to think more deeply and critically. The strategies for developing HOTS questions include analyzing basic competencies, constructing test blueprints, utilizing contextual stimuli, designing items based on higher-order cognitive levels, and developing scoring guidelines. The implementation of these strategies not only improves the quality of assessment but also contributes to the development of students’ 21st-century skills comprehensively. Therefore, the development of HOTS questions in Arabic language learning plays a strategic role in enhancing the quality of education and preparing students to face global challenges in the future.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the effectiveness of implementing digital administration through the Smart Hida (Cashless System) at the Alhidayah Kalisari Islamic Boarding School.  feature expansion, a qualitative method with a participatory case study approach. Data collection was carried out from April 16 to 24, 2026, through observation and in-depth interviews with the central treasurer and administrative members. The results showed that the digitalization of financial transactions had a significant positive impact. The cashless system effectively minimizes student indiscipline, as the absence of physical cash eliminates their motivation to buy snacks outside the boarding school without permission. For parents, this system provides transparency and daily control over their children's expenses, eliminating the need to physically visit the school to pay fees. From the management side, the manual administrative burden previously done in physical books is replaced by an automatic database and a top-up system. Furthermore, the integration of 30 internal merchants with a mutually agreed maintenance fee system creates a sustainable business ecosystem. However, this implementation faces challenges regarding users' digital literacy, so feature expansion needs to be done gradually.
