Abstract

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a significant healthcare-associated pathogen, capable of spreading through contaminated aerosols generated by medical equipment such as nebulizers. The increasing prevalence of MRSA infections, coupled with challenges in effective disinfection, highlights the urgency of identifying optimal disinfection methods. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of chlorhexidine in reducing MRSA contamination in nebulizer equipment, focusing on determining the optimal concentration for disinfecting nebulizers to minimize airborne transmission. This study employed an in vitro experimental design. The study population consisted of MRSA isolates obtained from clinical sputum specimens. The samples included nebulizer equipment inoculated with MRSA suspensions standardized to 10⁷ CFU/mL. Disinfection was carried out using chlorhexidine at concentrations of 2.5%, 4%, and 5%, each diluted in 70% alcohol. Control groups were rinsed with sterile saline and 70% alcohol. Post-disinfection, the nebulizer surfaces were swabbed and cultured on Mueller-Hinton agar to quantify colony-forming units (CFUs). Data were analyzed using paired t-tests and one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey’s post-hoc test, with a significance level set at p 0.05. The results show that chlorhexidine 2.5% reduced bacterial counts to an average of 1 CFU/plate, and 4% chlorhexidine reduced it to 49 CFU/plate. Chlorhexidine 5% resulted in an average of 1,430.6625 CFU/plate. Statistical analysis revealed significant reductions with 2.5% and 4% chlorhexidine compared to controls (p0.01), whereas 5% Chlorhexidine did not show a significant difference. These findings suggest that lower concentrations of chlorhexidine may be sufficient for effective disinfection in nebulizer equipment, addressing the risk of MRSA spread through airborne particles.

Abstract

Although attention to patient-centered services continues to increase, unfortunately, in-depth research on the standardization and adaptation of patient satisfaction measurement instruments in the context of healthcare facilities remains limited. Many studies have focused on general satisfaction levels but have lack depth in capturing dimensions such as emotional engagement, cultural expectations, and service delivery across diverse health systems. The purpose of this discussion is to determine appropriate methods for measuring patient service satisfaction in the health sector. Method: This study employed a systematic literature review approach to identify, analyze, and synthesize existing research related to methods for measuring patient service satisfaction in health services. The review process adhered to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) 2020 guidelines to ensure methodological transparency and rigor. The results: showed that tools such as the SERVQUAL, HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems), and PSQ-18 (Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire Short Form) often failed to capture culturally specific expectations and emotional dimensions of patient experience Conclusion: The importance of using appropriate methods to measure patient service satisfaction in the health sector lies in selecting tools that align with the context and objectives of the measuring the satisfaction includes SERVQUAL, HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems), and PSQ-18 (Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire Short Form).

Abstract

Promotional and preventive efforts are very important in combating non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including through the use of traditional medicines. Given the public's limited knowledge about the safe and effective use of natural ingredients, it is essential to raise awareness about the types, processing, and proper consumption of medicinal plants. Community health workers, as the frontline of primary health care, play a particularly important role in disseminating this information. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of applying an integrative empowerment model on the ability of community health workers to control NCDs with an herbal-based local wisdom approach. The research method used was a pre-experimental experiment with one group pretest-posttest design. Researchers applied an empowerment model with a meeting duration of 200 minutes. The sample of this study consisted of 57 community health workers in the Wagir community health center, using consecutive sampling techniques. Abstract

Hypertension is a medical condition experienced by a person which is described by an increase in blood pressure above normal values which can cause an increase in morbidity and mortality. Complementary medicine is considered more efficacious, one of which is Al-Qur'an murotal therapy and wet cupping therapy. This study aims to find out the effect of qur’anic recitation and wet cupping therapy on blood pressure in hypertensive patients. This study used a true experimental design with a pre-test and post-test randomized control group approach, involving two groups. The intervention group was given murotal therapy for 15 minutes and cupping for 30 minutes. The control group was only given cupping therapy. The sampling technique used was simple random sampling, and the data were analyzed using repeated measures ANOVA. The results of the between-group analysis in the intervention group showed a significant reduction in both systolic (p = 0.000) and diastolic (p = 0.000) blood pressure. These findings indicate that the combination of murottal Al-Qur'an therapy and wet cupping therapy is effective in lowering blood pressure in patients with hypertension.

Abstract

Health services for the elderly group need to be carried out according to their needs. To understand the health needs of the elderly group, it is necessary to examine the number of cases or prevalence of a case that is a problem for the elderly. Decreased physical functional activity in the elderly is a problem that is often encountered and due to degenerative diseases. Decreased physical functional activity in the elderly results in an increased risk of disability. There have been no reports regarding the number of cases of the elderly who experience decreased physical functional activity, the number of cases or prevalence of decreased physical functional activity in the elderly. The study used descriptive quantitative research method with a cross-sectional research design. The subjects of the study were elderly people aged 60-70 years who had no history of musculoskeletal injury/trauma and did not use walking aids. The research instrument used to measure the decline in functional activity was the Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly (PASE). The assessment results showed that 46 elderly people (76.7%) were in the category of low physical functional activity and 14 elderly people (23.3%) had good functional activity. The female elderly group consisted of 28 (75.7%) who had lower scores compared to male elderly. The 60-70 age group consisted of 30 elderly (78.9%) had a lower PASE score compared to the 71-80 age group. The housewife occupation group consisted of 22 elderly people (75.9%) had lower scores compared to the entrepreneur, laborer and retiree groups. The number of cases of decreased physical functional activity in the elderly is 46 individuals or 76.7%. The decline in physical functional activity was influenced by age, gender and occupation. To further explore the factors that influence the decline in physical functional activity.

Abstract

Malaria remains a significant health challenge in Indonesia, particularly in Mimika District, Central Papua, where high recurrence rates in toddlers are linked to poor adherence to antimalarial drug use. This study aimed to assess whether an educational intervention using the CBIA method could improve parents' knowledge, attitudes, and actions, thereby increasing drug adherence. This quasi-experimental, time-series study involved 62 parents of toddlers with tertian malaria at the Timika Health Center. Participants were divided into an intervention group (30 parents), which received CBIA-based education, and a control group (32 parents). Researchers collected data on parental knowledge, attitudes, and actions at five different time points (pre-education, immediately post-education, 14 days, 2 months, and 3 months post-education) using questionnaires. Drug adherence was measured at two time points (pre-education and 14 days post-education). Statistical analysis involved Wilcoxon and paired t-tests. The CBIA intervention significantly improved antimalarial drug adherence. Post-intervention, parental knowledge surged from 26.7% to 100%, attitudes improved from 3.3% to 73.3%, actions increased from 26.7% to 66.7%, and adherence rose from 46.67% to 73.33%. Statistical tests confirmed significant differences (p 0.01) in knowledge, attitudes, and actions before and after the intervention. The study concludes that the CBIA method is effective in enhancing parents' knowledge, attitudes, and actions, leading to better adherence to antimalarial drug use for toddlers at the Timika Health Center. This approach shows promise for broader implementation in community empowerment programs to boost the success of malaria therapy in children under five.
