Abstract

The immaturity of the gastrointestinal tract of preterm infants can increase the prevalence of feeding intolerance that must be addressed by nurses. Massage is considered effective and is often used in neonatal intensive care. This study aims to identify the effectiveness of complementary therapy in the form of abdominal massage as a nursing implementation strategy for premature infants with feeding intolerance in the NICU. The study method refers to the PRISMA 2020 checklist with the following keywords: "Feeding Intolerance" AND "Newborn" OR "Premature" AND "Abdominal massage" AND "Neonatal Intensive Care Unit" AND "Nursing". Article searches were conducted on Google Scholar, Springer Link, Scopus, and PubMed databases by applying several criteria including full-text articles relevant to the study objectives, written in Indonesian or English, published in the last 3 years, and using experimental study designs, then continued critical appraisal using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) instrument. Based on the search results, 74 articles were found and after screening only 5 articles were used. The results of the study showed that abdominal massage was considered to have a positive impact on reducing the residual volume of the stomach, vomiting behavior, and abdominal distension. Based on this, it is recommended that abdominal massage can be performed at least twice per day to control feeding intolerance in preterm infants in the neonatal intensive care unit.

Abstract

Hypertension, a non-communicable disease often called the "silent killer," affects 30.8% of Indonesians aged 18 and older, with 34% of those over 60 undiagnosed (2023 Indonesian Health Survey). The high prevalence among the elderly is frequently associated with inadequate self-care activities. This study aims to find the relationship between hypertension knowledge and self-care activities among the elderly with hypertension at a Public Health Center Depok III in Sleman. A descriptive-quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was used. 80 elderly with hypertension were selected using purposive sampling. Inclusion criteria were being over 60 years old, compos mentis, and able to communicate verbally; exclusion criteria included sudden illness or urgent commitments preventing questionnaire completion. Hypertension knowledge was measured with the Hypertension Knowledge Level Scale (HK-LS) instrument, and self-care activity was assessed using the Hypertension Self-Care Activity Level Effects (H-SCALE) instrument. The Gamma test showed a significant, positive, and very strong relationship between the knowledge level and self-care activity among the elderly with hypertension, with a p= 0.043 (r =0.875). The results indicated that there is a significant, positive, and very strong relationship between the knowledge level and self-care activity among the elderly with hypertension at a Public Health Center Depok III in Sleman. Based on the findings of this study, it is recommended that the health center improve its educational program, particularly concerning a low-salt diet, physical activity, and weight management.

Abstract

Heart failure accounts for 85% of deaths among cardiovascular disease patients. One of the primary complications in heart failure patients is an ineffective breathing pattern. Reducing mortality related to respiratory dysfunction requires fundamental interventions. One effective nursing intervention is patient positioning, which enhances lung expansion and alleviates shortness of breath. This study investigates the impact of the right lateral position on the respiratory status of heart failure (HF) patients at RSUD Dr. H. Moch Ansari Saleh. This study employed a quantitative, pre-experimental research design, specifically a one-group pretest-posttest approach. A total of 30 respondents were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data collection involved observation sheets based on the SLKI for ineffective breathing patterns and pulse oximetry measurements. Statistical analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon test, yielding a p-value of 0.000, indicating a significant improvement in respiratory status after the right lateral positioning intervention. These findings suggest that the right lateral position can be an effective nursing intervention to enhance respiratory function in HF patients. Therefore, it is recommended for implementation in the Kumala Room, Floor III, as a supportive measure to improve patient outcomes.

Abstract

Stunting remains a significant public health concern despite a decline in prevalence from 24.4% (2021) to 21.6% (2022), as reported by the Indonesian Nutrition Status Survey (SSGI). One strategy to address stunting is preventing anemia in adolescents. This study examines the effectiveness of a sweet potato leaf-based functional drink in preventing anemia among adolescents in the Nusaherang Health Center, Kuningan Regency, where sweet potato cultivation is abundant. A quasi-experimental pre-test and post-test control design was used, with stratified random sampling to select adolescents aged 10–19 years who met inclusion criteria. Hb levels were measured before and after the intervention. Results showed a median Hb level increase from 11 to 12, with a p-value 0.001, indicating a statistically significant improvement. These findings suggest that sweet potato leaf-based functional drinks are effective in preventing anemia, offering a cost-efficient and accessible intervention for adolescent health.

Abstract

Inappropriate use of triage can lead to negative impacts, one of which is the delay in diagnosis and appropriate treatment for pediatric patients who need immediate attention, which can increase the risk of complications and morbidity in pediatric patients. Pediatric-specific triage instruments are needed because there are significant differences in clinical conditions, disease responses, and treatment needs between pediatric and adult patients. Children have different physiological, anatomical, and psychological characteristics compared to adults. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the Pediatric Assessment Triangle for care in the emergency department. The method used in this study is to use a literature review approach. The literature review search was conducted on 6 databases namely PubMed, Science Direct, Google Scholar, Scopus, Web of Science Scopus, and Cinahl using the keyword “Pediatric Assessment Triangle”. Based on the search results, 924 articles were found and after filtering only 6 articles were used. The results showed that the Pediatric Assessment Triangle was effectively used to triage children in the emergency department. The conclusion of this study is that training or socialization about PAT is needed to increase knowledge and empower health workers involved in implementing the Pediatric Assessment Triangle (PAT).

Abstract

The incidence of breast cancer continues to rise and constitutes a significant global health issue, including in Indonesia. Early detection of breast cancer, although seemingly simple, is often neglected by women. This study aims to assess knowledge regarding breast cancer prevention and its correlation with the “CERDIK” behavior among adults. The research design is non-experimental with a cross-sectional approach. The population comprises all adults in the Tlogomas area, with a sample of 81 individuals selected through accidental sampling. The independent variable is knowledge of breast cancer prevention, while the dependent variable is the "CERDIK" behavior. The instrument used was a questionnaire, which had undergone validity and reliability testing by the researchers. Data analysis was performed using the Fisher exact test. The results indicate that nearly all respondents (86.2%) possess insufficient knowledge of breast cancer prevention; the majority (55.6%) exhibit moderate "CERDIK" behavior, and there is no significant correlation between knowledge of breast cancer prevention and the "CERDIK" behavior among adults in Tlogomas (p-value 0.511). It is recommended that future research conduct health promotion activities regarding breast cancer prevention and examine attitudes and determinant factors related to the "CERDIK" behavior.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the implementation of Continuity of Care (CoC) within the Midwifery Led Care (MLC) model in Malang Regency. The maternal and child health indicators remain a concern due to high maternal mortality rates, exacerbated by complications such as preeclampsia and hemorrhage. CoC has been recognized for its ability to improve maternal and neonatal health outcomes by providing consistent care through midwives. This qualitative research, using a phenomenological approach, involved in-depth interviews with 20 mothers (10 primipara, 10 multipara) who experienced MLC, supported by observations and secondary data. Results revealed that both primipara and multipara mothers valued continuous midwifery care, though their experiences varied based on parity. Primipara mothers generally required more information and support, while multipara mothers exhibited greater confidence in midwife-led care. Barriers such as limited access to health services in remote areas, a lack of trained midwives, and insufficient community education on the benefits of MLC were identified. Recommendations include enhancing midwife training, improving access to healthcare in rural regions, and increasing public awareness of CoC benefits. The findings emphasize the importance of expanding MLC and CoC models to reduce maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality in underserved areas.

Abstract

The overall prevalence of dry skin was found to be 60%. Decreased skin moisture levels can result from various factors, including cold weather, aging, and certain medical conditions. Dry skin is often accompanied by itching and discomfort. The application of moisturizers can improve dry skin and help maintain hydration. The objective of this study was to develop an aloe vera-shea butter lotion gel formulation to retain skin moisture. A descriptive observational design was employed to characterize the properties of the aloe vera-shea butter lotion gel formula. The study included 27 adult participants, all aged over 18 and without a history of allergies. The formulation contained aloe vera leaves, shea butter, vegetable glycerin, xanthan gum, Geogard 221, and rose essential oil. Skin moisture levels were measured using a skin moisture detector. The results showed that the lotion gel had a pH of 5, a homogeneous consistency, a spread ability of 6 cm, a white color, a characteristic aloe vera and rose scent, and a thick, smooth texture. An irritation test revealed that 96.3% of participants experienced no irritation. Additionally, the formulation significantly increased skin moisture, transitioning from dry to moisturized skin. The average percentage increase in skin moisture was 23.25% at 1 minute, 34.96% at 3 minutes, and 34.69% at 5 minutes after application. In conclusion, the aloe vera-shea butter lotion gel formulation effectively enhanced skin moisture levels. This formula can be used as an intervention to address dry skin or moisture depletion in future studies.
