Abstract

Pregnancy can result in changes in the pregnant woman, both physical and psychological cause complaints during pregnancy. At the end of pregnancy, one of the complaints felt by the mother is Symphysis Pubic Dysfunction (SPD). The aim of this research is to determine the effectiveness of health education using the demonstration method on knowledge and skills about chair pose on SPD problems for pregnant women. The research method used a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre-posttest design. The research sample was 60 second and third trimester pregnant women using purposive sampling. The independent variable in this research was health education with the demonstration method, while the dependent variable includes knowledge and skills about chair pose for overcoming SPD problems. Data collection used questionnaire and checklist sheets. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that there were significant differences in knowledge (43.75+20.17 vs. 78.75+14.74) and skills (43.33+20.71 vs. 80.00+15.28) regarding chair pose on SPD problems in third trimester pregnant women between pre-test and post-test (p0.05). Health education with an effectively demonstration method increased chair pose knowledge and skills in pregnant women's SPD problems. Abstract

As prospective professional nurses, nursing students need to take appropriate initial action (initial assessment) to avoid errors in practice. This pre-experimental study aimed to determine the effectiveness of an audio-visual initial assessment method in improving cognitive and psychomotor identification of trauma emergencies in nursing students. The research design used was pre-experimental with a pre-and post-test approach. The independent variable was the audio-visual learning method, while the dependent variables were cognitive and psychomotor initial assessment. The sample of this study comprised 6th semester students in the 2023/2024 academic year who took the Emergency Nursing course at University of Tribhuwana Tunggadewi. A total of 57 students who met the inclusion criteria were selected using simple random sampling. The instruments for measuring cognitive and psychomotor initial assessment were questionnaires and observation sheets. Interventions were implemented through learning activities utilizing the audio-visual method. Analysis was conducted using Wilcoxon test. The results showed that the average cognitive score before learning 56.49 which increased to 66.27 after learning the initial assessment of trauma emergency identification using audio-visual media. The average psychomotor score before learning was 59.64 which increased to 67.19 after the same learning intervention. These results indicated a significant increase in both cognitive and psychomotor scores (p 0.001). Learning using audiovisual media is recommended to improve initial emergency nursing skills. The greater the nurse's knowledge of initial assessment, the better the primary survey will be implemented, thereby reducing patient mortality and disability.

Abstract

Incompatible crossmatching indicates a serological incompatibility between donor and recipient blood, rendering the donor blood unsuitable for transfusion due to the potential risk of post-transfusion reactions. This study aims to present a case study of incompatible crossmatches in referred cases at the Blood Donor Unit of PMI Surabaya. A descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach was employed to explore two referred cases through detailed narrative analysis. Subject I was a referral case showing incompatibility in the major crossmatch, while Subject II showed incompatibility in the major, minor, and autocontrol tests, and also tested (positive) in the Direct Coombs Test (DCT). Further testing of Subject I at the Blood Donor Unit of PMI Surabaya showed that antibody screening (positive), antibody identification (anti-M), DCT (negative), antigen typing (M antigen: neg), major crossmatch (neg), and auto control (neg). Based on these results, the recommended transfusion for Subject I was crossmatch-compatible blood. For Subject II, the further test results were antibody screening (pos), antibody identification (non-specific antibody), DCT (pos), major crossmatch 1 and 2 (2+), and auto control (4+). The transfusion recommendation for Subject II was to use blood with a major crossmatch agglutination grade lower than that of the auto control. The different cases need different treatments. In future research, information about the history of diagnosis and transfusion history is needed to explore the background of the formation of irregular antibodies.

Abstract

Walking exercise is one of the simplest and most cost-effective therapeutic approaches that can improve insulin sensitivity and promote glucose utilization for patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM).  This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of walking exercise therapy in lowering random blood glucose levels among patients with T2DM. A quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach was used. The study involved 21 respondents with T2DM who were members of the Posbindu PTM in Gampong Lam Ujong Meunasah Manyang, Aceh Besar. The intervention consisted of walking exercise sessions lasting 30–45 minutes, performed three times per week for four consecutive weeks. Random blood glucose (RBG) levels were measured before and after the intervention using an Accu-Chek glucose meter. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test with a significance level of ? 0.05. The results showed a significant decrease in RBG levels from a mean of 351.19 mg/dL before the intervention to 254.71 mg/dL after the four-week exercise program (p = 0.000). These findings indicate that walking exercise therapy effectively reduces random blood glucose levels in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Therefore, nurses and community health practitioners are encouraged to incorporate walking exercise therapy into diabetes care and education programs as part of lifestyle modification strategies to achieve better glycemic control.

Abstract

Nausea and vomiting are common conditions during pregnancy that may compromise maternal nutrition, quality of life, and pregnancy outcomes. Pharmacological options are often limited due to concerns over fetal safety. Ginger (Zingiber officinale) has been proposed as a safe complementary therapy with potential antiemetic and circulatory benefits. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of ginger extract supplementation on nausea–vomiting frequency and blood pressure stability among pregnant women. A quasi-experimental study with a pre-test–post-test control group design was conducted on 40 pregnant women in their second trimester, divided into an intervention group (n=20) and a control group (n=20). The intervention group received 500 mg of standardized ginger extract once daily for 30 consecutive days, while the control group received standard antenatal care. The Pregnancy-Unique Quantification of Emesis (PUQE) questionnaire was used to assess nausea–vomiting frequency, and blood pressure (systolic and diastolic) was measured before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using paired t-tests and independent t-tests, with a significance level of p0.05. The intervention group experienced a significant reduction in mean PUQE scores from the moderate to the mild category (p0.001), while no significant change was observed in the control group. Post-intervention comparisons showed a statistically significant difference in nausea–vomiting frequency between the two groups (p0.001). Blood pressure analysis revealed that the intervention group maintained more stable systolic and diastolic values, with a modest but significant improvement compared to the control group (p0.05). Supplementation with 500 mg of ginger extract once daily for 30 days significantly reduced nausea and vomiting and contributed to blood pressure stability among pregnant women. Ginger may be considered a safe and effective complementary therapy in antenatal care.

Abstract

Urological surgery is a medical procedure in treating disorders of the urinary tract, reproductive organs, and other urogenital systems that have the most common risk of complications in the form of urinary incontinence. This systematic review aimed to assess the effectiveness of pelvic floor exercises are in reducing the occurrence of urinary incontinence among patients who have undergone urological surgery. Four databases, including Scopus, PubMed, ProQuest and Sciencedirect, were reviewed for relevant articles published from 2020 to 2025. The literature search was conducted using keywords such as "Pelvic-Floor-Exercises AND Urinary-Incontinence AND Post-Urology-Surgery". Guidelines from the Joanna Briggs Institute were used to assess the quality of journals reviewed. Articles were analyzed by extracting data in the form of country, type of study, sample, age, gender, intervention (type and duration), instrument, and outcome. Seven randomised controlled clinical trials (RCTs) involving 422 articles were included. All studies reported a significant decrease in urinary incontinence after Kegel exercises (p 0.05). Research indicates that engaging in pelvic floor exercises can enhance the strength of pelvic floor muscles, leading to better bladder control and a decrease in the occurrence of urinary incontinence. Pelvic Floor Exercises can be part of a urological post-operative recovery program that supports the patient's overall recovery and quality of life. Nurses can teach and motivate patients to perform pelvic floor exercises according to the patient's progress and condition. The results lay a strong groundwork for application in clinical settings, and further studies are necessary to establish a standardized protocol and investigate its long-term effects.

Abstract

First-year students encounter academic, social, and emotional challenges that can impede their adjustment capacity. Inadequate adaptation frequently precipitates academic procrastination, which detrimentally affects academic achievement. Effective adjustment plays a significant role in mitigating task delay tendencies. This study examined the relationship between self-adjustment and academic procrastination among first-year Bachelor of Nursing students at Universitas Jember. This study employed a cross-sectional correlational design. A total of 168 first-year students were selected via total population sampling. Data were collected from April to May 2025 using the Student Adaptation to College Questionnaire to measure self-adjustment and the Procrastination Assessment Scale-Students to measure academic procrastination. Data were analyzed using Spearman-rank Correlation test with a significance level of ? = 0,05. Findings indicated that 72,6% of respondents exhibited a moderate level of self-adjustment, while 70,2% demonstrated moderate academic procrastination. Correlation analysis indicated a statistically significant result p-value of 0,000 (p 0,05). A correlation coefficient (r) of -0,503 indicated a moderate-strength and negative relationship. The results of the study showed a moderately significant relationship between the two variables of self-adjustment and academic procrastination with a negative correlation, meaning that the higher of self-adjustment, the lower of academic procrastination. Students with effective self-adjustment abilities tend to complete tasks more efficiently, thereby reducing their tendency to procrastinate. Self-adjustment is not the only factor influencing academic procrastination, other related factors also contribute to the persistence of procrastination behavior during the developmental stage of first-year students. Other variables and factors that influence academic procrastination in new students can be examined for further research
