Abstract

Zahwa, D.N.A., Lakitan, B., Muda, S.A., Ria, R.P., & Ramadhani, F.  (2023). Red romaine lettuce growth on different shading intensities and organic mulching with watering intensities. In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-11 Tahun 2023, Palembang  21 Oktober 2023. (pp. 135-144).  Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).Red romaine lettuce (Lactuca sativa L. var. longifolia) is a lettuce variety containing antioxidant, vitamin, and fiber contents that are beneficial in meeting dietary fiber requirements. This vegetable has the potential to be cultivated in suboptimal areas, including urban land. This study was aimed at identifying the impact of several shade intensities and organic mulch with watering intensities on romaine lettuce growth at early vegetative stages. The research followed a split plot design consisting of 2 treatments, namely shade intensity as the main plot (45% shade, 55% shade, and 80% shade) and organic mulch with watering intensities as subplots (without mulch with no intensive watering, organic mulch with no intensive watering, and organic mulch with intensive watering) and repeated 3 times. The results showed that shaded red romaine lettuce (45% shade, 55% shade, and 80% shade) increased growth at early vegetative growth. However, it was not statistically significant. Meanwhile, the application of organic mulch through intensive watering tends to increase shoot and root growth. Differences in shoot and root growth as a result of the treatments applied can also be shown through their visual appearance. Shade and mulch treatments by intensive watering were confirmed to be able to control the microclimate represented through media moisture. The 80% shading and the organic mulch with intensive watering were able to increase media moisture. In conclusion, 80% shading and organic mulch with watering improved red romaine lettuce growth at the early vegetative stage, although recovery to a lower shade is necessary to avoid inhibited root and shoot growth.

Spodoptera frugiperda attack level on corn plants in Batu Belang Dua Village, Muaradua Distric. In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-11 Tahun 2023, Palembang 21 Oktober 2023.  (pp. 275–284). Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).Corn (Zea mays L) is one of the food crops and the main source of income for Indonesian people, especially in South Sumatra, however, people's income has decreased due to a significant Spodoptera frugiperda attack. This research aimed to determine the percentage intensity of Spodoptera frugiperda pest attacks in Batu Belang Dua village. The research method used in this research is the survey method through direct observation in the field. The data collected is primary data in the form of direct observation of symptoms in the field and secondary data obtained from farmer interviews. The results obtained from five corn farmers were of productive age, the farmers ranged in age from 30 years to 50 years with a land area of 1 ha. The highest Spodoptera frugiperda L. attack was on land 3 owned by Mr. Ahyar with an average of 16.43% and the lowest was on land 2 owned by Kartini with an average of 9.92%. So, the intensity of Spodoptera frugiperda attacks in Batu Belang Dua village showed that the highest attack was on land 3 belonging to Mr. Ahyar with an average of 16.43%, while the lowest attack was on land 2 belonging to Mrs. Kartini with an average of 9.92%. Therefore, farmers in Batu Belang Dua village must pay attention to the level of Spodoptera frugiperda pest attacking corn crops so that they do not experience very high economic losses.

Abstract

Zahra, A., Hayyan, M. A., Akifurahman, S., & Naufal, R. (2023). Analysis of climate change factors on the number of yields in vegetable crops in Enrekang Regency, South Sulawesi. In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-11 Tahun 2023, Palembang  21 Oktober 2023. (pp. 558-563).  Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).The impact of climate change on vegetable crop production in Enrekang District, South Sulawesi, has become a global concern. This study aims to identify the influence of climate variability (rainfall, air temperature, and wind direction) on the production of vegetables such as mustard, tomatoes, carrots, and chickpeas. Horticultural production data is obtained from the Agriculture Office of Enrekang Regency and South Sulawesi, while weather condition data is taken from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency. This data was then analyzed using regression and correlation methods using SPSS statistical software. The results showed a significant effect of climate variability on tomato and chickpea production, while mustard greens and carrots tended to be unaffected. This is indicated by a significance value (p-value) greater than 0.05. The significance values for rainfall to the production of the three crops were 0.784, 0.813, and 0.042, respectively, while for air temperature were 0.724, 0.383, and 0.098. The findings emphasize the need for agricultural adaptation and the development of climate-resistant varieties. The research provides important insights into the impact of climate change on vegetable crop production in the region.

Abstract

Nurhayati, N., Swastika, S., Fahroji, F., Yuliani, N., Widyanto, H., Ritonga, E., Jubaedah, J., & Lbs, A. (2023). Peatland amelioration and productivity performance of various new superior varieties of corn (Zea mays L.). In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-11 Tahun 2023, Palembang  21 Oktober 2023. (pp. 54-64).  Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).Peatlands are organic soils that have varied characteristics and generally have low fertility. Corn plants growing on peat often experience problems in terms of nutrient availability. This research aimed to determine the productivity performance of several New Superior Varieties (NSV) of corn on peatlands treated with ameliorant. The research method used Factorial Randomized Block Design with 2 factors and 3 replications. The first factor is the corn variety and the second factor is the type of ameliorant. The ameliorant used was sourced from agricultural waste, namely empty palm fruit bunch compost, chicken manure compost and rice husk biochar. Observations made included peatland characteristics, plant growth, corn production, and farming business analysis. The thickness of the peat ranges from 40-60 cm, classified as shallow peat with sapric peat maturity level. The results of the study showed that there was no interaction between the provision of ameliorant and corn plant varieties on the vegetative growth of corn plants. The highest cob length was obtained for Nasa 29 and Bima 20 Uri varieties. The hybrid corn varieties Nasa 29, Bima 2, and Bima 20 Uri were able to adapt and produce on peatlands, respectively 2.8 t/ha; 3.2 t/ha, and 3.3 t/ha. NSV of corn technology and peatland amelioration can increase farmers' income.

Kencana, C., Sinaga, C.E., Timoria, A., Dianda, A., Wijaya, I., Pasaribu, S.A.,& Yonarta, D. (2023). Pemeliharaan Benih Ikan Tambakan (Helostoma temminckii) dengan Padat Tebar Berbeda di Indralaya. In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-11 Tahun 2023, Palembang  21 Oktober 2023. (pp. 223-229). Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).Kissing gourami (Helostoma temminckii) is a type of freshwater fish whose natural habitat is in tropical climates, specifically Southeast Asia. This research aimed to investigate the effect of stocking density on the growth and survival of Kissing gourami (H. temminckii) in Indralaya. Parameters observed during research included absolute length, absolute weight, feed efficiency, survival and water quality. The results showed that the growth in length, weight, feed efficiency and survival rate of tambakan fish (H. temminckii) in the PA treatment with a stocking density of 40 fish (2 L-1) got the best value, namely with an absolute length of 2.7 cm, weight absolute 1.15 g, feed efficiency 16.83%, and survival 85%. Water quality parameters are within the acceptable range, temperature 25.4-31.3°C, pH 6.77-8.20, dissolved oxygen 2.3-3.3 mg L-1, ammonia 0.018-0.031 mg L-1. Stocking density significantly influences the growth and survival of Kissing gourami. Low density (PA) produces better growth and higher feed efficiency than high density (PB). This research provides insight into optimizing stocking density in pond fish cultivation to increase growth and survival.

Abstract

Bintang, G. P., Herlin, W., Pakpahan, T., Zelianty, S. O., Arka, K., Aryanti, R.M., Indah, M., Jesika, J. (2024). Effectiveness of betel leaves (Piper betle) as a vegetable pesticide to suppress pests insect populations on cayenne pepper (Capsicum frutescens L.). In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-12 Tahun 2024, Palembang 21 Oktober 2024. (pp. 90–102). Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).Cayenne pepper (Capsicum fructuscens L.) has a very high potential for cultivation, but the problem of cayenne pepper cultivation is never free from pest disease, so ethane used chemical pesticides because it is considered more effective and efficient. The purpose of this study was to find out the effectiveness of betel leaf weeds as botanical pesticides to suppressed pests in cayenne pepper. The methods used in this study are Group Randomization Design (GRD) with each group consisting of five treatments, namely P1 (control), P2 (50 gr/l), P3 (100 gr/l), P4 (150 gr/l), P5 (200 gr/) and six tests with a total of 30 cayenne pepper. The results of the studied on P5 (200 gr/l) had the highest insect diversity of 1.94, while P1 (control) had the lowest insect diversity of 1,10. The insect diversity found in the study based on observations from 1 to 80 Days After Planting consisted of 11 species covering several orders such as Lepidoptera, Diptera, Coleoptera, Aranae, Hemiptera, and Hymenoptera. The conclusion of this study is that the higher the dose of betel leaf pesticide used, the lower the attack of insect pests with species of aphids (Aphis gossypii), mealybugs (Pseudococcus sp.), flies (Sarcophaga sp.), caterpillars (Syrphidae sp. larvae), spiders (Araneus sp., Neoscona sp., Paidiscura sp., Oxyopes sp.), ants (Tapinoma sp.), ladybugs (Coccinellidae sp. pupa), and butterflies (Agraulis sp. larvae) on cayenne pepper. Thus, the use of botanical pesticides must be used with the appropriate dose in order to suppress the development of insect pest populations on cayenne pepper.
