Abstract

Banyuwangi has various cultural and traditional activities as well as art. One of them is the seblang tradition which is only practiced by the Osing community in Banyuwangi, that is, Bakungan Village and Olehsari Village in Glagah District, Banyuwangi Regency. This research was a qualitative research with a phenomenological approach with 15 informants consisting of community leaders, government, members of community. The results of this study indicated that belief in implementing customs generated the behavior from the results of self-perception which are supported by social perceptions aimed at cleaning the village and rejecting reinforcements. The community's belief in the Seblang tradition is still ingrained and carried out well so that it forms community behavior if it is not carried out, disaster will take place. In the self-perception of the Bakungan and Olesari community, the assumption is that the community members do not celebrate it, they will be ostracized by other communities. However, in its development, the role of government is in hegemony of the community so that custom continue to develop into one of the contestation of customs and tourism.

Abstract

The discussion of the implementation process of social empowerment, which is based on religious belief and critical analysis of social problems, is an interesting discourse. Various faith-based organizations, including pesantren in Indonesia, attempt to contribute to social empowerment to contextualize religious teachings within social life. This research used the qualitative method to describe and analyze the empowerment process, the obstacles during the process, and how religious values and critical analysis affect the empowerment process within pesantren and community. This study resulted in three main points. First, it showed that the stages of empowerment begin with raising critical awareness, analyzing social problems, identifying resources, and building community-based social institutions. Second, it also identified the main principle of empowerment, i.e., democratic, participatory, and community-need-based empowerment programs. Third, it indicated that community participation plays a role as the subject and pesantren as a facilitator of social empowerment.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berkaitan dengan nilai-nilai pendidikan Islam dalam ritual maddoja bine pada komunitas petani Bugis di Sulawesi Selatan. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian lapangan Sumber data dari informan melalui observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa maddoja bine adalah ritual leluhur yang dipegang teguh oleh masyarakat Bugis yang berprofesi petani.  Maddoja bine secara sederhana dapat dipahami sebagai sebuah aktivitas menjaga bibit padi semalam suntuk sebagai bentuk penghormatan dan kasih sayang pada bibit padi yang esok hari akan ditebar di persemaian. Inti ritual ini adalah do’a berupa permohonan kepada Tuhan Yang Maha Esa agar bibit padi tersebut selamat sejak ditebar dipersemaian hingga di panen. Hal menarik dalam ritual ini adalah dituturkannya sureq I Lagaligo dalam epos Meong Mpalo Karellae di dalam kisah tersebut sarat dengan nilai kebaikan yang sejalan dengan nilai-nilai pendidikan Islam. Nilai-nilai pendidikan Islam dalam ritual maddoja bine mencakup nilai aqidah, nilai ibadah dan nilai akhlak. Nilai akhlak lebih menonjol dibanding nilai lainnya. Seperti; adanya persatuan, silaturrahim, gotong-royong, kepedulian kepada sesama dan kepedulian terhadap lingkungan hidup sebagai tertulis dalam kisah Miong Mpalo Karellae yang dituturkan oleh passure’ berbunyi: Nonnokko matu talao sappa pangampe madeceng bara engka talolongeng situju-tuju nawanawanna, Ininnawa mapatae, sabbara mappesonae, masempo toi dalle’na makkunrai namamase, temasookka ukka timu, orowane mapata, misseng duppai bisesa, paenre sangiang seri, teppogau gau ceko. Dalam kisah tersebut ada 8 nilai yang harus dimiliki yakni; sederhana, pemurah, sabar, tawakkal, penyayang, sopan berbicara, menghormati tamu, memuliakan padi, dan jujur.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the religious moderation oriented on local wisdom in the local community, the function of local wisdom in establishing a religious moderation climate, and local wisdom development strategies that contain elements of religious moderation that can be implemented in the policy. This study used descriptive research to explore the local wisdom in the developing community which interrelated with religious moderation. The study was conducted in Tana Toraja Regency, South Sulawesi Province. The data were collected through in-depth interviews with informants, document study, and field observations. The data collected then analyzed in the writing stage and were analyzed when being reduced, then were presented in the form of a description. The results of this study indicated as follows: (1) the religious moderation oriented local wisdom contained in the local community are Aluk Tondolo and the Tongkonan traditional house as parts of the culture and local wisdom of Tana Toraja, (2) The Tongkonan traditional house is a symbol of harmony and kinship which contains some local wisdom, including the Rambu Solo, Rambu Tuka and Karapasan ceremonies, in which the Karapasan Culture is believed by its adherents or the Toraja tribe to be a path towards peace, (3) The moderation of life with ambiance of harmony between religious communities has gone very well since the Toraja people know harmonious life between 2 (two) or more different religions.

Abstract

This study used a qualitative descriptive method with research problems: How do Madrasah Aliyah students practice religious discourse from online media in their daily lives?, and how do teachers respond and align the religious understanding of Madrasah Aliyah students who interact with the religious discourse from online media?. The research location was in Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi. The informants were 25 students at MAN 1 Kendari and MAS Ummushabri. The research results found that Madrasah Aliyah students are quite active in accessing religious preaching content using online social media platforms. The online media that is most accessed and used for religious content are Instagram and YouTube in the form of audio-visual videos. The rest are interested in reading status and articles considered to be in line with their understanding. Some of the students follow several popular preachers who are actively spreading religious content on social media. Influenced by online media, some students questioned and challenged the basis of the country, religious traditions, and local traditions addressed to their teachers, families, and relatives. In daily behavior, there is a positive side. Students are more diligent in worshiping and assembling in the Mosque. Madrasah and teachers have issued several protective policies to protect students from easily exposed to radical ideology. The responses and policies include limiting the use of cellphones in schools, intensive religious guidance provided by the teacher, protecting outside groups from entering and providing religious guidance to students, and enrich learning material with religious moderation content on a limited scale.

Abstract

Konsep Islam moderat merupakan suatu cara pandang keagamaan yang sangat relevan dalam konteks keberagaman yang ada di Indonesia dalam segala dimensi, baik dimensi agama, adat istiadat, suku, ras, dan apa saja yang ada di dalam bangsa itu sendiri. Penelitian ini tergolong jenis penelitian kualitatif deskriptif dengan menggunakan pendekatan multidisipliner. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah wawancara, observasi, dokumentasi, serta penelusuran referensi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi moderasi keberagamaan mahasiswa Universitas Tadulako dan IAIN Palu, perbedaan dan persamaan moderasi keberagamaan mahasiswa Universitas Tadulako dan IAIN Palu dan konten penyimpangan keberagamaan mahasiswa Universitas Tadulako dan IAIN Palu serta sinergitas pembinaan moderasi keberagamaan mahasiswa Universitas Tadulako dan IAIN Palu. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa, 1) moderasi keberagamaan di dua institusi ini sudah berjalan dengan baik berbarengan dengan fenomena kajian Islam fundamentalis-skriptualis yang menjurus radikalis berkembang. 2) perbedaan moderasi keberagamaan terlihat dari mahasiswa Untad  yang cenderung bersikap eksklusif dalam memahami polaritas keberagamaan karena akses mereka lebih banyak diwarnai oleh kajian yang bersifat fundamentalis-skriptualis. Sedangkan mahasiswa IAIN Palu lebih cenderung inklusif karena kajian mereka lebih banyak bersifat kontekstual-transformatif. 3) konten penyimpangan keberagamaan mahasiswa pada dua lembaga tersebut terlihat pada bahwa Islam adalah ideologi negara yang paling mampu membawa kemaslahatan bagi Indonesia.

Abstract

Keteladanan dalam mendirikan komunitas yang memiliki identitas budaya khusus, seperti Jawa Tondano adalah hal yang tidak mudah. Diperlukan kemampuan manajerial mumpuni. Apalagi sebelumnya di daerah tersebut terdapat masyarakat lokal yang memiliki identitas berbeda. Dalam komunitas Jawa-Tondano, identitas dibangun di atas landasan agama Islam dan budaya Jawa.  Adapun  unsur pendukungnya terdiri dari masyarakat pejuang yang diasingkan dari Perang Jawa dan pemukim setempat. Tokoh kunci dari pendiri Jawa Tondano adalah Kiai Mojo. Subyek penelitian adalah berada pada masyarakat Kampung Jawa-Tondano, Minahasa, Sulawesi Utara, terutama warisan manajemen budaya Kiai Mojo yang tetap dirasakan hingga kini. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mendeskripsikan langkah-langkah manajemen budaya yang diinisiasi oleh Kiai Mojo, serta respons masyarakat Minahasa pada saat kampung Jawa Tondano dibangun. Tulisan ini bertumpu pada konsep kecerdasan budaya dari Brooks Peterson yang merumuskan kecerdasan budaya sebagai kemampuan untuk terlibat dalam serangkaian perilaku yang menggunakan keunggulan interpersonal dalam berinteraksi. Dalam konteks ini, teori kepemimpinan kesatria dari Summet Kumar ditambahkan untuk menginterpretasi sosok Kiai Mojo. Hasil penelitian menjelaskan bahwa pendirian Kampung Jawa-Tondano terwujud karena kemampuan Kiai Mojo menerapkan manajemen budaya yang bercirikan kemampuan toleransi tanpa mengesampingkan sikap kesatria dalam mempertahankan identitas dan prinsip agama. Hal mana yang juga secara simultan ditunjukkan masyarakat Minahasa pada waktu itu.

Abstract

This article aims to discuss dynamics of the Sunni and Shia relations in Manado. The data were collected from interviews, observation, and documentation. This study shows that the Sunni and Shia Muslim relations in Manado lived in harmony at the grassroots level. They lived next door, visited, and also helped each other in various matters. However, the relations between Sunni and Shia had been in tension due to anti-Shia campaigns by local Sunni elites and Salafi-Wahabi groups in the public sphere that took advantage of the momentum of the Sunni-Shia conflicts in the country and also the Middle East. They also took advantage of the particular political events deemed to benefit the Shia’s existence. Although the Shia groups had become the target of hatred, it did not result in physical violence. The abuse that occurred on the Shia was of verbal and symbolic. This study concludes that the minority status does not always lead to a harmonious relationship within its own internal group.

Abstract

This study aims to: (1) Describe the level of memory ability of biological Latin names of human motion system material in students who listened to murattal audio, (2) Determine the level of memory ability of biological Latin names of human motion system material of students who did not listen to murattal audio, (3). Analyze the influence of murattal audio on the memory of biological Latin names in the human motion system material. This research was quasi-experimental with a non-equivalent control group design. This study involved 58 of 70 students consisting of 29 students in a control class and 29 students in an experimental class. They were selected by the purposive sampling technique. The research instrument was a learning outcome test. The data were analyzed through descriptive statistical analysis and inferential analysis which were preceded by prerequisite tests and then carried out by an independent sample t-test. The results showed that the memory ability of biological Latin names in the experimental class is higher than in the control class. Furthermore, the experimental class is in the high category, while the control class is in the medium category. Thus, it proves that the murattal audio of Al-Qur'an can improve students’ memory of biological Latin names. Research implications are also presented in this study.

Abstract

Although the Constitution has guaranteed the construction of places of worship in several areas, especially in the context of majority-minorities, it still faces many obstacles. The government issued PBM regulations No. 9 and 8 of 2006 to solve the problem of building houses of worship administratively, but often, in the conflict cases over the construction of places of worship, it does not provide the expected solution. This study tries to look at local wisdom as an alternative capital for best practice in constructing houses of worship in Kendari City. By taking the construction of the Anduonohu Stasi of Catholic Church as a case, the researchers found that the construction of the Anduonohu Stasi of Catholic Church proceeded peacefully. The church could fulfill the administrative requirements according to applicable regulations, without rejection from residents who were predominantly Muslim. In the construction of the church, although it is not explicitly said to be based on local wisdom, the construction of the Anduonohu Stasi of Catholic Church is supported by values/sense of responsibility, mutual respect, and love, as well as a willingness to sacrifice as shown by the residents around the church and other parties, and the church itself. The community around the church did not participate in providing financial or labor assistance. However, their willingness to accept a different place of worship in their environment by not making efforts to reject it. Meanwhile, from the government side, participation takes the form of granting permits, recommendations, and distributing aid. The limited-time in data collection requires further exploration regarding the best practice for the church's construction and the local wisdom of the residents around the environment.
