Abstract

  This study aims to describe the usefulness of the sound in the humor stickers used on WA social media. This research focuses on sound utilization techniques used in humor stickers in WA to produce humor and sound utilization techniques that are often used by humor sticker writers. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a semantic approach. The data source used was stickers in the WA group of UIN students collected from January-February 2021 using the listening and note-taking technique according to the concept (Mahsun, 2014). Technique of changing sound in humor uses theory (Wijana, 2003). The results showed that of the 100 humor stickers in the WA group, UIN students used various sound utilization techniques. There are five techniques used in WA stickers, namely substitution, impregnation, addition, permutation, and lengthening techniques. The most widely used substitution techniques are 35% consonant substitution, 25% vowel substitution, 24% impingement, 10% addition, 4% permutation, and 2% elongation. The technique of using sound in humorous stickers in WA that is used is dominated by nouns that turn into adjectives, there are other variations but not as many as nouns that are converted into adjectives. In addition, the use of words is widely used rather than phrases and sentences in humorous stickers in WA. General themed stickers do not show the theme of young people who are disappointed, hurt, bullied, or single even though the stickers are taken from the student WA group. Keywords: sound utilization, stickers, humor AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan permanfaatn bunyi dalam stiker humor yang digunakan di media sosial WA. Penilitian ini berfokus pada teknik-teknik pemanfaatan bunyi yang digunakan dalam stiker humor di WA untuk menghasilkan humor dan teknik pemanfaatan bunyi yang sering digunakan oleh penulis stiker humor. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan semantik. Sumber data yang digunakan adalah stiker di grup WA mahasiswa UIN yang dikumpulkan dari Januari—Februari 2021dengan menggunakan teknik simak dan catat sesuai dengan konsep (Mahsun, 2014). Teknik perubahan bunyi dalam humor menggunakan teori (Wijana, 2003). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dari 100 stiker humor yang terdapat di grup WA mahasiswa UIN menggunakan teknik pemanfaatan bunyi yang bervariasi. Ada lima teknik yang digunakan dalam stiker WA, yaitu teknik substitusi, pelesapan, penambahan, permutasi, dan pemanjangan. Teknik substitusi yang paling banyak digunakan adalah substitusi konsonan 35%, substitusi vokal 25%, pelesapan 24%, penambahan 10%, permutasi 4%, dan pemanjangan 2%. Teknik pemanfaatan bunyi dalam stiker humor di WA yang digunakan didominasi nomina yang berubah menjadi adjektiva, ada variasi lain tetapi tidak sebanyak nomina yang diubah menjadi adjektiva. Selain itu, Pemanfaatan kata banyak digunakan daripada frasa dan kalimat dalam stiker humor di WA. Stiker bertema umum tidak menunjukkan tema anak muda yang sedang kecewa, sakit hati, dirisak, atau sedang jomlo meskipun stiker diambil dari grup WA mahasiswa

Abstract

Children can experience a disorder in their communication which is called speech delay. Speech delay is a condition when a child has difficulty in expressing his feelings or desires to other people. This difficulty is shown in inability to communicate or speak clearly. This article discusses the case of a child named ZH who experienced speech delays reaching the age of five year old. This is a case study research with qualitative approach. The data were collected by recording and writing, and then were analyzed by data reduction technique.  The authors drew final conclusions based on the data obtained and supported by theoretical studies. The results showed that parental communication patterns greatly influence language development in children. In this case, the communication pattern of parents towards ZH refers to the Tan-Soederbergh and Xavier Tan methods. This has resulted in many significant advances for language development in ZH. At the age of five, ZH has started to use vocabulary a lot to ask questions and explain things.

Abstract

Language vitality study is a study conducted to measure the vitality of a language. According to Harimansyah (2020), the vitality of a language refers to the intensity of using, existence, and language inheritance as a means of communication in various social contexts. Sundanese is one of the languages that has been identified in the Language and Language Map in Indonesia (2019) and has a large number of speakers. However, this does not mean that Sundanese is safe. Kuningan Regency was chosen as the research location because the population speaks Sundanese and is located close to Central Java. Therefore, it is necessary to study whether Sundanese is still spoken by the people of Kuningan Regency, is Sundanese in Kuningan Regency included in the group of languages that have experienced decline, and should Sundanese language in Kuningan Regency be conserved or revitalized? In order to reveal these problems, the data obtained through questionnaires were analyzed using quantitative methods. The results showed that the proportion of people in Kuningan Regency who still spoke Sundanese was 82%, Sundanese in Kuningan Regency was not included in the language group that was eroding, but included the language vitality that was stable but threatened, and Sundanese in the language. Kuningan Regency does not have to be conserved or revitalized because it is still considered stable but threatened.

Abstract

The Javanese people of Fajar Agung Plantation (JPFAP) are workers who are very familiar with the lexicons of weeds. It can be seen from their sustainability until today as the way of preventing it from extinction. This writing aims to describe the level of the Javanese’ understanding of the lexicon of weeds in Fajar Agung Plantation and to explain the influencing factors using a qualitative approach which is supported by the quantitative calculation of the respondents. The data of the lexicon were obtained through a questionnaire which was listed through an interview with the key informants. The results shows that the list consists of 75 lexicons. Based on the first discussion, the level of understanding T (Tahu) for age group I (25—45 years) is 83.53% and age group II (46—60 years) is 83.15%. It means that the Javanese people in Fajar Agung Plantation still recognize and the lexicons in Javanese. Based on the second discussion, there are two factors affecting their level of understanding, namely linguistics and nonlinguistics factors. The linguistic factors is their  tendency towards Javanese language. The nonlinguistic factors are their conservative behavior towards weeds, the physiological adaptation of weeds to herbicides, the consistency in the use of traditional weed control and eradication tools, the JPFAP welfare, the JPFAP  education.

Abstract

There is a huge concern among educators about students who are less interested in reading. They are more serious about those who feel bored with reading. It will cause them to feel overwhelmed when given a book or text when asked to analyze or summarize what they have read and cause them to be lazy to read caused by the difficulty to carry books anywhere. Many researchers have tried to find out the reasons behind students' boredom in reading. In an academic context, reading is considered the most important language skill. Through reading, students learn new information. "Book is a window to the world." This expression describes the benefits of reading, which is to open, broaden insight and knowledge. This study was aimed at: (1) How is the implementation of mobile-assisted extensive reading in senior high school? And (2) How is the students’ perception toward the implementation of mobile-assisted extensive reading? This research is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data collection is carried through observation, documentation, questionnaires, and interviews. The research participants were 13 students of class X social sciences at MA Al-Husna. The result shows that: (1) the result of the implementation of mobile-assisted extensive reading lessons in Senior High School is implementing fun reading activities so that students did not feel bored and reading interest was the main objective. (2) The result of students' perceptions regarding the implementation of mobile-assisted extensive reading lessons in Senior High School showed that students feel happy to do reading using the Extensive Reading technique, and they feel more interested in reading because they are motivated. This research makes it easier for students to do reading anywhere and anytime using (Smartphone).

Abstract

his article discusses the van dijk’s analysis on daring news lobster seed export corruption cases. The aim of this study is to analyze, and describe how the text structures, social cognition and social context as the elements of van Dijk’s analysis in analyzing daring news. This study using a qualitative descriptive research method, the type of research is library research. Then this study is a qualitative approach and critical discourse analysis approach is Teun A. van Dijk model. The subjects of this study were daring news namely Tempo.co, Tirto.id and BBC News, which were published November 26 to 30-2020 according to the incident. The results showed that from the three news reports meet the level of discourse analysis using van Dijk model, namely text structure (macro structure, superstructure, and micro structure), after that the element of social cognition and social context of the corruption case became one of the bed social phenomena, because it does not reflect a good personal example.

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze and describe the message behind Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, using semiotics theory by Roland Barthes. Based on the theory, the denotative meaning from Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is that the show, in terms of function and purposes, is a mere fashion parade or clothing exhibition, while the connotative meaning of the show is that  Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is a spectacle which conveys message that the brand practically idealizes the models. The idealization are seen from the way models are met with the requirements of body shape standards, how they are pictured as the models for other models in reaching successful career, and how they are supposed to present perfection to the spectators. This concept of idealization, in the perspective of semiotics, is a myth constructed by the show which lies within the culture of the global society.

Abstract

The study aimed to investigate: (1) the existence of glottal stop consonants [?], voiced palatal or semivowel consonant [y] and bilabial semivowel consonant [w] in the polymorphemic words with vowel endings of bound morphemes [-an], and (2) the non-existence of glottal stop consonants [?], voiced palatal or semivowel consonant [y] and bilabial semivowel consonant [w] in the polymorphemic words with vowel endings of bound morphemes [-an]. The data were collected from selected participants who represented and met the qualification as native Indonesian speakers. To gather the data, the study used recording and observation techniques which were analyzed speech analyzer Praat by implementing (a) acoustic approach, i.e., analysing the segmentals by using Praat, and (b) inductive method in which it compared the interpretative results of the researchers and the segmental acoustic from Praat. The results showed that (a) the glottal stop consonant [?], voiced palatal or semivowel consonant [y] and bilabial semivowel consonant [w] were identified in the polymorphemic words with vowel endings of bound morphemes [-an] and (b) in the polymorphemic words with vowel endings of bound morphemes [-an] have phoneme-loss of the glottal stop consonant [?], voiced palatal or semivowel consonant [y] and bilabial semivowel consonant [w] in comparison its derivative sounds of the words with any free morphemes and bound morphemes [-an]

Abstract

This research examines about matters and language choice, the preservation pattern and strategy of Sundanese language, and the determinants that influence of Sundanese language preservation. in Binong District, Subang Regency. This research was conducted by considering two approaches, those were theoretical approach and methodological approach. Theoretically, the approach used in this research is a sociolinguistic approach. Methodologically, this research used a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods. The data sources extracted in this study consisted of main data in the form of respondents’ answers to the questionnaire, respondents’ answer during the interview, and notes during observation; as well as additional or secondary data sources, in the form of supporting documents such as the informant’s age, educational background, and environment. Data were obtained from respondents with certain age criteria (children, adolescence, adults, and the elderly) according to a questionnaire designed to support the study towards the identified problems. The data used in this study comes from the use of Sundanese in the communities of Nangerang Village, Cicadas, Karangsari, and Binong Village. A total of 160 respondents spread across four villages (Nangerang Village, Cicadas, Karangsari, and Binong Village) were used as research samples.The results showed that: (1) The attitudes and language choices of the Nangerang Village, Cicadas, Karangsari, and Binong Village people were based on four age groups, those are: children 6-12 years, adolescence 13-21, adults 22-35, and the elderly 36-70 years, in general, from all respondents, most of them still use Sundanese as their main language in communication; (2) the pattern and strategy of the Sundanese language preservation on the eight domains of use, Sundanese is still consistently used by Sundanese speakers in Binong sub-district, at various age levels, starting from the age of children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly, in the eight domains of use, namely the family domain. neighborliness and friendship, transactions, traditions/culture, education, government, religion, and topics of discussion; and (3) Internal factors extremely influence the preservation of Sundanese language, especially depending on the positive attitude of Sundanese language in personal, family environment, and close relatives who make Sundanese language accustomed to the life of the people. External factors have made the use of Sundanese language marginalized and replaced by Indonesian and local Javanese.

Abstract

Menulis sebagai salah satu keterampilan bahasa dianggap sebagai sebuah keterampilan yang sulit karena berisi variabel kemampuan lainnya yang bermuara pada kegiatan menulis. Menulis dalam bahasa Prancis juga memiliki tendensi yang sama dari sisi kesulitan dan menjadi mata kuliah yang harus memiliki perhatian penuh dari para mahasiswa dan pengajar. Berbagai kesulitan pengajar dan pemelajar bahasa Prancis dalam bidang menulis, terutama di masa pandemi Covid-19, semakin terasa dengan ditemukannya beberapa hasil kajian dan observasi terhadap kemampuan menulis. Pembelajaran menulis sinektik-literasi diri ditujukan untuk mengatasi persoalan di atas dan memberikan ruang berkreasi yang lebih luas bagi pengajar dan pemelajar dalam proses belajar mengajar menulis, karena model ini secara hipotetis mampu meningkatkan kemampuan dan gairah pembelajaran menulis. Pemilihan bidang keterampilan menulis ini juga dikorelasikan dengan tuntutan kompetensi abad XXI yang berbasis pada empat kompetensi utama, yaitu komunikasi (communication), kerja sama (collaboration), berpikir kritis (critical thinking), dan kreativitas (creativity).
