Abstract

Changes in people's activity patterns during the pandemic caused discomfort responses that had implications for blood pressure fluctuations in hypertensive elderly. This phenomenon is significant because high blood pressure can cause complications and hospitalisation. This study aimed to determine the effect of TERTARIK on the comfort level and blood pressure of hypertensive elderly. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental pre-post test design with a control group was chosen. The sampling technique was purposive sampling with inclusion and exclusion criteria. The sample size obtained was 64 (32 per group), and 2 in the intervention group dropped out. Data was collected for four weeks with an intervention frequency of once a week. Comfort level and blood pressure variables are not normally distributed. These variables were tested with the Wilcoxon for paired data and the Mann-Whitney for unpaired data. The results obtained were that there was an influence of TERTARIK intervention on the comfort level (p-value 0,001), systolic blood pressure (p-value 0.001, and diastolic blood pressure (0.001) for hypertensive elderly. These results can guide nursing care for hypertensive elderly, especially with the complementary approach.

Abstract

Anemia in pregnancy is one of the priority nutritional problems to be tended to. WHO in 2019 reported Anemia in 40% of pregnant women worldwide; in Indonesia, based on the 2018 Riskesdas was 48.9%, and in West Sumatra and Padang City, 18.10% and 17.70%. One of the causes of Anemia was a low intake of vitamins B12 and E. This study aimed to determine if serum ferritin levels and vitamin B12 and E consumption were correlated with those of third-trimester pregnant women. This analytical cross-sectional study was done from April to July 2022 at Lubuk Kilangan Public Health Center and Andalas University's Biomedical Laboratory. The population was 64 third-trimester pregnant women, and 42 samples were used using proportional stratified random and simple random sampling. A SQ-FFQ (Semi-Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire) and Human ferritin kit DBC (Diagnostics Biochem Canada) examined by ELISA (Enzymed-Linked Immunosorbent Assays) were the instruments. The average of Vitamin B12 and vitamin E consumption daily was 7.71 µg and 5.87 mg, and serum ferritin was 10.53 µg/L. Serum ferritin levels were linked with vitamin B12 (r=0.879; p=0.001) and vitamin E (r=0.455; p=0.002) intake. Enough intake of vitamin B12 and vitamin E will lead to ideal serum ferritin levels.

Abstract

Various efforts have been made to prevent and eradicate Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF), including breaking the chain of dengue transmission by preventing vector breeding through Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever Mosquito Nest Eradication. The community hopes that it can be healthier and can minimize the incidence, morbidity, or death caused by DHF. This study aimed to determine the relationship between community characteristics regarding the eradication of dengue hemorrhagic fever mosquito nests and the presence of larvae. Cross-sectional studies were used as the research methods. The sampling method used random probability sampling with a sample of 85 respondents. Data analysis was performed using the chi-squared test and Pearson’s chi-squared test. No significant relationship was found between age (p = 0.151) and education level (p = 0.073) on dengue mosquito nest eradication practices, while a meaningful relationship was found between knowledge (p = 0.013), employment status (p = 0.021) on dengue mosquito nest eradication practices. The results related to the practice of eradicating dengue mosquito nests showed a relationship with the presence of mosquito larvae in water reservoirs (p = 0.042). It was concluded that several community characteristics played a role in eradicating dengue mosquito nests

Abstract

An intrauterine device (IUD) is the right choice for post-placental contraception because it has high effectiveness, reversible, long-term effects, and low side effects. Factors that cause low IUD use are knowledge, the role of health workers, husband support and psychological factors such as anxiety during insertion, side effects and trauma during past insertion. The study aims to determine the factors associated with using post-placental IUDs at Mangusada Hospital. This study used an analytic cross-sectional design. The sampling technique used purposive sampling, with 66 respondents, in September and October 2023. Data analysis using the Chi-square test, Mann Whitney and logistic regression with 95% CI and p-value significance <0.05. The results showed the p-value of knowledge, husband support, health worker information and anxiety <0.05, which means there is a relationship between knowledge, husband support, health worker information and anxiety on the use of post-placental IUD. The results of multivariate analysis showed that one sub-variable (husband's support) was most associated with post-placental IUD use with a p-value of 0.00 <0.05. Conclusion: Husband support partially relates to post-placental IUD use at Mangusada Hospital.

Abstract

This study was conducted in Palembang from June to August 2023, using descriptive analysis methods and a cross-sectional design. The research subjects were high school students from 3 schools, selected using a simple random sampling technique with a sample size of 50 students. Data about breakfast patterns in the form of breakfast habits, energy intake, and breakfast macronutrients were collected using questionnaires and 3 x 24-hour recall forms. Nutritional status was measured by measuring body weight and height to find nutritional status based on BMI/U and categorized based on the Minister of Health's Regulation on Children's Anthropometric Standards 2020. Data were analyzed using the chi-square statistical test. The research results showed that almost half of the students' breakfast energy intake was in the normal category (48%). Nearly half of the students' breakfast protein intake was in the more category (42%). Almost half of the students' breakfast fat intake was in the normal category (48%). Most students' breakfast carbohydrate intake was deficient (52%), and most students' nutritional status was normal (60%). A relationship exists between energy and fat intake at breakfast and students' nutritional status. Although protein and carbohydrate intake varies, this research provides critical insight into the factors that influence the well-being of high school students. Suggestions from this research can be used as a reference for developing more efficient nutrition intervention programs in schools to improve the health and welfare of adolescent students.

Abstract

Povidone-iodine is considered to have the broadest spectrum of antimicrobial action compared with other common antiseptics. Based on the application protocol of commercial Povidone Iodine (PVP-I) mouthwash to support a healthy lifestyle, PVP-I is commonly used in concentrations of 1.0% with a contact time of 30 seconds. The higher the concentration of antiseptic, the smaller the time needed to kill microbes, but the maximum limit of concentration and contact time needs to be considered to minimize the toxicity effects to remain safe, effective, and efficient. This study aims to determine the comparison of germ numbers before and after gargling with povidone-iodine mouthwash based on variations in the concentration of 0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6%, 0.8%, and 1% with variations in contact time of 15 and 30 seconds. The method of this research was an actual experiment with a pre-post-test design. Based on the Non-Parametric Friedman test with a confidence level of 95% (α = 0,05), there is a significant difference between the germs number before and after gargling with PVP-I in every variation of concentration and contact time (p-value = 0.00). This study concludes that PVP-I 0.2% concentration variation with 15 seconds of contact time has been effective in decreasing the number of germs.
