Abstract

This  study  aimed  to  describe  the  discourse  coherence  supported by aspects of gramatical cohesion is limited to the use of personal pronouns in the  rubric of cernak, roman, and cerpen in Kompas Newspaper. this research belongs to descriptive  qualitative. The data are obtained by review method with note technique as further technique. The data of this research are linguistic data taken from cernak, roman, and cerpen rubric of Kompas newspaper. The object of this research is personal pronouns grammatical cohesions in cernak, roman, and cerpen rubric of Kompas newspaper. Data analysis is done by identifying of the grammatical cohesion type of personal pronouns, then classify and describe the aspects of that grammatical cohesion. And then, the data is interpreted to get the conclusions. The results of this research that grammatical cohesion aspects of the personal pronouns in every rubric. the first, second, and third personal pronouns is found in every rubric. In the cernak is more likely has the form of the free third person as well as roman. Meanwhile, for the short story of adult has the plural third person because the plot of the short story of adult is more complex and have more figures than cernak or roman. The results of the data analysis showed that cernak, roman, and cerpen rubric of Kompas newspaper is a discourse coherent because it is supported by a slick lexical cohesion markers.Keywords: grammatical cohesion, Kompas, personal pronouns, rubric KOHESI GRAMATIKAL REFERENSI PRONOMINA PERSONA DALAM CERITA  ANAK, CERITA REMAJA, DAN CERITA DEWASA PADA KOMPASAbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan kepaduan wacana yang didukung oleh aspek kohesi gramatikal, dibatasi pada penggunaan referensi jenis pronomina persona dalam rubrik cernak, roman, dan cerpen pada Harian Kompas. Jenis penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif kualitatif. Penyediaan data menggunakan metode simak dengan teknik catat. Data dalam penelitian ini adalah data kebahasaan yang terdapat pada rubrik cernak, roman, dan cerpen pada Harian Kompas. Objek kajiannya adalah aspek kohesi gramatikal referensi pronomina persona yang terdapat dalam ketiga rubrik tersebut. Analisis data dilakukan dengan cara mengidentifikasi unsur kohesi gramatikal jenis referensi pronomina persona, selanjutnya mengklasifikasikan dan mendeskripsikan unsur kohesi gramatikal tersebut, kemudian data diinterpretasikan untuk mengambil kesimpulan. Pada hasil penelitian ditemukan aspek kohesi gramatikal referensi pronomina persona dalam setiap rubrik. Pada masing-masing rubrik ditemukan adanya referensi jenis pronomina persona I, II, dan III. Pada teks cerita anak (cernak) lebih cenderung menggunakan pronomina persona ketiga tunggal bentuk bebas; demikian pula untuk cerita remaja (roman). Sementara itu, untuk cerita dewasa (cerpen) cenderung lebih sering menggunakan pronomina persona ketiga jamak karena cerita dewasa atau cerpen jalinan ceritanya lebih kompleks dan melibatkan banyak tokoh (pelaku) dibandingkan dengan cernak maupun roman. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data, dapat disimpulkan bahwa rubrik cernak, roman, dan cerpen dalam surat kabar Harian Kompas merupakan sebuah wacana yang padu karena di dukung oleh penanda kohesi gramatikal yang apik.Kata kunci:  kohesi gramatikal, Kompas, referensi persona, rubrik

Abstract

Grammar is one of important aspects of a language that makes the language learnable and teachable. The teaching of grammar, especially foreign language grammar, needs a serious attention from the teachers and related institutions. Specifically in universities, the teaching of English grammar should provide the students with theoretical concepts of the English grammar and opportunity to use the concepts in their communication. The grammar teaching should also offers suitable assignments by which they may test their language hypothesis. To establish and develop the students’ knowledge about the English grammar, the use of students’ mother tongue as an instructional language in the classroom was considered effective. However, an experimental research conducted by Refnita (2006) showed that the use of Bahasa Indonesia as an instructional language of Grammar I subject was not more effective than the use of English. It is true that bahasa Indonesia is not the students’ mother tongues, but they have mastered it as almost perfectly as their mother tongues. That’s why in her research bahasa Indonesia was considered similar with the students’ mother tongues.The rejection of the proposed research hypothesis implied that pedagogical and psychological factors should be taken into account in the teaching-learning process because the success of learning English grammar does not solely depend upon the instructional language. Further analysis of the research result reflected that the students’ motivation and learning readiness even more determined the success of learning Grammar I. In relation with this phenomenon, the present article, which is based on and developed from the research result, will discuss further the pedagogical and psychological reflections of grammar teaching that need to be considered in the teaching-learning process of English grammar at universities in addition to the use of instructional language.

Abstract

Literature is a product of culture keeping abreast of human mind. Literary works is a means for the authors to express the social phenomenon in his life. The discourses about postmodernism in the second half of twentieth century, as a part of the story of human mind, was a profound interest for the Authors. In Indonesia, the postmodern discourse has come up in the 1960s. This paper involves the elements of Postmodernism in the short story “Abacadabra” written by Danarto. The dominant elements in this short story are parody, fragmentary, and historiographic metafiction.

Abstract

This research describes the pedagogical competence of teachers in arranging lesson plans in the 10th grade of Tour and Travel Business of SMK Negeri 6 Surakarta. The lesson plans prepared by the teachers will give impacts toward the learning practice and also the students' learning result. The approach used in this research is a qualitative approach in a descriptive research. The source of data in this research is the teachers, while the data obtained from the teachers' pedagogical competence are the readiness of the teachers to teach (RPP), sources and teaching materials. The techniques used to collect the data are interview and documentation. Based on the data analysis, the result of this research shows that the lesson plans of Bahasa Indonesia teachers in the 10th grade of Tour and Travel Business of SMK Negeri 6 Surakarta in arranging the lesson plans (RPP) is still not correspond to the component regulated in Permendikbud No. 22, 2016. However, the teachers could access their class by giving the learning method in the form of discussions. It will help the students to solve the problems which appeared in the lesson. The teachers have enclosed learning media to facilitate the students in receiving the learning material. However, the teacher still has not made the RPP in accordance with the correct components. Thus, it can be concluded that the pedagogic competence of Bahasa Indonesia teachers in the 10th grade of Tour and Travel Business of SMK Negeri 6 Surakarta is still not good, because the teacher has not made the lesson plans in accordance with components set by Permendikbud.Key words/phrases: pedagogical competence of teachers, lesson plans, writing skills, anecdote texts.KOMPETENSI PEDAGOGIK GURU BAHASA INDONESIA DITINJAU DARI PERENCANAAN PEMBELAJARAN KETERAMPILAN MENULIS ANEKDOTAbstrakPenelitian ini menggambarkan kompetensi pedagogik guru dalam menyusun perencanaan pembelajaran di kelas X Usaha Perjalanan Wisata SMK Negeri 6 Surakarta. Perencanaan pembelajaran yang disiapkan guru akan memberikan dampak pada pelaksanaan serta hasil belajar siswa. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kualitatif dalam jenis penelitian deskriptif. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah guru, data yang diperoleh dari kompetensi pedagogik guru adalah kesiapan guru mengajar (RPP) dan sumber serta bahan mengajar. Proses pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik wawancara dan dokumentasi. Berdasarkan analisis data, hasil penelitian ini adalah perencanaan pembelajaran guru bahasa Indonesia kelas X Usaha Perjalanan Wisata SMK Negeri 6 Surakarta dalam membuat Rancangan Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran (RPP) belum sesuai dengan komponen yang di atur dalam permendikbud No 22 Tahun 2016. Namun, guru dapat mengelola kelas dengan memberikan metode pembelajaran berupa diskusi, hal ini membantu siswa dalam menyelesaikan permasalahan yang muncul dalam proses pembelajaran. Guru sudah mencantumkan media pembelajaran dalam mempermudah siswa menerima materi pelajaran. Akan tetapi guru masih belum membuat RPP sesuai dengan komponen yang benar. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa kompetensi pedagogik guru bahasa Indonesia yang mengampu kelas X Usaha Perjalana Wisata SMK Negeri 6 Surakarta masih belum baik, karena guru belum membuat RPP sesuai dengan komponen yang diatur dalam permendikbud.Kata kunci/frase: kompetensi pedagogik guru, perencanaan pembelajaran, keterampilan menulis, teks anekdot

Abstract

The research based on observation in the field. The result of this research is students at grade x still low in writing argumentative text. The was difficulties to developed the idea and fact to support a argumentative paragraph. This phenomena appear because student in reading ability and understanding is very low. Based on the problem above, the researcher need to describe contribution of reading ability and understanding in writing argumentative text on X grade students at SMA Semen Padang. The hypothesis in this research is contribution reading ability toward writing argumentative is very significance, contribution in understanding toward writing argumentative tex, contribution reading ability and understanding join together in writing argumentative text. The researcher can conclude that reading ability and comprehension have two factors in writing argumentative text on x grade students at sma semen padang, eventhough others factor the research do not research in this thesis. The result of this research is to increase the student writing x grade at SMA Semen Padang in reading ability and comprehension.

Abstract

TRANSLATION TECHNIQUES IN TAJ: TRAGEDI DI BALIK TANDA CINTA ABADI NOVELTEKNIK PENERJEMAHAN DALAM NOVEL TAJ: TRAGEDI DI BALIK TANDA CINTA ABADIAbstractTranslation requires reputable competence when it is related with the translation quality: how accurate, clear, and readable the translator delivers the message. The quality of translation is closely related with the techniques used by the translator to tackle many obstacles in doing translation. Each technique used gives different impact in translation product. The translator has to choose the appropriate techniques in order to deliver the message accurately, clearly, and readable. This project was descriptive research which has been attempted to analyze the techniques used in translating historical romance novel Taj: A Story of Mughal India into Taj: Tragedi Di Balik Tanda Cinta Abadi by Maria M. Lubis. It used three variable factors of translation that were the two novels as objective factor, the translator as genetic factor, and the raters as affective factor to analyze, compare, rate, and score the translation techniques. The data chosen from the both novel were the sentence of both novel that consist of cultural specific items. From the analysis, it was found that there were 15 techniques used in translating the novel. These 15 techniques were adaptation 19.15%, pure borrowing 18.62%, established equivalent 9.57%, natural borrowing 8.51%, generalization 6.38%, Modulation 5.85%, particularization 5.85%, amplification 5.32%, transposition 2.66%, reduction 2.13%, inversion 2.13%, pure borrowing plus established equivalent 2.13%, description 1.60%, literal 1.60%, omission 1.60%, adaptation, pure borrowing, and omission 1.06%, amplification and pure borrowing 1.06%, natural and pure borrowing 1.06%, discursive creation, generalization and transposition, literal and generalization, pure borrowing and generalization, pure borrowing and transposition, generalization and omission, adaptation, pure borrowing and transposition each of them 0.53%. The result of research showed that the dominant technique used is adaptation since the cultural term of source language is appropriate to be translated as same equivalent into the target language.Key words: translation, translation techniques, historical romance novel AbstrakPenerjemahan membutuhkan kemampuan yang tinggi saat dikaitkan dengan kualitas penerjemahan: seberapa akurat, jelas, dan terbaca seorang penerjemah menyampaikan pesan dari bahasa sumber kedalam bahasa target. Qualitas terjemahan erat kaitannya dengan teknik yang digunakan untuk memecahkan kesulitan-kesulitan dalam penerjemahan. Masing-masing teknik tersebut berdampak berbeda terhadap hasil terjemahan. Penerjemah harus mampu memilih teknik yang tepat agar pesan yang disampaikan akurat, jelas, dan terbaca. Penelitian deskriptif ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa teknik dalam penerjemahan novel Taj: A Story of Mughal India kedalam Taj: Tragedi Di Balik Tanda Cinta Abadi oleh Maria M. Lubis. Penelitian ini menggunakan 3 faktor variable: kedua novel sebagai objektif faktor, penerjemah sebagai genetik faktor, dan informan sebagai afektif faktor untuk menganalisa, membandingkan, mengukur, dan menilai teknik penerjemahan. Data yang diambil dari kedua novel adalah berupa kalimat yang berisi istilah budaya. Dari hasil analisa ditemukan bahwa terdapat 15 jenis teknik yang digunakan dalam menerjemahkan novel ini. Teknik penerjemahan tersebut adalah adaptation 19.15%, pure borrowing 18.62%, established equivalent 9.57%, natural borrowing 8.51%, generalization 6.38%, Modulation 5.85%, particularization 5.85%, amplification 5.32%, transposition 2.66%, reduction 2.13%, inversion 2.13%, pure borrowing plus established equivalent 2.13%, description 1.60%, literal 1.60%, omission 1.60%, adaptation, pure borrowing, and omission 1.06%, amplification and pure borrowing 1.06%, natural and pure borrowing 1.06%, discursive creation, generalization and transposition, literal and generalization, pure borrowing and generalization, pure borrowing and transposition, generalization and omission, adaptation, pure borrowing and transposition each of them 0.53%. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa teknik yang paling banyak digunakan adalah adaptation dikarenakan istilah budaya lebih tepat diterjemahkan dengan mengganti elemen budaya pada bahasa sumber dengan hal yang sama pada budaya bahasa target. Kata kunci: Penerjemahan, teknik penerjemahan, novel roman sejarah

Abstract

This study is aimed at investigating how the English-Indonesian bilingual speakers use language codes in their interaction through internet. The data for this study comprised a linguistic corpus made up from postings send to a newsgroup by its members. The findings showed that codeswitching accured in this forum was similar to that in the face to face interaction. The code choice may be either marked or unmarked. The unmarked switching occured during informal and relax interaction. While the marked switching occured when the speakers wanted to negotiate a new right and obligation, specifically when they wanted to show anger, attract attention, make correction or invite another speaker to join.

Abstract

Variations may occur in the speech community that has two or more languages. Variations of these languages is the diversity of language and reflect the cultural diversity in the area Majenang. Of course, the diversity of language variation contained in Majenang background underlying the occurrence of a Varied language. Variations in language that will be displayed in this study is the language variation that occurs in the realm of social market, a market in which there Majenang. The purpose of this study is to describe the background of the realm of language variation terjadiya social Majenang said. This study is a qualitative approach to social and use the case study method. Collecting data in this study is observation, interview, tapping techniques, and study the documents. Variasi bahasa yang akan dipaparkaan dalam penelitian ini merupakan variasi bahasa yang terjadi dalam ranah sosial yakni pasar, pasar yang terdapat di Majenang. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan latar belakang dari terjadiya variasi bahasa ranah sosial masyarakat tutur Majenang. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan sosiolinguistik dan mengggunakan metode studi kasus. Teknik pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini adalah teknik observasi, wawancara, teknik sadap, dan studi dokumen. Abstract

Translating of a text needs enough skill and knowledge about the topic that will be translated. The meaning including in various language sources, lexical meaning, grammatical meaning, contextual or situational meaning, textual meaning, sociocultural meaning and idiomatic meaning. If it is connected to advertisement, meaning that will be delivered to listener or reader are messages that will persuade the reader for acting. Advertisement language is simple but it has persuasive function. The various advertisement forms have specific challenge in translating, because audio advertisement is different from visual and audio visual. Abstract

The aim of this research is to identify the outlines of job-desk based speaking textbook for working students.By having this, it is expected that a decent job-desk textbook for working students who want to improve their performance at work in speaking area can be produced. Based on the conducted pre-research, it was found that the English Department worker students in Batam are charged with using English actively in presenting, introducing, explaining, discussing, negotiating, giving direction, and serving. Furthermore, based on those things above, the textbook used so far does not meet the needs of working students. Therefore, the researcher formulated a job-desk based textbook in speaking class to fulfill the working students’ needs specifically. This case study qualitative research on the students of English Department is conducted by applying purposive sampling technique. In addition, the data was collected through questionnaire and interview which were adjusted as the indicators of the textbook. The result showed that the students who work in Batam have problems in grammar, vocabularies, pronunciation and the language expressions in presenting, discussion, giving instruction and negotiating. Based on those problems, the researcher composed a textbook that could possibly solves the students’ problems at work.Keywords: Job-desk based textbook, Working students, Speaking
