Abstract

High-Ordered Thinking Skills (HOTS) are skills that must be possessed by students in the 21st century. To obtain good HOTS, a HOTS-based learning model is needed. State Senior High School (SMAN) 2 Jonggol, West Java, is one of the schools that has implemented the Independent Curriculum since 2020. The Independent Curriculum requires HOTS-based learning such as Project Based Learning (PjBL), and Problem-Based Learning (PBL). This means that SMAN 2 Jonggol has implemented HOTS-based learning. However, based on the results of interviews with chemistry teachers, students' HOTS was still low, indicated by students who tended to be passive and had difficulty concluding learning material. Therefore, this study uses a problem-based learning model to analyze the increase in HOTS in green chemistry material. This study uses the Classroom Action research method. The sampling technique in this study was purposive sampling, with a total of 42 students. The results of the Wilcoxon test have a Positive Ranks value at N of 42. This explains that there is an increase in student HOTS after using the problem-based learning model. So, it can be concluded that the problem-based learning model affects increasing students' HOTS skills.

Abstract

This research aims to improve students' logical thinking skills in chemistry through an inquiry approach. The research method used is classroom action research by applying the Kemmis and McTaggart models. The research subjects were 35 students of XI MIPA 4 at SMAN 1 Manyar Gresik. Data was collected using a logical thinking skill assessment sheet consisting of deductive and inductive thinking components. The results showed that before the intervention, students could think logically with an average of 61.19, with a deductive component of 64.286 and an inductive component of 58.1. After applying a variety of learning models with an inquiry approach, there was an increase in students' logical thinking skills. In the cycle, the average logic thinking skills score increased to 76.9, with a deductive component of 81.43 and an inductive component of 72.38. In cycle II, there was a further increase. The average logical thinking skill reached 87.1, a deductive of 91.05, and an inductive of 83.15. Based on the results of this study, it inferred that variations in learning models with an inquiry approach show an increase in students' logical thinking skills in chemistry learning. Learning models such as POGIL and the 5E learning cycle encourage students to actively participate in the learning process and build a strong understanding of chemical concepts

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the understanding of reaction kinetics in grade 11 students. The study used a multi-tiered diagnostic instrument to analyze the level of understanding and alternative concepts in 139 students. The results showed that understanding reaction kinetics was a difficult topic for grade 11 students, with a total of 107 alternative concepts revealed. As many as 63% of questions that display graphs obtain significant alternative concepts. Overall, the multi-tier format for the diagnostic instrument shows excellent utility for investigating students' understanding and uncovering students' alternative concepts on reaction kinetics. Confidence in answering questions also provides further information about how students perform on tests and classifies these alternative concepts.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze students’ understanding of the green chemistry of principles through implementing the microscale practicum with a modified-free inquiry learning model in acid-base solution material. Microscale practicum with inquiry learning model is applied to help students understand the green chemistry principles that are expected to be understood during the learning process. This study involved thirty six students in XI MIPA A Senior High School in Jakarta, 2022/2023 academic year. The qualitative method was employed to reveal the understanding of students' green chemistry principles  through multiple data collection of open-ended questions tests of understanding green chemistry principles, classroom observation, reflective journals, and semi-structured interviews. The study demonstrated that students' understanding of green chemistry principles increased with the implementation of microscale practicum with a modified-free inquiry learning model on acid-base solution materials. The concepts that students understand well are the principle of green chemistry in general, the principle of "Prevention", the principle of "Reducing Hazardous Chemicals", the principle of " ‘Design of Safe Chemicals", the design of "Safe Solvents", the principle of " Renewable Substance", and the principle of " Safer Chemistry to Prevent Accidents" in green chemistry. Thus, microscale practicum  with a modified-free inquiry learning model can help students understand the principles of green chemistry.

Abstract

According to PISA 2018, scientific literacy in Indonesia is still lower than in other countries. Scientific literacy skills are needed to understand scientific issues, the risks and benefits of science, as well as to understand the nature of students' science through Ethnoscience-based chemistry learning. From the results of a review of several articles, the aim is to analyze students' chemical literacy skills through an ethnoscience approach. Learning chemistry is closely related to everyday life and matters related to local wisdom. The method used is the libbiometric method using Mendeley, Google Scholar and VOSviewer. The results of the analysis show that the ethnoscience approach can significantly improve students' chemical literacy skills in chemistry learning. This approach is categorized as high with an N-gain value of 0.67<0.58<1.00 in the ability to increase chemical literacy. The application of ethnoscience in chemistry learning can provide significant benefits in increasing students' chemical literacy.

Abstract

This research aimed at finding out whether Problem Based Learning with Pre-Lecture Quiz was effective or not in increasing student critical thinking skill. This research was instigated with the learning taking place tended to be centered on the teacher and made students passive.  Students need to be actively involved in the learning process for effective and meaningful learning. Quantitative method was used in this research with quasi-experimental approach and pretest-posttest control group design. The samples were the eleventh-grade students of MIPA 5 as the control group and the students of MIPA 6 as the experimental group The techniques of analyzing data were t-test to find out the difference of student critical thinking skill and N-gain test to find out the effectiveness level.  The research findings showed that (1) the score signifigansi of t-test 0.000 was lower than 0.05, so H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted.  The N-gain score of the experimental group was 76.8%, it was on effective category, the score of control group was 62%, and it was on effective enough category; and (2) The indicators of students' critical thinking skills in the experimental class were higher than the control class, especially in the indicators of strategy and tactics with a percentage of 84.21% and 76.01% respectively.  It could be concluded that PBL learning with PLQ was effective in increasing student critical thinking skill

Abstract

This research aims to develop learning videos and learning websites as interactive learning media on the nomenclature of inorganic compounds. Learning videos are uploaded on the YouTube platform and learning websites are uploaded via the Google sites platform. The research subjects were 103 students in classes X-1, X-2 and X-8 at SMA Negeri 30 Jakarta. This research was carried out based on the role of digital media in supporting understanding of the nomenclature of inorganic compounds. Based on the analysis of students' needs, it is necessary to create digital media that can help deepen students' understanding of material accessed via devices or gadgets. The research method used is the Research and Development (R&D) method. Based on the results of learning media trials, an average percentage of media practicality was obtained at 82.3% in the very good category. At the validation stage by the tutor, its validity was tested using Aiken's V of 0.93 which indicated the high category.

Abstract

The importance of mastering the 4C skills—particularly creative thinking—is paramount in the digital era. However, the reality is that the implementation of learning in schools has not yet effectively stimulated creative thinking skills, supported by observation results which show that students' creative thinking skills are relatively low. This research was conducted with the aim of determining the effectiveness of implementing the PBL-SSI model on students' creative thinking skills in green chemistry material. This type of research is quantitative research with a quasy experiment method in the form of a pretest-posttest control group design. The research subjects used were 23 students of SMAN 5 Semarang class X.3 and 28 students of X.4. Determined using a cluster random sampling technique. This research used an independent sample t-test and effect size, the t-test value was <0.001 and the effect size test was 0.708 (medium), indicating that PBL-SSI can stimulate creative thinking skills and there is even an increase in the medium category.
