Abstract

This article aims to explain how animation film can increase students’ motivation in learning spoken narrative text. Animation film is used as a media in teaching spoken narrative text to increase students’ motivation in learning spoken narrative. Animation film is chosen as a media in teaching spoken narrative text because it is familiar to Junior High School students. Students will be more interested and motivated to study if learning process is done by doing fun activities.  In addition, animation film gives them a guidelines about what they want to tell. As an audio visual media, it enable students to understand the story through sight and sounds. Then, animation film also facilitates students to memorize the events in sequence. By using animation film to teach spoken narrative text, students will be easier to understand the story and can tell the story well.

Abstract

AbstrakPengajaran membaca di sekolah menengah atas memiliki beberapa permasalahan. Diantara masalah tersebut ialah strategi yang digunakan oleh guru dalam mengajar belum menunjang tujuan pembelajaran secara utuh. Hal ini berdampak padapemahaman siswa terhadap isi bacaan yang masihjauh dari apa yang diharapkan oleh guru. Untuk pemecahan masalah tersebut dibutuhkan strategi yang tepat dan yang dapat membantu serta mempermudah siswa dalam membaca serta memahami sebuah teks bahasa inggris. StrategiIn My Head dianggap cocok untuk diaplikasikan pada pengajaran membaca karena strategiini dapat membantu siswa dalam menyusun ide – ide yang mereka tangkap dari isi bacaan, yang mana ide-ide tersebut nantinya akan dituangkan siswa ke dalam sebuah handout secara individual. Setelah itu guru akan menanyakan pemahaman masing-masing siswa dan pada akhirnya guru akan merangkum pemahaman siswa secara umum mengenai keseluruhan isi teks sehingga terciptalah sebuah pemahaman yang sempurna.Kata Kunci: In My Head strategy, handout, pengajaran membaca.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out the students’ ability in translating phrasal verbs presented in sentences from English into Indonesian and the difficulties that they face in translating them. The population of this research was English Department students of Universitas Negeri Padang who registered in academic year of 2013 and the subject of this research was chosen using simple random sampling. The problems that were discussed in this research were how the students’ ability in understanding phrasal verbs through translating them and what difficulties that they face in translating phrasal verbs. The instrument used in this research was a translation test. The result of the research showed that the students’ ability in translating phrasal verbs was quite good, with the score 68.1. Based on the students’ translation test result, it could be seen some difficulties that they face in translating phrasal verbs. First, they tended to translate word-per-word and second, they tended to omit the particle of the phrasal verbs. Based on the statements above, it could be said that the students’ ability in translating phrasal verbs was quite good despite of some difficulties that they face in translating them.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to explain one of the approaches that can be used in teaching vocabulary at kindergarten. One of the approaches is BCCT (Beyond Centre and Circle Time). BCCT is a approach which is used to train children development by using playing approach which creates in center form. Centre form consists of block centre, nature centre, art and creativity centre , sensorymotor centre dan sociodrama centre. Teachers can choose one of the centres that is suitable with material that will be taught. In this paper the writer chose the block centre as approach to teach vocabulary to the children, so children will not fell bored because they learn with something that is interesting to them. Penulisan makalah ini bertujuan untuk memaparkan salah satu pendekatan  pengajaran yang dapat digunakan dalam mengajarkan vocabulary untuk Taman kanak-kanak. Salah satu pendekatan tersebut adalah BCCT (Beyond Centre and Circle Time). Pendekatan pembelajaran melalui BCCT ialah pendekatan yang digunakan untuk melatih perkembangan anak dengan mengunakan pendekatan bermain yang di design dalam bentuk sentra. Sentra bermain terdiri atas block centre, nature centre, art and creativity centre , sensorymotor centre dan sociodrama centre. Guru memilih sentra yang akan digunakan sesuai dengan materi vocabulary yang akan diajarkan. Dalam makalah ini penulis memilih block centre dalam pengajaran vocabulary kepada anak. Jadi anak tidak merasa bosan karena mereka belajar melalui hal-hal yang mereka senangi.

Abstract

AbstractThis paper is aimed at describing the use of ‘Tongue Twister’ to improve students’ pronunciation of /s/ and /∫/ consonants at junior high school students. This technique is applied to help junior high school to pronounce words that have similar sounds. This technique enables students to solve the problem by using tongue twister sentence given to them. ‘Tongue Twister’ allows students to practice the sentence repeatedly and to determine the appropriate sounds to each word.

Abstract

This paper deals with the use of KWL charts as Know, Want, and Learned (what is known, what is known, and what has been learned) in enhancing students’ comprehension of reading scientific texts in Senior High School students. KWL charts can be used by teachers to make learning English more enjoyable. The use of this KWL chart is used as a solution for teachers to solve students' problems in reading texts, especially scientific forsenior high school students.KWL charts helps the teachers in teaching reading scientific text more interesting, so that it will motivate students to comprehend the text.Giving a table consisting of 3 columns, K, W, and L, which column K is for background knowledge, column W for something unknown or form of a question for the child, and column L for conclusion about what the student has learned or questioned earlier in column W of the scientific text given. These methods or KWL charts are suitable for application in high school to all classes.

Abstract

AbstrakPenulisan makalah ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan penggunaan brainstorming activity dalam pengajaran menulis discussion text. Brainstorming adalah teknik yang terdapat dalam step prewriting. Pada implementasinya, brainstorming activity merupakan hal utama dalam satu kali pertemuan di kelas, karena prewriting merupakan fondasi penciptaan suatu teks. Brainstorming activity bertujuan untuk memudahkan siswa dalam menciptakan dan mengembangkan ide. Brainstorming dapat di aplikasikan secara berkelompok ataupun individual. Proses pengajaran terbagi kedalam tiga tahapan, yakni Pre Teaching, Whilst Teaching, dan Post Teaching. Pada Pre Teaching, guru mengaktifkan latar belakang pengetahuan siswa tentang topik yang akan dibangun jadi teks pada tahap berikutnya. Pada Whilst Teaching, guru memodelkan sebagian teks (the issue) sebagai contoh, kemudian siswa melakukan brainstorming secara berekelompok. Pada Post Teaching, guru menyimpulkan pembelajaran dan memberikan tugas pada siswa.Key words: Brainstorming, Prewriting, Discussion text.

Abstract

Learning in Primary Schools should be interesting and fun. It is intended that the students have the motivation when learning, so that students are not easily saturated in learning, especially learning reading comprehension. One way to make learning more fun and not monotonous is by using a media. Media can help the  teachers in presenting the material, so that students more easily to understand that material. The great media that can be used the teacher in teaching reading comprehension is by using Big Book. Big Book shaped a great book, it contains a brief story with great writing and the colourful of pictures. This book can be used for elementary school children grades 4, 5 and 6. The author hopes of using this Big Book by the teachers to be more creative in the use of media and improving the quality of student learning, especially the ability to understand the text or story.

Abstract

Abstrak Artikel ini ditulis bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan salah satu strategi pengajaran kosa kata bahasa Inggris di Sekolah Dasar dengan menggunakan Hang Mouse online game yang terdapat pada www.Spellingcity.com. Permainan ini merupakan jenis permainan tebak kata yang dikhususkan untuk anak-anak yang baru memulai belajar bahasa Inggris. Melalui permainan ini guru dapat mengajarkan kosa kata bahasa Inggris berdasarkan topik-topik yang telah disediakan yangmana penerapannya akan mendasari seluruh tahapan mengajar: elaborasi, eksplorasi dan konfirmasi. Dengan menggunakan permainan ini sebagai media untuk mengajarkan kosa kata bahasa Inggris akan membuat siswa lebih tertarik untuk belajar karena belajar melalui permainan adalah salah satu kriteria belajar yang sangat dibutuhkan oleh siswa. Abstract

Abstract This paper aims to explain the reader how to teach junior high school by implementing idea listing technique. Idea Listing technique is an appropriate technique to teach writing. The product of writing is affected by the content as one as component of writing. Content is dominated by how brainstorming goes. In writing students often get problem in organizing their ideas or brainstorming their ideas that has big impact to produce a good writing. ILT can help students to overcome or solve the problem. It becomes the reason why this paper is written. In Idea Listing technique students are asked to produce the idea in short time and put it on the paper to keep their idea and then relate it with the topic. This technique is more effective and suitable to solve the problem and can improve students writing, attention, ability and motivation in writing process. Key words: Writing, Teaching Writing, ILT
