Abstract

This paper’s aim is to explain how to use Anime Noises Game in teaching Animal’s name for kindergarten students (young learner). Teaching vocabulary to young learner is different from high school students, because young students have different characteristics and learning style. Anime Noises Game is one of the way of teaching that can be used by the teacher to overcome the problems. Anime Noises Game helps students to learn Animal’s name comprehension that have been learned before. The steps in using Anime Noises Game are brainstorming, discussing about the material, and playing the Anime Noises Game. In brainstorming, teacher shows several pictures related to the material along with general questions about the pictures after that. The next step is discussing about the material, teacher teach students name of animal and sound of animal. The next step Anime Noises Game, teacher will guide the students in playing this game that will help them in learning Animal’s Name that has been taught. And the last steps is concluding. In this step, the teacher make the conclusion about the material.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and speaking ability at grade 8 of SMP Negeri 26 Padang. This research was quantitative research which used correlational technique design. The sample of the research was 30 students of grade eight selected by clustering sampling. The instruments used in the research were vocabulary test and speaking test. Vocabulary test consisted of 50 questions of multiple choices, and speaking test in the form of role play. The research data were in the form of interpretation of students’ vocabulary and speaking test results, and their correlation. Based on data analysis, it was found that students’ vocabulary mastery and speaking ability were fair. They were proved by the mean score 65 for vocabulary mastery and 68 for speaking ability. Moreover, there was strong correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and speaking ability. It was shown by the rvalue = 0,703.

Abstract

AbstractThis paper discusses a learning medium, especially for English language teaching to Junior High School students through retelling stories of cartoon movie. By using this media, it can be one of the exciting activities for bringing students interested in learning English with confident . In this activity, students are able to convey his ideas and all students obtain the same opportunities to speak at every meeting. Its activities are oral activities that relax, happy and fun. This Instructional media is expected to be useful for English teachers, so that they will enrich the teaching of speaking techniques. Abstract

AbstractPenelitian ini dimaksudkan untuk menjawab pertanyaan penelitian (1) Apa saja teknik penilaian yang digunakan guru Bahasa Inggris di SMPN 1 2X11 Kayutanam berdasarkan kurikulum 2013, dan (2) Bagaimana guru Bahasa Inggris di SMPN 1 2X11 Kayutanam menerapkan teknik penilaian berdasarkan kurikulum 2013. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif. Data dikumpulkan melalui telaah dokumen serta angket guru dan siswa. Data dari hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) Teknik penilaian yang digunakan adalah tes tertulis, tes lisan, penugasan, unjuk kerja, proyek dan portofolio. Meskipun seluruh teknik penilaian digunakan oleh guru, akan tetapi tidak semuajenis teknik penilaian yang digunakan. Untuk teknik tes tertulis guru hanya menggunakan jenis soal pilihan, isian ganda dan esai. Untuk penugasan, guru memilih penugasan secara berkelompok. Sementara untuk unjuk kerja, guru sering meminta siswa untuk berbicara daripada menulis, dan (2) Implementasi teknik penilaian berdasarkan angket guru dan siswa masing-masing adalah 80,16% dan 65,94% dengan kategori baik

Abstract

Abstrak Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk (1) mengidentifikasikan kemampuan siswa dalam memahami simple past tense dan simple future tense dan (2) mengidentifikasikan persepsi siswa dalam proses belajar mengajarnya. Data penelitian ini adalah tes grammar yang berjumlah 30 soal, 15 soal simple past tense dan 15 soal simple future tense dan angket yang berjumlah 19 pernyataan. Temuan penelitian yaitu kemampuan siswa dalam memahami simple past tense dan simple future tense masih sangat kurang yaitu dengan nilai rata-rata 37,31 dari 78 sampel. Sedangkan persepsi siswa terhadap proses belajar mengajarnya tergolong baik dengan TCR 82,32 %. Key words: Teaching, Learning, Tense, Past, Future, Perception

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the types of error and causes of error on using gerund among the second year students of English Department of Universitas Negeri Padang. This research is desciptive qualitative research. The sample of this research is 39 students selected using simple random sampling. The instrument used in this research was test. The test was divided into two part; completion test and translation test. The students were given 15 questions for completion test and 20 questions for translation test. The research data were students’ answer sheet. Based on the data analysis, it was found that the total error is 291 errors. Most errors were misformation with the total number (125 errors/ 43%), second place was omission error (110 errors/ 38%) and the last was addition error (56 errors/ 19%). Meanwhile, misordering error was not found in this study. Then, it was also found the causes of error. The most causes of error was ignorance of rules restriction with the total number 125. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the students still experience great difficulties in using gerund.

Abstract

Abstrak Makalah ini membahas tentang penggunaan Pictorial Story sebagai media pengajaran dalam menulis sebuah recount text yang difokuskan pada siswa kelas 2 Sekolah Menengah Pertama (SMP). Siswa Sekolah Menengah Pertama (SMP) pada umumnya kesulitan dalam membuat sebuah recount text. Hal ini disebabkan karena siswa Sekolah Menengah Pertama (SMP) kesulitan mencari ide yang akan dikembangkanmenjadisebuahteks. Tidak adanya aktivitas dan media pembelajaran yang menuntun dan memotivasi siswa untuk menggunakan imajinasi dalam menemukan dan menyusun ide-ide tersebut juga menjadi penghalang dalam membuat recount text. Maka dari itu makalah ini mengusulkan penggunaan Pictorial Story untuk membantu siswa mengumpulkan ide-ide dan meningkatkan motivasi siswa dalam menulis sebuah recount text. Pictorial Story adalah salah satu media yang bisa membantu siswa dalam menulis bahasa Inggris. Pictorial Story ini terdiri dari beberapa gambar dan dijelaskan oleh sebuah cerita sehingga siswa akan termotivasi untuk menulis. Dengan memanfaatkan Pictorial Story sebagai media pembelajaran menulis recount text, siswa akan termotivasi untuk membuat cerita yang lebih menarik. Selain itu guru dapat membuat recount text sendiri sebagai materi pembelajaran dengan menggunakan Pictorial Story sehingga pembelajaran akan lebih menarik. Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif yang menggambarkan kemampuan mahasiswa IAIN, jurusan bahasa Inggris dalam menerjemah istilah-istilah Islam kedalam bahasa Inggris. Ada 31 mahasiswa yang sudah mengambil mata kuliah translation 1 dan 2  terpilih sebagai sampel dalam penelitian ini. Data didapatkan dengan memberikan tes yang terdiri dari 50 istilah-istilah Islam. Mahasiswa diminta untuk menerjemahkan istilah-istilah Islam tersebut kedalam bahasa Inggris dalam waktu 100 menit. Data yang didapat dari tes tersebut dinilai dengan menggunakan Accuracy Rating Instrument. Hasil dari penelitian ini, ditemukan 3 (9,67%)  dari mahasiswa mempunyai kemampuan menerjemah sangat bagus, 22 (70,97%) berkemampuan bagus, dan 6 (19,36%) mempunyai kemampuan kurang bagus. Dari data tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa mahasiswa IAIN mempunyai kemampuan bagus dalam menerjemah. Akan tetapi, mereka masih perlu belajar agar kemampuan mereka menjadi lebih baik. Kata kunci: terjemahan, teknik terjemahan, kemampuan menerjemah, terjemahan istilah Islam.

Abstract

This research is about students’ ability in writing a business letter, especially an inquiry letter. This research was aimed at analyzing students’ ability in writing inquiry letters deal with its letter organization. This research used descriptive research. The population of this research were all of the first year Office Administration students from two classes, X AP1 and X AP2. There were seventy-four students. The samples were twenty-five students taken by using random sampling technique. The instrument applied in this research was a written test about inquiry letter. Students were asked to write inquiry letter based on three topics that they have chosen in the previous week for sixty menutes. The data was analyzed by using a rubric score of the inquiry letter deal with its letter organization. The result of this research showed that students got 4 (well) in writing the inquiry letter deal with its letter organization. However, there were some organization of letter that did not write properly. Students were expected to have more understanding in writing a proper inquiry letter deal with its letter organizaton

Abstract

This article explain about teaching speaking skill by using Audio-lingual Method (ALM) and Communicative Language Teaching (CLT). In classroom activities, ALM is the first method. The teacher drills the students’ pronunciation by using some drills in ALM techniques. After the students understand how to pronouns it, the teacher use CLT as the continuation method. In CLT, the teacher gives a picture and the situation to the students and asks the students to make a short conversation based on the situation in the picture. In this activities, the teacher use role play as the classroom activities. AbstrakArtikel ini menguraikan tentang pengajaran speaking skill dengan menggunakan metode Audio-lingual Method (ALM) dan Communicative Language Teaching (CLT). Dalam aktivitas pengajarannya, ALM adalah metode pertama yang digunakan. Guru melatih pengucapan (pronunciation) siswa dengan menggunakan drill-drill yang ada pada ALM. Setelah siswa paham bagaimana cara pengucapannya (pronunciation), guru menggunakan CLT sebagai metode lanjutan dari ALM. Dalam CLT, guru memberikan sebuah gambar dan situasinya  kepada siswa dan menyuruh siswa membuat sebuah percakapan pendek berdasarkan situasi yang ada di dalam gambar tersebut. Dalam aktivitas ini, guru menggunakan role play sebagai aktivitas di dalam kelas.   Kata kunci:   Transactional and interpersonal text, Audio-lingual Method, Repetation, Communicative Language Teaching, Role play
