Abstract

Philology is one approach that can be used in the study of religions. This is very relevant considering that the study of every religion always has something to do with sacred texts, as well as manuscripts. This research focuses on knowing the meaning of philology, the urgency of philology/tahqiq in the study of religions and Islamic studies, as well as the requirements of a philologist/muhaqqiq. This research uses a quantitative descriptive approach with a type of library research, namely research that uses data collection techniques by analyzing literature, books, documents, and various reports available digitally and in print related to the research theme. The results of the research show that philology/text study is a study in conducting a study by conducting text criticism. In this sense, Philology is known as the study of the intricacies of texts. The Urgency of the Philology/ Manuscript Study Approach is currently considered important to be studied more deeply, including the two objects of study. The first is towards the study of the study of religions, this is intended to be an additional approach in analyzing, researching a text or religious texts. Second, to the study of the study of Islamic thought. The importance of this philology in the object of Islamic study can be seen from three issues whose object of study is the Qur'an, al-Hadith and the philological approach to texts, manuscripts and books (heurmeneutics). The requirements for a Muhaqqiq are grouped into two. First, general requirements, meaning that everyone who wants to engage in philological studies must have a basis for the first requirement. While the second condition contains additional conditions as added value for a philologist/Muhaqqiq.

Abstract

This research examines the philosophical thoughts of John Rawls and Martha Nussbaum on social justice through library research methods with a qualitative hermeneutic approach. The primary focus is to explore the concept of justice from both thinkers' perspectives, analyze convergence and divergence points, and synthesize a comprehensive conceptual framework. The study compares four key domains: equality conception, resource distribution mechanisms, the state's role, and the ethical dimensions of social life. Research findings demonstrate that social justice is a dynamic practice that transcends material distribution, emphasizing individual empowerment and human dignity recognition. Rawls offers a procedural approach through the original position, while Nussbaum focuses on core capabilities development. The synthesis of their thoughts produces a theoretical framework that promotes public policy transformation towards a more inclusive and just society.

This article discusses the importance of integrating revelation and reason in building a solid theological argument in the science of Kalam. Revelation as a source of absolute truth and reason as a rational instrument of human beings cannot be separated in the process of formulating and defending Islamic creed. Through a historical approach and analysis of the thoughts of classical and contemporary figures, this article shows how both complement each other in answering the challenges of science and da'wah. The results of this study confirm that the integration of revelation and reason is a crucial epistemological approach in the development of rational, contextual, and transformative Islamic thought, especially in education and da'wah.

Abstract

Muslims have experienced political, social, economic, and religious attitudes that were increasingly weakened and experienced a setback in the Middle Ages, especially in the Arab region. so that it caused a reaction for Islamic figures to carry out reform movements such as in the fields of politics, science, and religion. Muhammad bin Abdul Wahab, as one of these figures, tried to carry out reforms because he saw the condition of Muslims, especially Arabs, who had made many deviations. This paper focuses on Muhammad bin Abdul Wahab's theological thoughts and his influence on the development of the Islamic world. This study uses a descriptive method with a literature study, namely studying and analysing data related to the thoughts of Muhammad bin Abdul Wahab. Based on this research, it can be concluded that Muhammad bin Abdul Wahab received considerable influence from Ibn Taimiyah and the Hambali school of thought. The renewal movement emphasises the purification of aqidah by avoiding all forms of taklid, bid'ah, and superstition. His thoughts are widespread not only in Arab lands but also in several Islamic areas, including Indonesia.

Abstract

In the field of philosophy, there are three main pillars that form the basis of the framework of thought, namely ontology, epistemology, and axiology. Ontology is concerned with the study of the existence and nature of reality, and questions what exists and how the relationships between these entities are. Meanwhile, epistemology discusses the theory of knowledge, investigating the nature, sources, and limitations of knowledge, and how humans gain an understanding of the world. Axiology focuses on values and ethics, namely studying what is considered good or bad, and the basis for moral actions and decisions. These three schools of thought are interrelated and form a comprehensive worldview, influencing various fields of knowledge, including science and the humanities. Understanding the core of these three schools of thought is important for examining fundamental questions related to existence, knowledge, and the values that guide human life. The purpose of this study is to investigate and analyze the three important dimensions in the philosophy of science, namely ontology, epistemology, and axiology, along with the existing major schools of thought, to build a comprehensive and integrated conceptual framework in understanding the foundations of science.

Abstract

This review aimed to discuss the topic from the Paper by Dawood Ahmed and the Book from Jack Barbalet. Both writings discussed about the relation between religion and the state which then connected in seeing how people relate their spirituality with their bought goods. This writing explores the dynamic interplay between religion, consumer behavior, and state policy in the context of modern capitalist societies. As consumerism becomes increasingly embedded in cultural norms, the demand for religious attributes in products—such as halal labels or symbolic branding—reflects a convergence of spiritual identity and market participation. This writing also highlights how religious practices can stimulate economic growth, particularly when facilitated by a pluralist or neutral state framework. Using Indonesia as a primary case, where Pancasila enshrines belief in God without adopting a theocratic model, the paper illustrates how religious consumer demands have spurred regulatory and commercial responses.

This ritual strengthens spiritual ties to the Prophet Muhammad and serves as a mechanism for reinforcing the Sayyid community’s identity. The study affirms that Cikoang’s local Islam is a unique blend of theological doctrine and cultural expression.

Abstract

This study aims to understand how men construct their self-image through gym and skincare practices, and how these practices reflect and shape masculine identity within the context of contemporary consumer culture. Using a body anthropology approach, the study draws on Pierre Bourdieu’s concepts of habitus and symbolic capital, as well as Judith Butler’s theory of gender performativity. The male body is examined as both a site of internalized social values and a space for the performative negotiation of masculine identity. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with seven male key informants from various age groups and occupational backgrounds, and analyzed qualitatively and narratively. The findings reveal that Gym practices serve not only for physical fitness but also as a means of cultivating social credibility and an aesthetic form of masculinity. Meanwhile, Skincare is practiced as a site of value negotiation between self-care and adherence to masculine norms. Social media amplifies the visualization of male bodies and creates new pressures for men to appear ‘ideal,’ while at the same time tensions persist between traditional masculinity and emerging lifestyle trends. The study concludes that the male body functions as a complex cultural arena, where value debates, normative shifts, and dynamic gender articulations take place.

Abstract

This article examines the dialectic between various schools of thought in Islamic philosophy:  Hushuli, Huduri, Bayani, Irfani, and Burhani, employing a qualitative philosophical approach through library research.  The primary focus is twofold: First, the debate between Hushuli and Huduri, centered on whether knowledge is correspondence-based (knowledge about—external), or immanent (knowledge by presence—internal).  Second, the debate between Bayani, Burhani, and Irfani, focusing on how knowledge is produced, its object, and its source. The research reveals that, firstly, the Hushuli school posits knowledge as correspondence-based, requiring an exchange of information between subject and object—an external process.  Conversely, the Huduri school argues for immanent knowledge, asserting that knowledge is inherently present, directly experienced reality, emphasizing personal experience, reason, reflection, and contemplation—an internal process. Secondly, regarding Bayani, Burhani, and Irfani, the research shows that Bayani views texts as the object of knowledge and truth, with reason as its instrument.  Burhani, on the other hand, considers the universe/reality as its object, utilizing rationality and empirical observation (laboratory methods) as its primary tools.  Irfani, however, posits the God-knowing soul as the object of knowledge, arguing that rationality and raw texts are insufficient;  intuition (kashf) and inner reflection are necessary.  Knowledge, in this perspective, is attained through direct divine illumination.
