Abstract

BACKGROUND Every year, cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in the globe. The Framingham Risk Score forecasts the likelihood of cardiovascular diseases occurring within the next decade. Waist-to-Hip Ratio (WHR) is an anthropometric measurement representing abdominal fat and is regarded as superior to Body Mass Index (BMI) for predicting cardiovascular risk. Excessive fat intake will increase the risk of CVD. The purpose of this study is to determine the association between WHR and fat consumption and the risk of cardiovascular events in the productive age METHOD This cross-sectional observational study included 173 participants aged 30-64 at RW 12, Dutamas, Grogol Pertamburan, between September and November 2018. Using main data to determine the measures of WHR, BMI, data for FRS calculations, and 3x24-hour food recall interviews, data were collected using consecutive non-random sampling and non-random non-consecutive sampling. IBM SPSS 23 was utilized for the data analysis. RESULTS There were 62 male respondents and 111 female respondents. Both men and women are at risk of a high WHR measurement. However, men are more likely to be found with obesity in comparison to women. Both men and women presented a high fat intake of ³80% RDA. In the FRS test with WHR and fat intake, results show a p-value of <0.05 for men and women; meanwhile, the FRS test with BMI resulted in p> 0.05 for men and p<0.05 for women. CONCLUSION There was a relationship between the Waist-to-Hip Ratio (WHR) and fat intake with the risk of cardiovascular events.

Abstract

Background Dry eye syndrome is an eye disorder that affect tear film and can causes damage to the surface of the eyes. This disease is one of the health burdens because of its high prevalence. There are various risk factors for dry eye syndrome, one of which is coffee consumption, due to its high caffeine content. The purpose of this study was to assess the association between coffee consumption and dry eye syndrome in adults. Methods An analytic observational study with a cross-sectional design was used for this research. The population in this study were adults (20 – 59 years old) in RW 07 Panaragan Pojok with sample size of 115 people who were taken using cluster random sampling and simple random sampling. Data were collected through filling out questionnaires regarding coffee consumption and filling out OSDI questionnaires. Research data was analyzed using the Chi-square test. Results The results of this study shows that subjects who have dry eye syndrome are dominated by late adults in age 30 – 9 years old and male sex. Of all subjects with dry eye syndrome, most of them have a habit of consuming coffee, especially in light consumption. There is no relationship between gender (p = 0,776) and age (p = 0,221) with dry eye syndrome. Meanwhile, it was found that there is a relationship between coffee consumption and dry eye syndrome (p = 0,000). Conclusions This study shows that coffee consumption is associated with dry eye syndrome in adulthood. However, it was found that there is no significant relationship between sociodemographic characteristics (age and gender) and dry eye syndrome.

Abstract

Background Herbal masks are made from lamination-spraying of Nephrolepis exaltata (NE) extract on regular medical masks, which may absorb Volatile Organic compounds (VOC) in the occupational exposure of the textile industry'sindustry's dyeing area. Therefore, clinically, the effect on nasal mucociliary transport time (TMSH) needed to be tested and compared with ordinary cloth-mask teens used by textile industry workers as their daily personal protective equipment. Methods Pre- and post-test randomized control trials on 30 textile-dyeing areas of textile industry workers in Bawean Indonesia, divided into two groups; 1) users of NE herbal masks (N=17) as the treatment group and 2) regular cloth mask users (N=13) as control-group, for eight weeks. First, the TMSH time (seconds) was carried out before and after treatment using the saccharin test by an ENT specialist, followed by a different test on delta. Results The TMSH-time of NE herbal mask users before vs after treatment was 1169.60 ± 644.55 seconds vs 1075.75 ± 677.36 (p = 0.102). On subjects wearing regular cloth masks was 1113.75 ± 479.43 vs 1187.40 ± 544.96 (p = 0.003). The mean delta'sdelta's difference before and after treatment was 25.5 seconds, with a significant difference in mean delta TMSH-time between the treatment and control groups (p = 0.048). Conclusions Textile-industry workers who wear NE herbal masks have better TMSH times than regular cloth mask wearer

Abstract

Background The development of COVID-19, which continues to increase in Indonesia, impacts the Indonesian people and causes stress due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior studies in several countries have shown that stress affects smokers during the COVID-19 pandemic. It affects smokers in two different ways, either they increase smoking or decrease smoking. This study aimed to determine the effect of Nicotine, smoking history, and changes in smoking habits during the COVID-19 pandemic on stress in smokers. Methods We conducted an online survey among active smokers in one of the villages in the South Lampung district, Indonesia November 2020 (n = 150). The survey includes sex, marital status, age of smoking initiation, duration as a smoker, changes in smoking frequency, questionnaire for nicotine dependence (the Fagerstrom Test for Nicotine Dependence questionnaire) and The Perceived Stress Scale (PSS). Data were analyzed with Chi-square<0.05). Results The results showed that the PSS score had a significant association with changes in smoking frequency (p=0.004) and nicotine dependence (p=0.001). Conclusions The study concluded that variations in nicotine dependence and changing smoking habits impacted perceived stress in smokers during the pandemic. There is a significant relationship between age at starting to smoke, number of cigarettes per day, duration of smoking habits, degree of smoking habits, and changes in smoking habits with stress levels in smokers in the COVID-19 pandemic era, and there is no relationship between types of cigarettes consumed, and stress levels in smokers in COVID-19 pandemic era.

Abstract

Background Bacteria and fungi that enter through the body get intermediaries from the condition of hands that are not washed clean. Alcohol-based antiseptics are usually used for quick and effective hand washing, but repeated use can cause irritation and dryness of the hands. Natural components can be processed to make non-alcoholic substitutes, such as liquid smoke from palm oil's outer shell (Elais guineensis Jacq). It is known that liquid smoke contains antibacterial phenolic chemicals. Methods This research design is true experimental by testing the effectiveness of palm oil outer shell liquid smoke as an antiseptic, which is carried out in vitro using inhibitory tests and in vivo using palm swabs of respondents by looking at the effects before and after use. In vitro results formed the largest inhibition zone size using grade 2 liquid smoke with a concentration of 75%, with an inhibition zone size of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 of 15.6 mm; Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 of 5.8 mm; Candida albicans ATCC 10231 of 3.3 mm; and Aspergillus flavus ATCC 9643 of 33.3 mm. Results In vivo, results obtained through the respondent's palm swab showed an average value of 89.84% decrease in bacterial colonies and a 77% decrease in fungal colonies after using liquid smoke antiseptic. The results of the organoleptic assessment showed that 92% of respondents liked the color, 75%  liked the smell, 75% felt that it did not cause dryness, and 92% felt that there were no side effects of use. Conclusions The liquid smoke of the outer shell of palm oil has the potential as an antiseptic.

Abstract

Background Diabetic people have a 2-3 times higher risk of tuberculosis than non-diabetic people. Immunocompromised conditions due to diabetes increase the risk of therapeutic failure and delayed sputum conversion, which may cause by poor glycemic control. This study was conducted to determine the glycemic control effect on AFB conversion in diabetic patients with tuberculosis. Methods A cross-sectional study has been conducted on 100 diabetic patients with the new emergence of pulmonary tuberculosis. All patients were in intensive phase treatment of tuberculosis for two months at Bhayangkara R. Said Sukanto's Hospital. Data collected from medical records were random blood glucose level, percentage of random blood glucose decrement, HbA1C, and the microscopic AFB sputum smear. Fisher exact test analysis was conducted to determine the effect of random blood glucose level, percentage of blood glucose decrement and HbA1C to AFB smear results using SPSS V25.0 software for Windows with a significance level of 0.05. Results The analysis between glycemic control and AFB sputum smear conversion using random blood glucose, percentage of random blood glucose decrement and HbA1C showed a p-value of 0.000, indicating a significant relationship (p<0.05), so it showed that glycemic control affects AFB sputum smear conversion. Conclusions A significant relationship exists between glycemic control and AFB-negative conversion in patients with DM and TB. RBG showed the best sensitivity and specificity as a glycemic control parameter compared to others.

Abstract

Zoonoses are a group of diseases that can be transmitted to humans by non-human vertebrate animals. The source of zoonoses is a large number of domesticated and wild animals. Causes of zoonoses include viruses, bacteria, parasites, and fungi. Initially, it was stated that COVID-19 was caused by the novel coronavirus 2019 (nCoV-2019), then WHO stated that the name that caused COVID-19 was severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Although COVID-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2 has been classified as a zoonotic disease, no animal reservoir has been found, so the classification is premature. The proposed term for COVID-19 is classified as an “emerging infectious disease (EID) of probable animal origin.” Transmission of COVID-19 is exclusively in the form of human-human transmission, so it is not in accordance with the zoonotic definition of WHO.

Abstract

Background Breastfeeding is vital for the health of both mothers and infants. However, only 51.5% of infants under six months are exclusively breastfed in Indonesia. Research has consistently demonstrated the positive impact of engaging fathers in breastfeeding programs, leading to improved breastfeeding outcomes. However, lactation education activities for fathers in Indonesia are limited. By measuring the impact of the intervention on fathers' health literacy and self-efficacy, this research aims to contribute to enhancing breastfeeding practices and support in Indonesia. Methods This quasi-experimental study aimed to evaluate the impact of online lactation classes on breastfeeding health literacy and fathers' self-efficacy. Participants (N=35) were randomly assigned to the treatment or control group, and pre-and post-tests were conducted. The intervention group received two-day online lactation education via Zoom, while the control group received a breastfeeding e-poster on WhatsApp. Data analysis involved univariate analysis for variable characterization and bivariate analysis using statistical tests such as Paired Sample T-Test, Wilcoxon, and Mann-Whitney tests, with a significance level of p<0.05. Results The study's findings demonstrate the efficacy of the online lactation classes in the intervention group compared to the control group, as evidenced by significant improvements in fathers' health literacy (p=0.035) and self-efficacy (p=0.005) in supporting exclusive breastfeeding by their wives. Conclusions The research found that online breastfeeding classes for fathers positively affect their health literacy and self-efficacy in supporting breastfeeding. This approach was more effective than electronic posters via a WhatsApp group in increasing health literacy, but the signs positively affected fathers' self-confidence.
