Abstract

The use of experimental animals is widely conducted in the medical field, both for research on the processes of disease occurrence (pathogenesis), the causes of disease (etiology), and research on therapy. Therefore, it is important to understand how euthanasia in experimental animals affects the integrity of the sample and its influence on research results. This article was compiled from several literature sources searched from Google Schoolar and PubMed published within the last 10 years, with keywords such as "code of ethics in experimental animals", "methods of euthanasia in experimental animals", "overdose anesthesia methods in animal euthanasia", "barbiturate injection methods in rats", "inhalation methods in animal euthanasia", "biochemical effects of euthanasia", and "histological effects of euthanasia". This paper discusses euthanasia methods, namely overdose anesthesia, inhalation, and injection. This paper aims to discuss how the method of euthanasia and the choice of drugs can impact the biochemical and histological changes in animals after the euthanasia process. Choosing the right euthanasia method is essential, as the species of animals involved and the research goals are considered. Using methods that align with the biological characteristics and behavior of the animals can help ensure the success of the research while also considering ethical aspects and animal welfare.

Abstract

Hypertension which is commonly referred to as a silent killer because it can cause death but is often asymptomatic is still a global problem. The incidence rate is high, but the patient's awareness is low so the disease gets worse with severe and even fatal complications such as heart disease and stroke. The high prevalence of hypertension mainly occurs in low- and middle-income countries which may be related to the level of education and knowledge about this disease. Purpose: This PkM aims to determine the extent of knowledge about hypertension, and provide knowledge/education about this disease. The method used is distributing questionnaires to assess the level of knowledge about hypertension, as well as providing counseling and health checks to increase knowledge about this disease. The results of this PkM activity show that the knowledge of Kali Anyar village cadres about hypertension is quite good, and the incidence of hypertension is 34.5% close to the national prevalence of 34.1%. Education about hypertension is expected to have a good effect on reducing the prevalence of hypertension and its complications because the better the level of knowledge about hypertension, the lower the incidence of hypertension.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Ozone therapy, namely High Dose Ozone Therapy (HDO), has become a versatile medical treatment in several clinical settings. Although it is becoming more well acknowledged, there is still a lack of extensive evidence about the impact of this on hematological and biochemical indicators. This study seeks to address this void by examining the consequences of this phenomenon in a clinical environment.Method: An observational study was done, which followed a structured approach, comprising a total of 100 patients who were selected from the SMC Clinic. Hematological and biochemical indices were evaluated before and after ozone therapy sessions to analyze blood parameters. Two blood samples were obtained at two specific time points: prior to the commencement of the ozone therapy (T0) and after the therapy was finished (T1).Results: Substantial alterations were noted in both hematological and biochemical parameters after the therapy. The hematological changes observed in this study showed a substantial rise in the red blood cell count (p=0.009), hemoglobin levels (p=0.004), and hematocrit (p=0.039), along with a decrease in erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) (p=0.020). Notable biochemical changes were observed, including significant modifications in total plasma protein (TPP) (p=0.008) and lactate levels (p=0.001). Furthermore, there was a noteworthy decrease (p<0.05) in the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), which is a marker for oxidative stress. Conclusion: HDO exerts a regulatory influence on crucial hematological, biochemical, and oxidative stress factors. These findings indicate that HDO may have therapeutic benefits for treating chronic disorders and cancer. It can improve blood parameters and reduce oxidative stress. The decrease in markers of oxidative stress, such as MDA, suggests a potential reduction in the likelihood of problems associated with oxidative damage in chronic diseases. Nevertheless, additional research is required to validate these findings, investigate their wider therapeutic implications, and comprehend the long-term consequences and safety of HDO therapy.
