Abstract

Emotional Intelligence is highly necessary aspect that covers students’ ability to use their emotion effectively in the learning process. Good Emotional Intelligence provides the students with appropriate ability which can help them take the best decision for their future. The lack of Emotional Intelligence often makes students feel stressed and depressed. It leads the students to destructive behaviors such as uncontrolable anger, lack of decision-making ability, and despair. Therefore, the students need to be trained to recognize, control, and develop their Emotional Intelligence in a positive way. This research is a library research, which is done by searching, reading, studying, and analyzing the content of related books and various supporting literature. Based on the research, it is concluded that school plays an important role to provide a professional counselor who can help the students improve their Emotional Intellligence effectively. The counselor is expected to have various approaches in developing student Emotional Intellegence, one of which is Humanistic and Existential Approach. This approach covers essential concepts the students have as human beings, such as what they are meant to be and what potentials they have. Through this approach, a school counselor can help students understand more about managing and controlling emotion in a positive way.

Abstract

Aggressive behaviour is one of the problems which have a negative impact on adolescents, especially on their development process. This study aims to determine the extent to which students' aggressive behaviour is predictable by gender and domicile origin. The participants of this study were a total of 2681 Indonesian teenagers aged 14-20 years, that anonymously and voluntarily filled out this instrument. The instrument used was the AF Aggressive Behaviour Instrument Scale (AFABIS), which has been tested for validity and reliability with a significance of 0.08. Furthermore, data testing was carried out using network psychometrics and Rasch analysis. The results from the network psychometrics analysis showed that there was a good structure of participants in terms of gender and domicile origin (city, suburban, rural) and a significant difference in aggressive behaviour as seen from the sparsity that was raised. The results showed that male adolescents tend to show more aggressive behaviour compared to females. Furthermore, it showed that the tendency of displaying aggressive behaviour by adolescents in rural areas is more tenuous compared to those in suburbs of cities and cities. These results may be used as initial data by counselors for psychological intervention on aggressive behaviour featured by adolescents.

Abstract

This study intends to determine the occurrence of insomnia and the habit of taking multivitamins against learning stress among students during the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic. Data were obtained in two times from 308 students in East Jakarta, Indonesia, applying a descriptive quantitative approach through the Rasch Model and inferential statistics via the Bayesian Anova. The result showed that the use of multivitamins and the existence of insomnia have been proved to be linked to the incident of stress among students during the early periods of the pandemic. Although the use of multivitamins is helpful to minimize stress, students consuming this commodity are likely to experience by stress up to 40 times higher than those that experience in insomnia. This condition becomes higher assuming the students, in addition to having insomnia, are also not accustomed to receiving multivitamins. The implications of this study, including considerations for better investigation of this issue, have been discussed and concluded.

Abstract

The need to have a capacity to remain hardy despite stress and adversity, particularly in young adult groups, is an essential thing to address. However, to our knowledge, reliable and valid scales to measure the construct is still lacking, particularly in Indonesia. Thus, it encourages the development and validation of the Multidimensional Hardiness Inventory for Young Adults (MHIYA) in Indonesia to measure this capacity. MHIYA was developed through a comprehensive review of literature and a content validity testing process. The data from 326 participants aged 18-40 years old were analyzed using confirmatory factor analyses with a structural equation modelling approach. The final validated MHIYA consists of 18 items loading on three dimensions: commitment, control, and challenge. Cronbach’s α ranged between 0.780 and 0.902 in each dimension indicating high internal consistency reliability for each dimension of the MHIYA. The result from item discrimination analysis indicates that all items in MHIYA could distinguish individuals with high and low levels of hardiness. Therefore, MHIYA is a valid and reliable scale for measuring hardiness among young adults in Indonesia.

Abstract

This research examines the Konseling Intensif dan Progresif yang Adaptif terhadap Struktur counseling model (KIPAS) based on Indonesia's archipelago. In English, this means Intensive and Progressive Counseling Adaptive to Structure. The model constitutes good news (Kabar gembira), data integration and Internalization (Integrasi dan internalisasi data), action planning (Perencanaan tindakan), plan actualization (Aktualisasi rencana), and celebration or certification (Selebrasi/Sertifikasi). Together, these steps form an acronym of KIPAS, a counseling model whose steps should be tested empirically to describe the users’ expectations or ratings. Data were collected using a satisfaction scale and analyzed in a descriptive percentage. The results show that the KIPAS steps are applicable, with user ratings ranging from very feasible to quite feasible.

Abstract

Aim: In our study, we aimed to determine the frequency of functional constipation in children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders by child and adolescent psychiatry and mental health.Materials and Methods: Between September 2017 and September 2018, children with autism spectrum disorder who applied to BakırköySadiKonuk Education and Research Hospital Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic were evaluated by means of childhood autism rating scale (CARS). A total of 108 patients were evaluated with the Roman IV criteria and the frequency of functional constipation was investigated. Results: A total of 108 cases, 87% (n = 94) male and 13% (n = 14) female, were studied. The ages of the patients were between 2 and 15 years and the mean age was 6.89 ± 2.76. Organic constipation was not detected in patients with constipation and all of them were diagnosed as functional constipation. There was no statistically significant difference between the rates of functional constipation in cases according to gender. The incidence of functional constipation in males was significantly higher in patients with severe autism than in those with mild to moderate autism. “Two or fewer defecations in the toilet per week” criteria was found significantly higher in girls than in boys. No significant difference was found for the other five criteria according to gender. Each of the six criteria of the Rome IV criteria were found to be significantly higher in patients with severe autism than those with mild to moderate autism according to CARS scores. One of the Roman IV criteria, “History of large diameter stools that may obstruct the toilet” was found significantly higher in patients aged nine years and older. No significant correlation was found between the other criteria and age groups. Conclusion: All of the six criteria of the Roman IV criteria were significantly higher in cases with severe autism according to CARS, compared to those with mild to moderate autism.
