Abstract

This research is aimed at improving the ability of students’ mathematical understanding through REACT strategy. This research method is a quasi-experimental study with the non randomized study design pretest-posttest control group design. Samples were students of class X of one vocational school in Tasikmalaya. The instruments used were pretest and posttest ability of students’ mathematical understanding. The data were analyzed quantitatively. The results showed that: (1) students who obtain learning through REACT strategy had significantly better improvement than students who received conventional learning (2) Students who earn learning with REACT strategy shows there is a difference compared with students who received conventional learning to be reviewed on the level of high, medium, and low (3) students who earn learning with REACT strategy by category ability of students to the ability of students’ mathematical understanding is better than conventional learning. This means REACT strategy can improve comprehension.

Abstract

This study aims to compare mathematical problem-solving ability among learners who learned with problem-based learning model (PBL) and problem-solving. The study also aims to determine the thinking process of learners in the problem-solving. The study was using an experimental method. The population was all students of class VIII SMP Negeri 13 Kota Tasikmalaya. The samples were selected two classes by cluster random sampling, first class (VIII-E) was learned by using PBL model and second class (VIII-J) was learned by using problem-solving. Data collection techniques use mathematical problem-solving tests. The data were analyzed by t-test of two difference means. The study concludes that the mathematical problem-solving ability of learners who learned with PBL model better than that learned with a problem-solving model. The conceptual thinking process in the PBL class was owned by high-ability learners, while in the problem-solving class was owned by high and middle-ability learners. The semi-conceptual thinking process of the PBL class was owned by moderate and low-ability learners, while the problem-solving class was owned by moderate-ability learners. Computational thinking processes in PBL classes and problem-solving one were owned by low-ability learners.Keywords: problem-based learning (PBL), problem-solving, mathematical problem-solving ability, thinking process.

Abstract

This study aims to describe generally about the effects of using Trimino Mathematical Model of Cooperative Learning on the results of mathematics, especially for the first grade students of SDN Tarai Bangun. The method used is to analyze and interpret experiments clearly about the conditions that exist in the field. The data collection techniques used were direct observation of the experiment as the subject of research. The results of this study can be concluded that learning through trimino mathematical model cause differences improvement of students’ mathematics learning outcomes significantly between the experimental class and control class. The attitude of the students based on the scale of attitudes about learning initiative, set a goal of learning, motivation, behavior (self), find and utilize relevant learning resources, evaluate the process and outcomes of learning. This is indicated positively by the opinion of students towards learning mathematics using mathematical trimino media.

Abstract

The purpose of this classroom action research is to know about learning activity and to improve the learning result of class V student’s learning on GCD and LCM subject in SD Negeri 2 Bone-Bone through the application of the problem-solving approach. This research is carried out in the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Instruments used in the form of Tests, to measure the level of achievement of learning outcomes conducted by students and observation sheets, to determine the increase in student and teacher activity. The target of learning mastery is 75%. The result data showed that the improvement of learning outcomes is reflected from the achievement of KKM in the initial test of 36%, increasing in the first cycle to 72%, and increasing in the second cycle to 88%. There is an increase in student activity from the first cycle of 65% (active enough) to 90% (very active) in the second cycle. There is an increase in teacher activity from the first cycle of 71.11% (good) to 93.33% (excellent) in the second cycle. Based on the results of the study concluded that the application of problem-solving approach in learning can improve student learning outcomes and activities of students and teachers in learning mathematics.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the thinking process of students in solving geometric problems based on Van Hiele's theory in terms of gender. The subjects in this study were 6th grade VII students in one of the public MTs in Pangandaran Regency, which consisted of 3 male and 3 female students, each of whom was capable of high, medium and low. The method used is qualitative research. Data collection techniques were carried out by test and interview methods. The results showed that in terms of gender high-ability male students are at level 2 (informal deduction), male students are capable of being at level 1 (analysis), while low-ability male students are at level 0 (visualization). The female students with high and moderate abilities are at level 1 (analysis), and low-ability female students are at level 0 (visualization). Keywords: Thinking process, geometry, van Hiele's theory, gender

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out the improvement of students’ mathematical communication ability through learning model of reciprocal teaching at class VII-B Of SMP Negeri 2 Bonegunu. This research was a classroom action research. The population in this research was all grade VII students of SMP Negeri 2 Bonegunu as many as 63 students and the sample was class VII-B students of SMP Negeri 2 Bonegunu whose number was 31 students. The instruments of this research were an observation sheet and a test of students’ mathematical communication ability. Based on the research outcome. It obtained the score of teacher’s activity was 88.24% and students’ activity was 70,58% which was implemented. At cycle II, the teacher’s acthivity which was implemented was 97,06% and students’ activity was 91,18%. The result of students’ mathematical communication ability indicated that there was not any student who got a score of ≥65. The test result at cycle I Indicated that students’ mathematical communication ability was 70,97% (22 students) got a score of ≥ 65 with the mean score was 70,84. The result of posttest at cycle II indicated that students whose score ≥ 65 were 26 students (88,87%) with the mean score were 77,87. Of those result, it was obtained the conclusion that students’ mathematical communication ability at class VII-B of SMP Negeri 2 Bonegunu could be improved by apllying the reciprocal teaching model.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the ability of better problem solving of mathematics between classes that use the learning model of brain-based learning and the class using direct instruction learning model and to know the difference of mathematical problem solving ability from the category of early mathematical ability (high, medium, and low) As well as to find out the mean student self-efficacy higher between the two classes. This research is a quasi-experimental research with Post-test Only Control Group Design. The study population is all students of class VII MTs Negeri 2 Ciamis academic year 2016/2017. Selection of sample using purposive sampling technique which result is class VII D as a group that learn with a model of brain-based learning and class VIIE as a class which learn with direct instruction model. To get data result of research in the form of problem-solving ability score used an instrument in the form of description problem while to measure self-efficacy of student used questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using Mann-Whitney test, t-test and 2-way ANOVA test. The results showed: (1) the problem-solving ability of mathematics students using learning model of brain-based learning better than students using direct instruction model. (2) viewed from the ability of early mathematical (KAM) there is the difference of problem-solving ability of student mathematics learning using a model of brain-based learning by using direct instruction model. (3) there is no interaction between learning and KAM on students’ mathematical problem-solving abilities. (4) the average self-efficacy of students in the class who are learning with the higher brain-based learning model than those using the direct instruction model and both are positive.

Abstract

This research aims to test the effectiveness of mathematics learning with the problem based learning and the conventional learning in junior high School (SMP) to improve the skills of mathematical literacy. The research uses the Quasi experiment method, with the design of the non-equivalent control group Pretest-Posttest. This study used two groups, one group as an experimental group that received the treatment of problem-based learning and one other group as a control group that received conventional learning treatment. The subject of this study was 64 students in two classes VIII at SMP Negeri 2 Magelang. The instrument used is a description test to measure the ability of students ' mathematical literacy. A large calculation of mathematical literacy skills is improved using the normalized gain equation g. The results showed that mathematics learning using problem-based learning can improve students' mathematical literacy skills. In addition, the research also concluded that there were no significant differences in the enhancement of the mathematical literacy skills of good students using both problem based learning and conventional learning. In experimental groups and control groups there is an increase in medium.Keywords: problem based learning; mathematical literacy

Abstract

ABSTRAK This research was conducted to describe the implementation of supervision  of mathematics academic conducted by principal of elementary school in mathematics subject. This is done to review realistically about the implementation of supervision  academic. This supervision is essentially to foster teachers in improving the quality of the learning process. This descriptive research was conducted on the Head of Primary School at UPT Education and Culture of Ciawi Sub-district of Tasikmalaya Regency. Based on the results of the research indicates that the implementation of academic supervision on mathematics subjects in Ciawi District Elementary School runs quite well but has not shown optimal results in terms of learning planning, learning implementation plan, classroom learning implementation, findings of observations and problems found has not been fully inventoried.
