Abstract

This study aims to investigate Indonesian teachers' perspectives of translation or first language used in ELT classrooms as well as to find out the teachers' strategies on how to incorporate translation as their pedagogical tool. This research is applied in a case study methodology, in which the researcher interviewed three English teachers in Indonesia to explore their perspectives. The raw data was analysed by using thematic analysis to find the emerging themes of the interview data which led to the result of this qualitative research. The result of the finding indicates that the teachers mostly have positive perceptions about TILT (translation in language teaching). Most participants believed that when translation use selectively, it can help students with foreign language learning, promote students' metalinguistic awareness, function as a thinking tool, mediate social interaction, and function as social mediation. Additionally, the strategies of TILT applied by the teachers in this study entail explaining difficult concepts and grammar, avoiding chunks of word translation, and nurturing students critical thinking and problem-solving skills. It is suggested that if translation is integrated into language teaching, it should be used selectively as a pedagogical tool to support students learning.

Abstract

Education is a conscious and planned effort to create an atmosphere of learning and learning process so students actively develop their potential. The development of information technology has led to the emergence of various learning model innovations in the world of education. Innovative learning models themselves emerge as alternative solutions to overcome various obstacles in traditional methods. One application of information technology in education is the development of e-learning. Therefore, the researchers offer an alternative to the limitations of learning resources so that it is more interesting for students to learn the material taught by using e-learning based on video tutorials needed in taking a computer-aided fashion design course. This research is an experimental research with a quantitative approach. The sampling technique used in this study is Stratified random sampling. Data collection techniques consist of: (1) tests; (2) interview; (3) observation; (4) questionnaire or questionnaire; and (5) documentary films. The results of the study concluded that the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor learning outcomes of students who used the hybrid learning model were significantly higher than students who used the direct learning model.

Abstract

This study was conducted to find out the description of the implementation of total quality management (TQM) of curriculum field in Khadijah Senior High School by paying attention to: (a) the process of disseminating the integrated quality standards in the curriculum, (b) the process of establishing an integrated quality assurance standard in the curriculum, (c) the implementation process and fulfillment of integrated quality standards in the curriculum, and (d) the process of monitoring and evaluating the assurance of integrated quality standards in the curriculum. The method used is qualitative research because it aims to obtain in-depth data and information, so that the goal to know the implementation process of integrated quality assurance in the curriculum can be achieved. This research used case study type. A research that uses this type of case study will uncover the phenomenon that exists by collecting and using as many data as possible about the thing under study. Researchers used this type of case study because they want to investigate and uncover cases effectively; then, they present them systematically. The subjects in this study were the Principal as a stakeholder who set the quality guidelines in Khadijah Senior High School Surabaya, the Deputy Principals in particular in the field of curriculum who participated in the process of setting the quality guidelines for Khadijah Senior High School, the school committee, the Quality Assurance Unit, the teachers as the executor and the student's parents as a service customer. This research was conducted in the odd semester of the 2019-2020. Data collection techniques used observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique used in this study was an interactive analysis model consisting of three components, namely data condensation, data triangulation, data presentation and conclusion making. The conclusion of this study states that each stage of total quality management (TQM) implemented in the curriculum field runs well because of the smooth coordination between the curriculum team, UPM and teachers as the spearhead of learning implementation.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the effect of Inquiry Learning Model and Scientific Literacy toward students Critical Thinking Skills in Primary School. This Study was Conducted at SD Islam Al-Ikhwan Tangerang in Fifth Graders. The True Experiment Method with Two Way Anava design (treatment by level 2x2) was implemented in this study. 40 students as the sample was selected by simple random sampling. Students in experimental group were learned through Inkuiri Mandiri model. Meanwhile, in control group, students were learned through Guided Inquiry. Based on data analysis, it was obtained: (1) the students critical thinking skills given by Inkuiri Mandiri Model is higher than Guided Inquiry, as evidenced by Fcount (10.93) > Ftable (4.10 ); (2) there is influence of interaction between learning models and scientific literacy toward students critical thinking skills, this can be seen from the acquisition price of Fcount (58.926) > Ftable (4.10); (3) students critical thinking skills given Inkuiri mandiri Model is higher than Guided Inquiry in group of students with high scientific literacy, with the Tukey-test Qcount Test (10.986) > Qtable (4.33); and (4) students critical thinking skills given Inkuiri Mandiri Model is lower than Guided Inquiry in group of students who have low scientific literacy, with the Tukey-test Qcount Test (4.369) > Qtable (4.33).
