Abstract

This study aims to describe how embodied experience is presented in novels written by blind Indonesian authors. The scope of the study is focused on the embodied experiences of blind characters in the novels Mata Kedua (2013) and Dunia Tanpa Cahaya (2015) by Ramaditya Adikara, as well as the novel Nafas Sang Pekat (2014) by Nabiel Ghali Azumi. The research employs a qualitative approach using a phenomenological textual analysis method. The analysis is grounded in Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s concepts of the lived body, perception, and being-in-the-world. The data consist of narratives, dialogues, and monologues that represent the bodily experiences of blind characters as they interact with the world, space, and themselves. The findings reveal that embodied experience in these novels is articulated through three main forms: the presence of the world in multisensory perception, spatial orientation through the body, and self-understanding within embodied experience. The findings demonstrate that their world remains present and meaningful through sounds, aromas, touch, and other sensory experiences. Furthermore, the body functions as a center of orientation that enables the subject to inhabit space and establish relations with the environment. Blindness is depicted as a different way of perceiving, living, and making sense of reality. These findings offer an alternative perspective to ableist views that tend to define human ability solely on the basis of visual capacity.

Abstract

The casual remark by President Prabowo Subianto regarding the economic resilience of rural communities against dollar fluctuations in Nganjuk may at first appear to be an ordinary spontaneous statement. However, when examined through Teun A. van Dijk’s socio-cognitive Critical Discourse Analysis, the statement actually contains a structured populist rhetorical strategy aimed at shaping mass psychology and reducing economic panic at the grassroots level. This qualitative study explores the linguistic structure of the speech based on media documentation from Kompas.com and DetikNews during the May–June 2026 period, and the findings are formulated as a practical instrument for critical literacy in Indonesian language education. Structurally, the text employs a deductive-populist approach that connects the success of regional diplomacy with the strengthening of domestic food and energy resilience. Through simple sentence construction and strategic meaning grouping, the impact of the global crisis on rural areas is obscured. Cognitively, a relaxed and humorous speaking style is used to build the image of a down-to-earth leader while also reducing economic anxiety. In context, this rhetoric emerged amid the weakening of the rupiah and functioned as a means of easing public panic. Interestingly, this informal political text circulating on social media shows strong potential to be developed into contextual teaching material. Transforming the analytical results into a classroom guide can train students to critically examine causal reasoning behind everyday texts, while also shifting language instruction away from rigid memorization of theories.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to improve the descriptive text writing skills of seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 9 Bengkulu Tengah using picture media. The low ability of students in developing ideas, describing objects, and composing coherent texts became the basis for conducting this study. This study used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental method and a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research subjects consisted of 26 seventh grade students selected through a total sampling technique. Data were obtained through descriptive text writing tests at the pretest and posttest stages. Data analysis techniques used included descriptive statistics to describe student learning outcomes, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test to test data distribution, a paired t-test to determine differences in results before and after treatment, and N-Gain calculations to measure the level of improvement in students' overall abilities. The results showed that the average score increased from 67.96 in the pretest to 80.50 in the posttest, with a percentage increase of 18.47%. The results of the paired test showed a significance value <0.001, which means there was a significant difference between before and after the use of picture media. Furthermore, the N-Gain value of 0.39 is in the moderate category. The implications of this study indicate that images can be used as an effective learning medium to improve descriptive text writing skills because they can help students develop ideas, understand objects concretely, and compose texts in a more structured manner in Indonesian language learning.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of oral literature containing local wisdom that are still preserved within the Sambas community and to examine their role in strengthening literacy in schools. The research employed a qualitative descriptive method with an exploratory approach. The data sources consisted of oral traditions of the Sambas Malay community that are still practiced in social, cultural, and religious activities. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed using an interactive analysis model involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through source triangulation, prolonged engagement, and reference adequacy. The findings reveal seventeen forms of oral literature containing local wisdom, namely miare, bepallam, mulang-mulangkan, ngamping, bepappas, besiak, antar ajong, antar pinang, antar pakatan, besaprah, besurong, belalek, tuang minyak, mandek belulus, serakalan, saroan or panggelan, and bemeteng. These traditions embody religious values, mutual cooperation, responsibility, social solidarity, respect for customs, and cultural preservation. Such values are highly relevant to the development of smart literacy and character education in schools, as they can be integrated into local wisdom-based learning. The utilization of oral literature as a learning resource not only enriches students’ cultural knowledge but also fosters awareness of preserving local cultural heritage as part of national identity.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the hidden curriculum in Indonesian language learning as an effort to strengthen students' character at Kharisma Bangsa Junior and Senior High School, Pondok Cabe, South Tangerang. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving Indonesian language teachers and students at the junior and senior high school levels. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data were obtained from Indonesian language learning activities, group sharing programs, one on one mentoring, and school culture that supports students' character development. The findings reveal that the hidden curriculum is implemented through classroom discussions, literacy activities, teacher role modeling, individual mentoring, and parental involvement. These practices contribute to fostering students' discipline, responsibility, cooperation, empathy, self-confidence, and mutual respect. The findings indicate that Indonesian language learning not only functions to develop language competence but also serves as an effective medium for strengthening students' character education.
