Abstract

This study aims to map trends and innovations in creative writing over the past decade through a systematic literature review approach enriched with bibliometric analysis. Data were obtained from 41 international publications analyzed using the Publish or Perish and VOSviewer software, providing a comprehensive overview of publication patterns, dominant keywords, and researcher collaboration networks. The findings reveal a significant increase in the number of publications on digital-based creative writing from 2010 to 2025, with major themes including creative writing, creativity, digital storytelling, pedagogy, and the integration of artificial intelligence. Keyword analysis indicates the presence of diverse research clusters, although most remain fragmented and not fully interconnected, thus offering opportunities for further exploration of less addressed topics such as digital literary genres or assessment among peers. In addition, author mapping shows the dominance of several key figures, although cross-country collaboration is still relatively limited. These findings highlight a paradigm shift in creative writing from conventional models to digital and collaborative approaches supported by technology, as well as the importance of developing new pedagogical strategies relevant to 21st-century literacy needs. Therefore, this research makes a significant contribution to the development of creative writing studies in the global and digital era.

Abstract

This research aims to uncover the forms of deconstruction of gender roles and the search for women's existential freedom in the novel Re: and peRempuan by Maman Suherman through Simone de Beauvoir's existentialist feminist approach and deconstruction theory. Using a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach through a close reading technique on data in the form of narratives and dialogues representing women's positions, roles, and consciousness in patriarchal systems. This research aims to uncover how Re: and peRempuan display, critique, and/or redesign gender roles, both at the level of discourse and subjective experience. The results of the study show that the novels Re: and peRempuan not only depict women's suffering in a patriarchal social system, but also present a form of resistance and identity negotiation carried out by women. Maman Suherman deconstructs binary oppositions such as holy and unclean and feminine to show that these meanings are unstable.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the symbolic structure and cosmological meanings embedded in the healing mantras of the Dayak Seberuang community in Gernis Jaya Village, Sepauk District, Sintang Regency. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method using the semiotic framework of Charles Sanders Peirce, focusing on the classification of signs into icons, indexes, and symbols. The data consist of eleven healing mantras recited by ritual practitioners and were analyzed through stages of sign identification, semiotic classification, meaning interpretation, and cultural contextualization. The findings reveal that the mantras function not merely as healing formulas but as a cosmological representation system that perceives illness as a disruption in the relationship between humans, spirits, and nature. Dominant symbols include the representation of spirits (antU), the concept of “tawar” as a marker of healing, the color black, sacred numbers, and medicinal plants such as muŋah and buŋkaŋ. Within Peirce’s framework, plants and herbal elements function as icons, symptoms of illness as indexes, and lexical terms such as pederak, sawan, and datai dara/bujaŋ as culturally constructed symbols. The study contributes to the development of semiotic analysis based on the icon–index–symbol classification in the study of Dayak oral literature and integrates textual and anthropological approaches in understanding mantras as cultural sign systems grounded in local wisdom.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the narrative structure of Lelaki Harimau by Eka Kurniawan, focusing on the division of episodes, mythemes, and binary oppositions among characters. The main focus of this research is the application of Claude Lévi-Strauss’s structuralism to analyze the supernatural mythological element of the white tiger inhabiting the human body and its relationship to the social and cultural realities depicted in the novel. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach using library research techniques, including close reading, data documentation, and interpretation based on episodes, mythemes, and binary oppositions. The findings indicate that the novel is structured into several episodes that portray Margio’s journey from the emergence of the white tiger to his process of redemption. Each episode contains interconnected mythemes and patterns of binary opposition, forming a structure of resistance against injustice and the social pressures experienced by the protagonist. The white tiger symbol functions as a mythological figure representing resistance, inner strength, and an inherited moral burden.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the representation of patriarchal ideology in the Mata Najwa episode Enaknya Jadi Laki-Laki using Sara Mills’ critical discourse analysis model. The scope of the research focuses on two analytic elements, namely subject–object positioning and lexical choices within the speakers’ dialogue. This descriptive qualitative study uses a full transcript of the YouTube episode as its primary data. The analysis shows that men are consistently positioned as agents with authority and freedom, while women appear as objects of moral, domestic, and social evaluation. A key finding of this study is the presence of linguistic empathy that appears protective toward women but ultimately reinforces restrictions and normalizes inequality. Lexical items such as “melindungi”, “kodrat”, and “motherhood penalty” function as ideological tools that maintain gender hierarchy. The study concludes that language in talk shows not only conveys opinion but also reconstructs power relations that privilege men and disadvantage women.

Abstract

This study, entitled Metaphors of Women in the Novel Jatiswara by Lalu Agus Fathurrahman, is based on the view that literature serves as both a cultural reflection and a medium for constructing values, including the representation of women. Jatiswara was selected because it presents rich symbolizations of women within the cultural context of the Sasak community. The purpose of this research is to describe the forms of women’s metaphors and to reveal the representation of Sasak women’s feminism in the text. The study employs a qualitative method using Lakoff and Johnson’s conceptual metaphor theory and the feminist concepts of the good woman and the new woman. The findings indicate three main categories of women’s metaphors: structural, ontological, and orientational. The representation of Sasak women’s feminism demonstrates ambivalence—women are portrayed as good women, who are noble and moral guardians, and as new women, who are critical, independent, and progressive). This research contributes to the development of conceptual metaphor studies and local feminism within Indonesian literary scholarship.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the personality of Datuk Ida Gurnadi as portrayed in the folklore of Singorojo Village, Jepara Regency, and its relevance to character education. The folklore analyzed is derived from the book Cerita Rakyat Pesisir Timur written by Mohammad Kanzannudin (2023), which presents the life journey of Ida Gurnadi as an important figure in the formation of Singorojo Village. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method with a literary studies approach. The data consist of narrative elements, events, and characters’ actions that reflect the personality of Datuk Ida Gurnadi, which are analyzed through data reduction, classification, and interpretation. The findings reveal that Datuk Ida Gurnadi exhibits religiousness, responsibility, and courage as core personality traits, reflected in his attitudes and social roles within the community. These values are relevant to character education and can be integrated into Indonesian language and literature learning, particularly through the use of folklore as contextual teaching material. The implications of this study indicate that folklore can serve as an effective learning medium for instilling character values while enhancing students’ literary appreciation and understanding of local culture.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the implementation of the Constructivist-Based Visual-Creative Learning Model using visual text media in short story writing, and to examine its impact on students' writing quality. The scope is limited to the analysis of the learning process and the evaluation of short story results from 30 11th-grade students at MA Riyadhul Ulum. The method employed is descriptive evaluative, based on Constructivism theory and the Project Based Learning (PjBL) Model. Data were analyzed through Performance Tests (Writing Test) assessed using a rubric (four aspects of writing quality) and converted to percentages based on Nurgiyantoro's criteria (2013). The findings indicate that visual text media provided a significantly positive impact. All students (100%) achieved the Good (B) to Excellent (A) category, with 73% of students reaching the Excellent category (A). The interesting fact is that the visual media (sequential images and interesting video) effectively served as an imagination stimulant and a "story guide," successfully addressing writer's block and strengthening narrative structure. Visual text media is recommended as a core strategy for short story learning.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the extent of kinship between the Sundanese and Minangkabau languages through a comparative historical linguistic approach. The scope of the study focuses on the analysis of basic vocabulary using a list of 200 Swadesh words. The method applied is a quantitative approach using lexicostatistical and glottochronological techniques to measure the percentage of cognates and estimate the time of separation of the two languages from a similar proto-language. The research data was obtained from credible lexical sources and compared based on similarities in form, phonemic variations, sound correspondence, and empty glosses. The results of the study show that the Sundanese and Minangkabau languages have a kinship level of 79%, placing them in the same language stock. Glottochronological analysis shows that the two languages are estimated to have diverged around 3,423–4,015 years ago, or around 1398–1990 BC. These findings indicate that the two languages originated from a single proto-language in the Western Austronesian language family and underwent regular phonological changes throughout their historical development.

Abstract

This study aims to address low learning motivation and the lack of variety in teaching resources for poetry material at SMA Negeri 1 Sandai through the development of flipbook-based learning media. This study used the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The research subjects included six expert validators, one Indonesian language teacher, and 28 grade XI students as product users. Data collection was conducted using interviews and questionnaires, then analyzed descriptively and quantitatively. The results showed that the developed flipbook product obtained a validity score of 93.66% (very valid) and a practicality score of 93.79% (very practical). Furthermore, the product effectiveness test validated a significant increase in students' cognitive learning outcomes with an average Normalized Gain (N-Gain) score of 0.62 (moderate category). These empirical findings indicate that the integration of audio-visual elements in flipbooks is effective in visualizing abstract poetry concepts into concrete ones and maintaining student learning motivation. The implications of this study recommend the use of interactive media as an alternative solution for literature learning in the digital era.
