Abstract

This article analyzes the psychological immaturity of the characters Lana and Reno in the novel Dream Partner by Nda Quilla through a literary psychology approach. The analysis applies the psychoanalytic theory of Sigmund Freud to examine the personality structures of the id, ego, and superego as represented in the characters’ dialogue, narration, and actions, using a descriptive qualitative method with reading and note-taking techniques applied to relevant textual data. The findings reveal an imbalance in the personality structure, marked by the dominance of the id in impulsive behavior and unstable emotions, a weak ego in adapting to the realities of marriage, and a developing superego that functions as moral pressure, generating guilt and anxiety. These conditions are influenced by age, emotional experience, premarital pregnancy, as well as social and economic pressures. This study broadens the scope of literary psychology by positioning Dream Partner as an object of psychoanalytic analysis to examine the relationship between disharmony in personality structure and the dynamics of domestic conflict, offering a new perspective on character formation and development in contemporary popular fiction through Freud’s structural theory of personality.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the form, function, and meaning of slang used in digital interactions on the Twitter account @tanyarlfess. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a listening and note-taking technique. Data were analyzed through three stages, namely form analysis (acronyms, foreign language absorption, and phonetic puns), function analysis, and meaning analysis based on literal, connotative, and symbolic categories. The results show that slang on the account emerged through a process of linguistic creativity, such as shortening words, absorbing English terms that have undergone expanded meaning, and phonetic modifications for the sake of expression. Functionally, slang is used as a means of self-expression, forming closeness between users, and marking the identity of the digital generation group. The number of data found was 12 data. In addition, the use of slang also shows the dynamics of meaning that is not only literal, but also contains emotional and symbolic values ​​that represent online communication culture. Thus, slang on social media does not only play a role as a variation of language, but also as a social phenomenon that reflects the interaction patterns, identity, and culture of digital media users.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the use of affixation and reduplication in the language of public service health advertisements on the Instagram account of the Bangkalan Regency Health Office. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed. Data collection was carried out through an observation technique, in which the researchers closely examined public service advertisement posts on the official Instagram account of the Bangkalan Regency Health Office, then recorded words, phrases, or sentences containing affixation and reduplication processes onto data cards. The collected data were analyzed through three stages: identification of affixation and reduplication forms, classification based on morphological process types, and description of their linguistic functions in constructing persuasive messages. The findings show that affixation—in the forms of prefixes, suffixes, and confixes—is highly dominant in expressing meanings related to actions, processes, and states associated with disease prevention efforts. Conversely, reduplication is absent from the data, confirming that health advertisement language prioritizes clarity and directness. These findings imply that advertisement designers need to strategically consider morphological choices to make health messages more communicative, easily understood, and effective in influencing public awareness and healthy living behaviors.

Abstract

This study looks at how using the group investigation cooperative model, along with making vlogs, affects students’ ability to speak about news texts in Grade XI at SMA Negeri 1 Pagaden. The focus is on how this approach improves students’ confidence, fluency, and vocabulary when they speak out loud. A quasi-experimental design within a quantitative framework was used in this research, with each group consisting of 34 students. The data includes scores from before and after the intervention, N-Gain analysis, and a Mann-Whitney test. The results show that the experimental group improved a lot, with their average score going up from 43.91 to 70.94, and an N-Gain of 0.48, which is considered moderate. The control group had an average posttest score of 58.79 with an N-Gain of 0.24, which is low. The Mann-Whitney test showed a very small significance value of 0.000, which is less than 0.05, meaning there was a significant difference between the two groups. These results show that using the vlog-based group investigation model helps students improve their speaking skills in news texts through working together and practicing creative presentations.

Abstract

This study looks at how using the 5E learning cycle along with video media affects the article writing skills of eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Pagaden. It focuses on students' ability to create relevant content, organize their writing, use proper spelling and punctuation, apply good language features, and make clear sentences. The research uses a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental setup, involving 68 students split into two groups: one that used the 5E cycle with videos and a control group that didn't. Students were tested by writing articles, and their scores were compared before and after the intervention. The experimental group's scores went up from an average of 34.73 in the pretest to 76.61 in the posttest, while the control group's scores increased from 34.88 to 53.23. The experimental group had an N-Gain score of 0.64, which is considered moderate, compared to the control group's 0.28, which is low. A T-Test showed a very revealing that the difference between the two groups is statistically significant, with a p-value of 0.000. These results suggest that using the 5E learning cycle with video media helps improve students' writing performance by making them more involved, better at organizing their ideas, and more accurate with language.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the role of parenting styles and YouTube media on language acquisition in three-year-old children. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method. The subjects in this study were two three-year-old children, consisting of one boy and one girl with different parenting styles. The data in this study consisted of the utterances and responses produced by both children during their daily interactions and when accessing YouTube media. The data collection techniques applied in this study included participatory and non-participatory observation, recording, and language comprehension tests. The results of the study show that children's language acquisition is characterized by sound substitution, phoneme deletion, and simplification of word structure. However, their language comprehension skills developed well. Responsive parenting plays an important role in supporting language development, while YouTube becomes an additional source of linguistic input with parental guidance.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the denotative and connotative meanings in three popular Indonesian songs, namely "Lesung Pipi" by Raim Laode, "Penjaga Hati" by Nadhif Basalamah, and "Kupu-Kupu" by Tiara Andini, and explain their relevance to Indonesian language learning in the argumentative text material in the sub-chapter of listening and finding song messages at the junior high school level. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a semantic approach. The research data are song lyrics that are selected purposively based on their popularity, depth of meaning, and their closeness to the lives of teenagers. The analysis is carried out by identifying the elements of denotative and connotative meaning in each lyric, then interpreting the moral messages and values ​​contained therein. The results show that the three songs have a tendency towards the theme of admiring in silence, which is expressed through poetic diction, natural symbols, and metaphors. The denotative meaning in the lyrics describes concrete events, while the connotative meaning strengthens the emotional message and moral values ​​such as sincerity, patience, and loyalty. These findings have significant pedagogical relevance, as semantic analysis of popular songs can be utilized as a contextual, engaging, and meaningful learning strategy to train students' critical thinking skills and language appreciation in understanding song messages in accordance with the principles of the Independent Curriculum.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the basic concepts of sociolinguistics with a focus on the phenomenon of code switching and code mixing, as well as its causative factors in the novel About You by Visya Nabila. The approach used is a qualitative descriptive method with samples in the form of dialogue excerpts between characters. The data collection technique is carried out through document analysis or content analysis. The results of the study show that code switching appears in two types, namely internal and external code switching, with the switch from Indonesian to English. Meanwhile, code mixing occurs through the insertion of English elements in the form of words, phrases, and clauses in the character's speech. Factors that cause code switching include speakers, counter-speakers, changes in the situation due to the presence of a third person, change of topics, desire to look modern, and the creation of humor. The factors that cause code mixing are related to the attitude of the speaker and the linguistic background they have. In addition, the results of this study show that the study of code transfer and code mixing in literary works can contribute to the development of sociolinguistic science, especially in understanding the dynamics of language use in multilingual societies, and can be used as a reference in learning Indonesian language and literature to understand the social function of language, cultural identity, and the development of bilingual communication in modern literary works.

Abstract

Unlike traditional metaphors that function as figurative language, conceptual metaphor serves to illustrate how humans, both collectively and individually, think about their everyday experiences, including their relationship with nature. Descriptive qualitative approach with observation and note-taking techniques, as well as image schemas analysis (Croft & Cruse, 2004) was applied to examine metaphorical headlines and news content from mass media such as Tempo, Merdeka, Suara Indonesia, and Antara News in early 2025. The analysis of five key metaphorical phrases; menggantungkan periuknya (hanging one’s pot), Brantas sekarat (Brantas dying), bumi sakit (sick earth), roda ekonomi (wheel of economy), and gunungan plastik (mountain of plastic) reveals distinct image schemas. The data suggested that different image schemas appeared from each mass media is to represent human experiences in relation to nature while simultaneously conveying criticism of ongoing ecological conditions. In line with previous studies, metaphors function not only as poetic imagination or the rhetorical flourish but also as cognitive tools that shape public understanding of environmental issues, reinforce narrative impact, and deliver critical messages in an implicit manner.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the formation of Sonja's character in the novel Kelab Dalam Swalayan by Abi Ardianda through a review of literary psychology. The analysis in this study uses Skinner's behaviorism theory to determine the formation of Sonja's character. The method used is descriptive qualitative with reading techniques, note-taking techniques, and literature studies. These techniques include reading, listening, recording data, and analyzing quotes and dialogues in the novel. The results of the study show that the formation of Sonja's character is influenced by internal stimuli (family). External stimuli occur because the presence of Nohan (her future husband) changes Sonja's mindset and behavior in controlling past trauma. Second, character formation is influenced by responses to family stimuli. Sonja prefers to be silent because her mother has full control in the family. Meanwhile, responses to environmental stimuli in the form of the influence of others change behavior to become easily influenced. The results of this study can be used as teaching materials for literary learning related to character traits that are dynamic and influenced by various factors. In addition, it can be integrated with the learning of character values ​​in schools.
