Abstract

This study aims to analyze the social dynamics in the preservation of the Incung script among the Kerinci community in Jambi Province amidst cultural changes and modernization, as well as explore the strategies employed by the community and local institutions to ensure its sustainability. The research method used is a qualitative approach with data collection techniques including in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis related to cultural preservation policies. The findings indicate that although customary communities and local educational institutions still teach the Incung script, the declining interest among the younger generation is attributed to the dominance of the Latin script and the development of digital technology. However, various preservation efforts have been implemented, such as teaching the Incung script in schools, creating digital fonts, and integrating it into batik art and local cultural products. This study contributes to the understanding of the preservation of traditional scripts in the context of modernization and provides insights for the development of more relevant cultural policies for younger generations.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the underlying aspects of child marriage in Indonesia. The method employed in this study is a narrative literature review. The data sources were drawn from the Web of Science (WoS) database, consisting of journal articles discussing child marriage in Indonesia from 2008 to 2023. Among the 11 documents analyzed, the topic of child marriage was most frequently published between 2018 and 2023. The researchers also reviewed the research methodologies used, revealing that qualitative approaches were predominantly chosen to analyze this topic. The findings indicate six factors driving child marriage in Indonesia: socio-cultural, economic, educational, health, religious, and familial factors. This study contributes to understanding the causes of child marriage in Indonesia from a sociological perspective. Through this literature review, the study provides a solid foundation for examining the relationships among these factors in future research on child marriage.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the first movement of the Piano Concerto in F-Sharp Minor by Paul Johan Seelig, focusing on the relationship between Western classical music and the music of the Dutch East Indies during the 1910s–1930s through Édouard Glissant’s concept of rhizomatic identity. The research employs a qualitative method with data collection techniques, including archival studies and literature reviews. Analysis was conducted using Paul Ricoeur’s hermeneutic approach, encompassing the study of the work’s background, structure, and appropriation in a broader context. The findings reveal that the first movement of the Piano Concerto in F-Sharp Minor reflects a hybrid cultural identity that integrates Western classical music idioms with local musical elements from the Dutch East Indies, such as the adaptation of the Lagoe Soenda melody into patterns resembling gamelan. This transformation reflects a respect for local culture rooted in Nusantara traditions while simultaneously reinterpreting it within the framework of Western classical music. The work not only represents artistic dynamics but also serves as a socio-cultural document illustrating power relations and intercultural dialogue in the colonial context. Seelig highlighted local themes to bridge cultural gaps, showcasing the potential of local music as a medium equal to Western musical traditions. The study’s findings reveal that cultural identity in Seelig’s work is not static but emerges as the dynamic interaction between two distinct traditions. This approach contrasts with other colonial composers, such as Claude Debussy, who tended to adopt aesthetic impressions without retaining local themes. This research contributes to expanding the understanding of socio-cultural relations through colonial music and underscores the significance of music as a medium that can represent social dynamics, identity, and power during the colonial era. Beyond its theoretical contributions, the study offers a new perspective on hybrid music and cultural appropriation. This approach is relevant for fostering awareness of the importance of intercultural dialogue in the arts while demonstrating how music can serve as a tool for bridging cultural differences and transcending colonial hierarchies.

Abstract

This study aims to map trends and identify key issues in the literature on digital social movements and political participation of the millennial generation in Indonesia, a topic that requires a deeper understanding in line with technological developments and socio-political dynamics. Quantitative bibliometric analysis was used to analyze scientific publication data indexed in Scopus. The data collection technique involved downloading bibliographic data in CSV format from Scopus, with filters for the publication period 2014-2024, article document type, and relevant keywords. The collected data was then analyzed using VOSviewer, Biblioshiny, and RStudio software for network visualization, co-occurrence analysis, and publication trend mapping. The results showed consistent annual publication growth on this topic, indicating increasing interest and relevance of the issue of digital social movements and millennial political participation. The three most dominant and interrelated keywords are social movement, youth, and political participation, highlighting the central role of young people in contemporary socio-political dynamics. Further analysis identified nationalism, election, and popular protest as concepts that have the potential to be the focus of further research, especially in the context of the use of social media by the millennial generation. This research contributes to the development of literature on social movements in the digital era, especially in the Indonesian context. These findings provide new insights into the relationship between digital media and millennial political participation and offer practical implications for developing strategies for empowering young people in modern democracies.

Abstract

This study examines solutions to address gadget addiction among children and adolescents in rural areas through traditional games characteristic of North Sumatra Province, such as Rimau Langkat, kite flying, stick fighting, and marbles. The research was conducted in Perlis Village, Berandan Barat District, Langkat Regency, North Sumatra Province. The research method used is qualitative, through participatory observation, interviews, and documentation study. The findings show that children and adolescents in the village have begun to be affected by gadget addiction, although not all of them are influenced by gadgets. The study in Perlis Village shows that they successfully overcame gadget addiction through traditional games, which managed to divert their attention from excessive gadget use. Traditional games like Rimau Langkat, kite flying, stick fighting, and marbles not only succeeded in reducing gadget dependence but also improved physical skills, social interaction, and a sense of togetherness among children. The phenomenon of gadget addiction, which initially led to decreased participation in social activities such as communal prayers and religious studies, now shows a positive change as children begin to interact directly and engage more actively in outdoor activities. This study refutes the argument that children and adolescents today are difficult to separate from gadgets, as they are considered part of their development and culture. This study concludes that children and adolescents can still be saved from the dangers of gadget addiction and that the local wisdom of rural communities can address the negative impacts of modernity, even though they do not reject it.

Abstract

This study aims to explain the implementation of the Keputusan Direktur Jenderal Bimbingan Masyarakat Islam (Kepdirjen Bimas Islam) Number 137 of 2023 regarding the establishment of Kampung Moderasi to prevent religious conflict polarization. The research examines several Kampung Moderasi cases in West Java, particularly in the cities of Bandung and Tasikmalaya, which have implemented this policy. Kampung Moderasi aims to create a harmonious and tolerant environment in society by promoting the values of religious moderation. Using a qualitative approach, this study employs interviews, direct observation, and document review methods. The findings show that Bandung, Kampung Moderasi in Cibadak, Babakan Ciparay, and Sukawarna have made significant initiatives in strengthening interfaith relations through interfaith dialogue, educational programs, and social activities. Meanwhile, in Tasikmalaya, Kampung Moderasi in Nagarawangi and Empangsari have also made similar efforts to strengthen social cohesion and prevent conflict by developing inclusive, religion-based communities. However, despite the positive outcomes of this policy's implementation, several challenges remain, such as limited resources and the lack of participation from some segments of society. This study concludes that Kepdirjen Bimas Islam Number 137 of 2023 is effective in preventing religious conflict polarization, but there needs to be greater support from local governments, religious institutions, and society to enhance participation and ensure the sustainability of the program. The future implementation of this policy requires strengthened cooperation among stakeholders and more intensive monitoring.

Abstract

Street children are a social phenomenon that is often found in various areas in the city of Bandung. Typically children enjoy playing, but they spend most of their time on the streets to earn money, which should have been the duty and obligation of their parents. The qualitative research method describes the problem by collecting data directly through interviews and observation. The purpose of this study is to find out the background and reality of life that street children go through and to find out about the factors that cause them to take to the streets to earn money. The results obtained in the field show that the presence of street children is driven by the exploitation of their children by parents. In reality, parents use their children to make money on the streets of Pasir Koja, either by begging or singing. Basically, the age of these children is still very young, this is what parents take advantage of, because young children will more easily get people's attention to give them money.
