Abstract

This study investigates the challenges faced by English teachers in implementing differentiated learning and explores students’ perceptions toward this approach in class XI at SMAN 5 Tana Toraja. Using a qualitative method, data were gathered through classroom observations and interviews with English teachers. The findings reveal that while differentiated strategies, such as group learning, multimedia, and task variations, improve student engagement and comfort, several barriers persist. These include time constraints, large class sizes, and diverse student abilities. Nonetheless, both teachers and students acknowledged the benefits of adapting teaching styles to meet students’ varied needs. The study recommends continuous innovation and teacher support to enhance Differentiated learningin English language classrooms

Abstract

Abstract contains a brief description of the problem and research objectives, The purpose of this study is to find types the taboo words are very often used by students who play online games in the 7th semester English education study program of UKI Toraja. Data were collected using a questionnaire distributed to 6 7th semester English education students who play online games. This research used quantitative methods then the results of the research were analyzed descriptively. The results found several taboo words that were very often used by students who play games. 2 is the category of curse taboo words, 1 blasphemy, 2 obscenity and 1 name calling and insulting. The cursing category taboo words that were very often used are “fuck and damn” then the blasphemy category taboo word that were very often used is “oh my god” then the obscenity category taboo word that were very often used is “shit and motherfucker” and the category taboo word calling names and insults that are often used is “nigger”. The conclusion of this study found that there are 6 taboo words that are often used by UKI Toraja English education students, namely “fuck”, “damn”, “oh my god”, “shit”, “motherfucker”, and “nigger”.

Abstract

English is a crucial international la nguage, and mastering its four core skills speaking, writing, reading, and listening is essential for learners. This study focuses on the reading skill, specifically students’ mastery of descriptive texts, which play a vital role in vocabulary expansion and grammatical understanding. Conducted at SMP Kristen Makale, this quantitative research investigates the ability of seventh-grade students to identify the generic structure and language features of descriptive texts. Data were collected via a multiple-choice test administered to 30 students, assessing comprehension of text components and grammar, such as the simple present tense, adjectives, and linking verbs. Results reveal that only 10% of students achieved a very good mastery level, while the majority exhibited fair to poor understanding. The findings indicate significant challenges in grasping key linguistic elements, suggesting the need for more interactive and focused instructional strategies. This study underscores the importance of tailored teaching approaches to improve students’ descriptive text comprehension, contributing to their overall English language proficiency.

Abstract

This study explores the challenges faced by an English teacher at SMP Negeri 1 Bonggakaradeng, a rural junior high school in Tana Toraja, Indonesia, and the strategies employed to overcome them. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through classroom observations and semi-structured interviews. Findings reveal that teaching English in this context is hindered by students’ limited vocabulary, low motivation, diverse learning needs, scarce resources, and limited exposure to English outside the classroom. In response, the teacher applied adaptive strategies such as differentiated instruction based on student interests, the integration of visual and multimedia tools, and game-based learning. Although innovative methods improved student engagement and language acquisition, challenges like time constraints in producing learning media remained. The study highlights the need for systemic support, including professional development and access to educational technology, to enhance teaching effectiveness and bridge rural-urban disparities in English education.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of Instagram Reels on English language learning among students of the English Department at Universitas Kristen Indonesia Toraja (UKI Toraja). Recognizing the growing role of digital media in education, the research aimed to explore how students perceive and utilize short video content as a learning tool. A qualitative research design was employed, with participants selected through purposive and snowball sampling to ensure that those interviewed had direct experience engaging with Instagram Reels for learning purposes. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, which provided detailed insights into students’ experiences, preferences, and reflections on the use of Reels in supporting their English learning. The findings revealed that students frequently interacted with Reels that introduced new vocabulary, demonstrated correct pronunciation, and provided tips for everyday conversation. They emphasized that the short and visually appealing format of Reels made learning more enjoyable and easier to access compared to traditional learning resources. Many participants also noted that the use of humor, subtitles, and real-life contexts in the videos helped them better understand and retain language structures. In addition, students expressed that Reels played a role in boosting their confidence to practice speaking, as the content often provided authentic examples from native or fluent speakers. Despite these positive outcomes, students acknowledged that Instagram Reels should not replace formal instruction. They considered Reels a supplementary tool that supports, rather than substitutes, structured learning activities such as classroom discussions, lectures, and guided practice. The integration of Reels into a broader learning strategy was seen as most effective for enhancing both motivation and skill development. Based on these findings, the study recommends that educators consider integrating social media platforms like Instagram into language learning programs. Such integration has the potential to increase student engagement, foster independent learning, and improve overall learning outcomes.

Abstract

The urgency of this research is to find out what students' experiences are during the student exchange program. The purpose of this research is to find out the experience of students participating in student exchanges. The researcher conducted this research using qualitative methods. The purposive sampling strategy was used to obtain data from students of the English Education study program who had participated in the student exchange program. The data was obtained by interview technique. The findings show that experience starts from the preparation, selection, process, and evaluation. In the preparation stage, students seek information through various sources, such as social media. The selection stage involves online tests as well as administrative challenges that are solved with various strategies. The process stage included adaptation to the new environment, communication challenges, and culture shock, which were overcome in various ways, such as learning about the local culture and establishing interactions. Evaluations showed that the experience provided many benefits, including improved mindset, self-confidence, social relationships, academic experience, and greater cultural insight. Experience of students from preparation to evaluation is that students prepare themselves and follow the selection process well, go through a series of processes to find enormous benefits including opening mindsets and broadening their horizons, social interaction of students and can increase understanding of ethnic, religious, racial and cultural diversity. Although there are some challenges faced, students feel that their experience is very valuable and enriches their lives, both in terms of academic, social, and personal.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of the ARCS (Attention, Relevance, Confidence, Satisfaction) learning model on the literacy skills of fifth-grade students in Indonesian language learning, with learning motivation as a control variable. Employing a quasi-experimental approach with a pretest-posttest control group design, this research involved two groups: the experimental group taught using the ARCS model and the control group taught using conventional methods. A total of 56 students from SDN Parsanga II participated, equally divided between the two groups. Data collection instruments included literacy tests and learning motivation questionnaires. The findings reveal a significant difference in literacy skills between students taught using the ARCS model and those taught using conventional methods. Statistical analysis, including ANCOVA, showed that the ARCS model significantly improved literacy skills, with an F-value of 29.102 and p < 0.05. Furthermore, the R Squared value of 0.355 indicates that the ARCS model and learning motivation together accounted for 35.5% of the variability in literacy skills. The four stages of the ARCS model—Attention, Relevance, Confidence, and Satisfaction—were instrumental in enhancing students’ literacy. These stages effectively captured students' attention, linked learning materials to their lives, built confidence in tackling texts, and provided a satisfying learning experience. The study highlights the effectiveness and flexibility of the ARCS model in improving literacy skills in elementary education. By fostering motivation and creating meaningful learning experiences, the ARCS model serves as a promising solution to address literacy challenges in elementary schools, contributing to better academic outcomes.

Abstract

Kurangnya motivasi belajar peserta didik dalam pembelajaran PJOK dapat berdampak serius pada keterlibatan aktif siswa, pencapaian tujuan pembelajaran, serta perkembangan kompetensi jasmani secara optimal. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan karena rendahnya partisipasi aktif dan motivasi peserta didik kelas X SMAN 6 Surabaya dalam proses pembelajaran PJOK. Salah satu faktor penyebab utama adalah jadwal pembelajaran yang berlangsung pada jam ke-5 dan ke-6, di mana kondisi lapangan cukup panas dan tidak kondusif untuk kegiatan fisik.Penelitian dilaksanakan karena kurang aktifnya atau kurangnya motivasi peserta didik kelas X SMAN 6 Surabaya pada proses pembelajaran PJOK karena beberapa faktor Faktor tersebut salah satunya ialah dimana peserta didik kelas X pada saat mengikuti pempelajaran pada jam 5-6 hal tersebut pada saat kondisi lapangan yang cukup panas saat melaksanakan pembelajaran. Jenis pada penelitian ini yaitu Penelitian Tindakan Kelas dengan prosedur perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi, dan refleksi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini sendiri adalah upaya memperoleh informasi maupun data mengenai perkembangan motivasi belajar kelas X dengan mempratikkan permainan bola beracun disaat awal pembelajaran. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan selama 2 siklus dengan pengisian angket motivasi, serta wawancara. Kemudian setelah mendapatkan data tersebut peneliti menganalisis dengan prosentase secara kuantitatif deskriptif. Hasil yang diperoleh peneliti di siklus 1 dan 2 mendapatkan hasil yang diharapkan dimana adanya peningkatan motivasi peserta didik yang signifikan. Pada siklus 1 hasil angket mendapatkan rata-rata prosentase sebesar 42,44% dalam kategori kurang motivasi sementara pada siklus 2 hasil angket mendapatkan rata-rata prosentase sebesar 80,90% termasuk dalam kategori motivasi tinggi.

Abstract

Kemampuan menulis karangan merupakan salah satu kompetensi fundamental dalam pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia yang memerlukan pendekatan pedagogis yang tepat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis efektivitas implementasi metode Conference Writing dalam meningkatkan keterampilan menulis karangan peserta didik kelas V SDN 70 Lembong, Kabupaten Enrekang. Permasalahan utama yang diidentifikasi adalah rendahnya kemampuan peserta didik dalam mengorganisasikan ide, mengembangkan paragraf yang koheren, dan menggunakan kaidah kebahasaan yang tepat dalam menulis karangan. Metodologi penelitian menggunakan desain Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) dengan dua siklus implementasi. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari 12 peserta didik yang dipilih berdasarkan purposive sampling. Instrumen pengumpulan data meliputi lembar observasi aktivitas pembelajaran, rubrik penilaian keterampilan menulis yang terdiri dari lima aspek (isi karangan, struktur karangan, tata bahasa dan ejaan, kerapian tulisan, dan kreativitas), serta tes formatif hasil belajar. Analisis data dilakukan secara deskriptif kuantitatif dengan menghitung persentase peningkatan kemampuan menulis dan analisis kualitatif untuk mendeskripsikan proses pembelajaran. Indikator keberhasilan penelitian ditetapkan dengan target minimal rata-rata hasil belajar menulis karangan mencapai 80 dan ketuntasan belajar klasikal minimal 85%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan pada kemampuan menulis karangan peserta didik. Pada siklus I, rata-rata nilai keterampilan menulis mencapai 73,5 dengan ketuntasan belajar 67%. Pada siklus II, terjadi peningkatan menjadi 82,1 dengan ketuntasan belajar mencapai 92%. Implementasi metode Conference Writing terbukti efektif karena memberikan kesempatan bagi peserta didik untuk melakukan revisi bertahap, mendapat umpan balik konstruktif dari guru dan teman sebaya, serta mengembangkan kemampuan berpikir kritis dalam proses menulis.

Abstract

Kemampuan literasi digital yang baik diyakini mampu mendorong mahasiswa untuk memiliki sikap ingin tahu yang lebih tinggi, yang pada gilirannya dapat meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis sejauh mana literasi digital memengaruhi curiosity atau sikap rasa ingin tahu pada mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Agama Islam (PAI) di Institut Agama Islam Miftahul Ulum Tanjungpinang. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode korelasional. Populasi penelitian mencakup seluruh mahasiswa Pendidikan Agama Islam (PAI), dengan jumlah sampel sebanyak 72 orang yang dipilih secara total sampling. Data dikumpulkan melalui angket tertutup menggunakan skala Likert yang telah diuji validitas dan reliabilitasnya. Proses analisis dilakukan dengan bantuan SPSS versi 25, meliputi uji korelasi Pearson Product Moment dan uji koefisien determinasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat literasi digital mahasiswa berada dalam kategori baik dengan persentase 78,3%, sedangkan sikap curiosity mereka tergolong sangat baik dengan persentase sebesar 85,1%. Uji korelasi menghasilkan nilai r sebesar 0,524, yang menunjukkan hubungan positif dan cukup kuat antara kedua variabel. Nilai r-hitung lebih besar dibanding r-tabel pada taraf signifikansi 5% dan 1%, sehingga hipotesis alternatif diterima. Adapun koefisien determinasi sebesar 27,4% mengindikasikan bahwa kemampuan literasi digital memberikan kontribusi terhadap sikap rasa ingin tahu mahasiswa, sementara sisanya dipengaruhi oleh faktor lain di luar variabel penelitian. Temuan ini menegaskan pentingnya penguatan literasi digital dalam proses pendidikan untuk menumbuhkan semangat eksploratif mahasiswa
