Abstract

Abuse and overuse of antibiotics cause the increasing prevalence of antibiotic resistance. Doctors, nurses, midwives, and pharmacy professionals play an essential role in providing information and education on the use of antibiotics to the public. This study aims to compare and identify the factors that influence the knowledge and attitudes of students’ medicine, midwifery, pharmacy, and nursing toward antimicrobial resistance. An online crosssectional survey involving 530 medical, midwifery, pharmacy, and nursing students who are currently in the clinical or professional study stage. The Mann–Whitney U test and the Kruskal–Wallis test was run to assess differences in the mean scores of knowledges and attitudes. Factors related to knowledge and attitudes regarding antibiotic resistance were analyzed using linear regression. Most (93%) students have a good level of knowledge and have a positive attitude 49.81%, neutral 43.78%, and negative 6.41%. There was a relationship between age (p=0.012), major (p=0.000), source of information (p=0.013), and knowledge and attitudes about antibiotics (p<0.05). We conclude that there are differences in knowledge and attitudes toward antibiotic resistance among clinical-stage students of medicine, midwifery, pharmacy, and nursing. We found that essential knowledge and attitudes should be revised regarding antibiotic resistance.

Abstract

Regardless of the numerous reviews and publications on typhoid fever in the Philippines, it continues to be an issue regarding public health. Using data obtained from the Philippine Health Statistics (PHS), this study examined trends in typhoid fever mortality across an interval of six decades in the Philippines. The mortality and morbidity rates of typhoid fever were analyzed to discover trends of change for each year, age group, sex, and area. The Microsoft Excel software tool became used for all data analysis. The results show a decrease in typhoid fever fatality rates in the Philippines over the previous year. In terms of sex-specific deaths, males outnumbered females. The individuals aged 70 and older have the highest death rates when it comes to age-specific mortality rates. In the Philippines, Region I also has the highest mortality rate from typhoid fever. For instance, the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) has the lowest mortality rate from typhoid fever. The highest average morbidity rate is in the Cordillera administrative region (CAR), while the lowest is in Region IVB. To eliminate typhoid fever in the next few years and to completely combat typhoid fever throughout the years, educational campaign awareness or intimate knowledge must be conducted locally and globally.

Abstract

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, extensive restrictions were imposed on public facilities, including markets. Market traders and visitors were required to adhere with the health protocols government-established. This study's objective is to identify the factors influencing adherence with health protocols among traders. A cross-sectional survey was carried out in traditional and modern market located in Bogor Regency, Indonesia, from March to June 2022. The study encompassed all registered traders belonging to the traditional and modern market association. A total of 240 traders were chosen through a systematic random sampling method based on a hypothesis 2 test of population proportion. Primary data was gathered using a questionnaire and the research data were analyzed using binary logistic regression. In traditional markets, the majority of traders, about 65.0%, did not adhere with the health protocols, whereas in modern markets, approximately 71.7% of traders adhered to the protocols. The determinants of adherence to health protocols were knowledge (p=0.007; OR=3.311; 95% CI=1.395-7.857) in traditional markets and perceived susceptibility (p=0.001; OR=10.377; 95% CI=2.494-43.180) in modern markets. Knowledge and perceived susceptibility are determinant of market traders' adherence with health protocols. Enhanced adherence to health protocols can be achieved by boosting traders' understanding and awareness of COVID-19.

Abstract

Dental caries is the highest-frequency oral disease. The purpose of this study is to assess the risk of developing dental caries for groups of children aged three to six in the city of Varna, Bulgaria, taking into account clinical risk factors. The population of this study included 300 children aged 3 to 6 years. Hence, as many 30 children for the experimental and 30 children for the control groups were included in the study with saliva tests. After that, standardized means of decayed, filled surfaces (DFS) index was estimated. The teeth of the children in the experimental group were covered for three months with Clinpro™ White Varnish. The Research Ethics Committee at the MU-Varna University approved the study. We applied the Greene and Vermillion oral hygiene index. Biostatistics was conducted with a specialized package for statistical analyzes was used StatSoft, STATISTICA manual (Software system for data analysis STATISTICA 10.0, 2010. The results in our study show the strong influence of carbohydrate nutrition and poor oral hygiene on the development and progression of the caries process. The results of the study of the frequency of caries lesions on surfaces show a value of 6.35±0.65. Caries lesions on 1 and 2 surfaces predominate (23.75%). Almost 100% of the children in the control group had Streptococcus mutans and a high risk of caries. From the risk assessment results obtained for each child patient, individual prevention programs are prepared for children.

Abstract

Bay leaves (Syzygium polyanthum) contain the flavonoid quercetin which can be used as an antihyperlipidemic drug. The development of antihyperlipidemic drug formula in the form of fast disintegrating tablet (FDT) is needed for patients who experience dysphagia. FDT preparations require an optimal super disintegrant concentration to produce a good drug formula. This study aims to develop the FDT formula of bay leaves extract using the super disintegrant croscarmellose sodium (CCS) intra and extra-granular. FDT formulation using the wet granulation method with variations of CCS concentrations; F1: 2%, F2: 3.5%, and F3: 5% for extra granular, and 2% for intra granular. The formulation process, in-process control (IPC) granules, weight uniformity tests, and various physical properties tests of tablets were carried out. Data were statistically analyzed using one way ANOVA test (α=95%). The results of statistical tests of IPC granules, uniformity of weight, and tablet size of all FDT formulas were not significantly different (p>0.05). The CCS concentration for extra granular significantly affected the wetting time, disintegration time, hardness, and the value of friability percentage of FDT (p<0.05). The combination of intra and extra-granular CCS (2%:5%) gave the most optimum physical properties of bay leaf extract FDT.

Abstract

Good performance can be produced from a structured, systematic, and continuous training pattern. However, a lack of calorie intake during exercise will worsen the athlete's performance. Adequate and appropriate calorie intake can help athletes perform well. Eating habits will greatly affect the availability of calories in athletes. This literature review aims to describe the effects of caloric intake and eating habits of athletes from various literature. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) is the approach employed. The database is taken from Scopus, Science Direct, Web of Science (WOS), and Pubmed. 16 articles were analyzed through purpose, topic suitability, sample, research protocol, results, and discussion. The results of this literature review explain that athletes tend to experience less calorie intake caused by poor eating habits. Low knowledge of nutrition makes athletes practice wrong eating/dieting arrangements by relying on supplement intake to improve performance.

Abstract

Antenatal exercise is recommended for antenatal women for its numerous benefits. Despite knowing the advantages of exercise, most antenatal women are less active during pregnancy. It is vital to address women's knowledge, attitudes, and barriers facilitated by a behavioural theory while developing an intervention. This study’s objective is to assess the effectiveness of antenatal exercise intervention based on behavioural theory in facilitating exercise adherence among antenatal women in Kuala Selangor, Malaysia. This study enrolled 220 pregnant women from six primary health clinics in the sub-urban district in a two-arm, cluster randomised controlled trial. Data will be collected in three phases: before the intervention, immediately and one-month post-intervention. The primary outcome measure is antenatal women's adherence to exercise, which will be assessed via a self-reported Exercise Adherence Rating Scale questionnaire. The intervention in this protocol is designed based on the information, motivation and behavioral (IMB) model to facilitate antenatal women's adherence to antenatal exercise, promoting an active lifestyle and reducing maternal complications. The findings may contribute to developing a future intervention that will promote more active lifestyles during pregnancy, which would increase overall health-related quality of life.

Abstract

Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is still a health problem in Poso District. This can be seen from the high number of DHF cases and potential outbreaks from 2017 to 2018. The local government took the initiative to prevent DHF outbreaks in Poso Regency. The Central Sulawesi Provincial Health Office and the Poso Regency Health Office have implemented onehouse one-larvae observer program in the Poso Kota Selatan District area by engaging the local government and community. The implementation of the program and its accomplishments requires evaluation. This study aims to evaluate the one-house one-larvae observer program using input, process, output, and outcome indicators. The research adopts a descriptive-qualitative approach, employing observation and interviews within an evaluation research design. Data analysis was performed using interpretation and triangulation methods. Policy documents are available, and human resources supporting the program are in compliance with the decree. However, the budget for the program is insufficient, while the available infrastructure is sufficient. The process indicators demonstrate satisfactory progress. Based on outputs, there was an increase in achievement against the program target of the number of buildings inspected by house larvae observers over four years. The outcome indicator in the form of the larvae-free rate increased by >90% during one year of program implementation. The implementation of local innovations initiated by the Regency Health Office and stakeholders’ engagement has been proven to increase community participation in programs that impact the achievement of program outputs and outcomes.

Abstract

A free software for digital imaging and communications in medicine (DICOM) image anonymization is needed to protect patient information from third parties. This study aimed to develop a software for the anonymization of patient information in computed tomography (CT) image. There was a total of 17 informations to be anonymized, such as Patient’s Name, Other Patient Names, Patient’s ID, Patient’s Birth Date, Patient’s Sex, Patient’s Age, Study ID, Study Description, Series Description, Institution Name, Institution Adress, Referring Phisician’s Name, Consulting Physician’s Name, Performing Physician’s Name, Name of Physician(s) Reading Study, Operator’s Name, and Protocol Name. In every information, its initial value was replaced with a dummy value with the string value of "N/A". For testing, patient CT images from four different hospitals with different scanners were collected. It is found that each scanner had different information stored in DICOM information. However, the anonymization process in the four hospitals works well with accuracy of 100%. The developed software can anonymize DICOM images flexibly and successfully. This software can be used for anonymization of patient information in order to protect patient information.

Abstract

Human behavior, in dealing with pandemic, becomes one of the key factors during the speed of an outbreak. In this way, individual and social responsibility are needed to determine behaviors, end the pandemic, and anticipate for the next outbreak. The purpose of this systematic review is to provide structured information about the results of applying the theory of planned behavior (TPB) in concern to create COVID-19 preventive behavior (CPB) as the case example. This systematic review was compiled by searching articles using the keywords "theory of planned behavior"[MeSH] AND COVID-19 preventive behavior. ("theory of planned behavior"[MeSH]) AND "hand disinfection"[MeSH]. "Theory of planned behavior" AND "social distancing." "Theory of planned behavior" AND "wearing mask." The search was obtained from PUBMED and Google Scholar. The 13 articles met the requirements to be reviewed qualitatively on the implementation of TPB. The results showed that TPB was effective to bring about the prevention behavior of infectious disease, such as COVID-19. Other significant aspects are intentions, norms, and behavioral control. The TPB model can be applied for health promotion in creating prevention behavior of infectious disease.
