Abstract

Stunting is a problem of growth and development disorders in children which is related to nutritional problems in the world. In 2022, 21.6% of children aged under five years in Indonesia were stunted. Several factors influence stunting, including environmental (social), household factors, maternal and child factors. The aim of this study was to determine maternal risk factors for stunting in children aged 24 to 59 months. This research, with a case control study design, involved 191 participants (91 stunted children and 100 non-stunting children). The results found that maternal factors associated with stunting in children aged 24-59 months included maternal height (P<0.005, OR 2.025), birth spacing (P<0.005, OR 1.912), gestational age (P<0.005, OR 2.622), history of illness during pregnancy (P<0.005, OR 2.453), and consumption of iron tablets during pregnancy (P<0.001, OR 7.600). In the multivariate analysis, consumption of iron tablets and maternal height were the factors identified as being most related to the incidence of stunting in children aged 24-59 months.

Abstract

Chronic kidney failure is a chronic disease that requires treatment and hemodialysis therapy. Hemodialysis therapy has physical and psychological impacts on patients, such as stress. Patients who experience stress require management techniques such as lavender aromatherapy and deep breathing relaxation. The purpose of the study was to compare the effects of lavender aromatherapy and deep breathing relaxation on patients receiving hemodialysis who were experiencing the stress of chronic kidney failure. The study's quasi-experimental design includes two groups for the pretest and posttest. The 32 patients with chronic renal failure receiving hemodialysis made up the research sample; 16 of them participated in the lavender aromatherapy intervention and 16 were part of the deep breathing relaxation group. The research instrument used is the perceived stress scale (PSS) questionnaire. With a p-value of 0.000, data analysis employing an independent t-test reveals a difference between the deep breathing relaxation and lavender aromatherapy interventions on the stress of chronic renal failure patients receiving hemodialysis. Lavender aromatherapy and breathing relaxation can reduce stress in chronic kidney failure patients undergoing hemodialysis. Lavender aromatherapy reduces stress in chronic kidney failure patients more effectively than deep breathing relaxation. Lavender aromatherapy can be an alternative therapy to reduce stress while undergoing hemodialysis.

Abstract

Our society is undergoing digital change. Dealing with digital technologies has become a daily practice. Many healthcare facilities are implementing digital technologies. Nurses are placed in a strategic position to be the leader of the digital healthcare workforce. Nursing students are more exposed to this technological advancement as they are future professional nurses. This study aimed to examine how information-processing and exchanging skills in digital spaces affect digital problem-solving skills among nursing students. The Bayesian mindsponge framework (BMF) was used as a conceptual framework. This quantitative study utilized a cross-sectional design. The population was all nursing students in two private nursing institutions located in Bangkok, Thailand (n=476) and Surabaya, Indonesia (n=179). Samples were the total population. Self-developed instrument was used in data collection. Data analysis used BMF analytics. The majority were females aged 20-22 years old who use smartphones and tablets daily. The information-processing and information-exchanging skills in digital spaces were positively associated with digital problem-solving skills among nursing students (MInformationProcess=0.30 and SDInformationProcess=0.05; MInformationExchange=0.37, and SDInformationExchange=0.05). More efforts are needed to improve nursing students’ problem-solving skills by using digital content, for instance, by modifying the information-processing and information-exchanging skills in digital spaces. Collaborative learning methods should be promoted in order to support the creation of conducive environment for supporting knowledge or information-exchanging behavior among nursing students by using digital technology.

Abstract

Prenatal class programs for primigravidas are important to improve fetal care behavior and reduce infant mortality. In prenatal classes, there is no maternal-fetal attachment stimulation education program which is important for improving maternal-fetal attachment and fetal well-being. The perceptions of pregnant women and their husbands regarding knowledge and experience of pregnancy as well as maternal-fetal attachment (MFA) stimulation are important for assessing the need for MFA educational materials. The research aimed to examine the perceptions of primigravidas and their husbands regarding pregnancy and MFA stimulation. Exploratory descriptive qualitative study method. Data were collected using in-depth interviews with 10 primigravidas and their husbands at the Community Health Center in Bantul, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, using an interview guide. Data analysis by condensing data, presenting data, and drawing conclusions, verbatim results of interviews are presented in coding, found categories, and themes. Four themes were produced: knowledge of pregnancy and fetal growth and development; concept of maternal-fetal attachment skills; management of pregnancy emotional management; and husband's support. The conclusion of this theme's findings underlies the development of maternal-fetal attachment educational materials in prenatal classes to prepare mothers for their role, and improve MFA and maternal-fetal health.

Abstract

Pregnancy is a critical phase for human beings, which can lead to various mental health issues, including anxiety. It is important to recognize that pregnancy-related anxiety can increase over time and should be addressed. This study aimed to explore the multifactor of pregnancy-related anxiety during the first trimester. A cross-sectional health facility-based study was conducted in four Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia public health centers. A total of 129 pregnant women were involved and identified some exposures, such as socio-demographics, nausea and vomiting during pregnancy (NVP), emotion regulation, social support, and anxiety levels. The average age of participants was 27.3 years. Their anxiety level was moderate to severe (37.2%), and 62.8% were identified as having mild anxiety. This study suggests that pregnant women who lack social support (AOR=4.105; 1.824-9.237) and emotion dysregulation (AOR=2.749; 1.244-6.075) were identified as the risk factors of maternal anxiety during the first trimester. Being employed (AOR=0.410; 0.182-0.922) protects the high anxiety during pregnancy. This study suggests that the lack of social support, including social interaction most influences pregnant women’s mental well-being. Therefore, it may be helpful to establish an intervention plan that strengthens social support to improve maternal mental well-being.

Abstract

It was noted that the right to health care is a key topic of discussion around the world, and ensuring the realization of this right and the opportunity to access the necessary medical care is in the spotlight. The realization of the right to health care in each country directly depends on the national health policy. The analysis is focused on assessing the effectiveness of health care systems of states according to several models. The data for this study were obtained from the existing WHO database, which provides accumulated data for groups of countries. Thus, it was possible to compare different countries, whose state health statistics may have their own characteristics. For data processing, an input-oriented analysis model of a dynamic network data shell was used. The analysis combines the use of traditional and non-traditional methods for measuring health performance. The analysis shows that there are no pure health systems financing models, most states use mixed funding models. The only way to reduce dependence on direct payments is for the government to encourage the use of a prepayment and risk pooling approach.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic reminded people of the importance of proper handwashing. The degree of health risk perceptions and handwashing behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic opens essential lessons for delivering water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programs across the globe. We measured the relationship between COVID-19 risk perception and the handwashing behavior of 386 Filipinos in a highly urbanized city in the Philippines. Self-made COVID-19 risk perception scale (CRPS) (Cronbach's α 0.93) and handwashing behavior scale (HBS) (Cronbach's α 0.84) were administered face-to-face. The results show that the overall handwashing behavior has a median of 4.1 (frequently), while the interquartile range (IQR) is 0.5. Regression analysis revealed that COVID-19 risk perception has a significant positive association with overall handwashing behavior (B=0.369, p-value <0.05). The COVID-19 risk perception accounts for 36.9% of the variance in handwashing behavior, F (1, 384) =11.6360, p-value=0.0007. This study proposes that public health authorities target people's experiential learning style in designing and delivering intervention programs against non-compliance with proper handwashing.

Abstract

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic, systemic autoimmune disease which mainly manifests in the joints. Methotrexate (MTX) is a widely used pharmacological treatment for RA. To date, no prior research has investigated the effect of obesity on MTX treatment outcomes among RA patients in Indonesia. This research aimed to investigate the effect of obesity on MTX monotherapy failure in RA patients. We conducted a retrospective cohort study using medical records from the Rheumatology Clinic at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital from March 2017 to December 2021. Descriptive and estimation analyses were performed to assess the sample characteristics based on each variable and a logistic regression analysis was conducted to evaluate the association between obesity and MTX treatment failure. Out of 72 subjects, the proportion of MTX treatment failure was 57.1% (20/35) among obese patients and 37.8% (14/37) among non-obese patients. Obese subjects exhibited a 2.11-fold increased risk of MTX treatment failure compared to non-obese patients (OR 2.11; 95% CI 0.81-5.45). The number of joints involved was found to emerge as a confounding factor in this study. Our findings suggest that RA patients with obesity potentially have an increased risk of MTX treatment failure compared to non-obese RA patients.
