Abstract

The prevalence of anaemia among adolescent girls in Indonesia is 18.4%. One of the main indicator targets is reducing the prevalence of anaemia is in the form of iron-folic acid (IFA) supplementation for adolescent girls. The research aims to analyze knowledge of female youth on anaemia and management of iron-folic acid supplementation. This study used a cross-sectional design, and it was conducted in 24 senior high schools in Cianjur Regency (high stunting area) and Depok City (low stunting area). The total sample of this study was 243 female youth. The study began from September 2019 to February 2020 for the 1st term and continued from October 2022 to March 2023 for the 2nd term. The quantitative result showed that there was a significant difference in knowledge about the frequency of providing the iron-folic acid supplement (IFAS) at school and the duration in a year that students must consume the IFAS between high stunting and low stunting (p=0.000). A significant proportion of female youth, 67.5% in high stunting areas and 71.7% in low stunting areas, exhibit insufficient nutrition knowledge, underscoring the necessity for a nutrition education initiative targeting high school students. The qualitative results showed the input-process-output of the IFA program have been administered for the last few years, providing several constraints in order to improve the IFA program management. Based on those findings, the IFA supplementation program provides a potential chance for addressing anaemia in female youth.

Abstract

This meta–analysis examines the far–reaching effects of long COVID (LC), highlighting the need for welfare strategies emphasizing the Parity of Esteem. The analysis of clinical studies reveals the prevalence of LC across various demographic factors, including age, gender, infection type, and severity. The findings highlight persistent pulmonary impairments that result in post-COVID pulmonary fibrosis (PCPF), long-term cardiovascular symptoms, gastrointestinal issues, dermatological concerns, and neuropsychiatric outcomes. These effects continue beyond the acute phase of COVID-19, affecting both symptomatic and asymptomatic people. The study emphasizes that LC is not only a physical ailment but also has a significant impact on mental health, necessitating a holistic approach to healthcare. Psychological and emotional distress among LC patients necessitates empathetic support. This study concludes by emphasizing the significance of LC and advocating for data-driven healthcare policies and assistance programs to address the unique challenges encountered by COVID-19 survivors. For managing the long-term effects of LC on both physical and mental health, an unwavering commitment to parity of esteem is crucial.

Abstract

Maternal body fluids imbalance affects amniotic fluid, serum sodium-potassium, edema, and preeclampsia. Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) is a growth hormone and a regulator in sodium balance regulation. This study aimed to determine the correlation of IGF-1, zinc, calcium, and sodium with hydration status and the nutrients impact to IGF-1 based on hydration status of pregnant women at Kebon Jeruk Health-Center, West Jakarta. This cohort-prospective study was conducted in December 2016 to January 2018. A total of 66 pregnant women in the second trimester were examined. Urine color, urine specific gravity, serum sodium, serum osmolality and urine were used as hydration status indicators. Zn, Ca, Na, and IGF-1 levels as the growth indicator from mother to fetus. Pearson correlation test, independent t-test and linear regression were used in statistical analysis. There were no differences in IGF-1, Zn, Ca, and Na serum between the two groups (p³0.05). There was no relationship between Ca, Na and IGF-1 level (p³0.05). The regression results show a possitive relation that low zinc serum affect IGF-1 level in dehydrated pregnant women. Therefore, it is necessary for pregnant women to consume zinc-rich foods to increase IGF-1 level and keep hydration status with water consume 3.0 L per-day.

Abstract

Powered hauling equipment is one of the most critical operational elements in the mining sector. Haulage is a significant hazard for the mining industry, accounting for over half of all mining-related fatal accidents yearly. Identifying safety risk variables is the foundation of risk assessment and accident prevention. This study aimed to identify risk variables and prevention techniques to reduce occurrences among truck drivers in coal mining. This research approach is a scoping review with the PRISMA Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR). Thirty-five articles were reviewed based on the results of inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data analysis was performed using content analysis. The results show that human, environmental, machine and organizational factors contribute to the risk among truck drivers in coal mining. Safety culture, staffing and scheduling, training and education, policy and procedure implementation, and technology deployment are all part of the accident prevention plan. The central government should pay particular attention to the employment conditions of workers in cities with decreased resources and develop policies to prevent mining-related diseases in local communities.

Abstract

Village health volunteers (VHVs) were essential in handling during and post-coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This study aimed to develop the capacity enhancement model of VHVs in preventing COVID-19 in Thailand. The development process and data collection used 12 stakeholders and 55 VHVs, respectively. The research tools were focus group discussions and questionnaires. We employed descriptive and inferential statistics for quantitative and content analysis for qualitative data. The model development was implemented in 9 processes: i) study the situation, ii) brainstorm to analyze the problems, iii) set the guidelines for model development, iv) organize training, v) review of role-based skills, vi) conduct public relations, vii) observe and follow up, viii) evaluate the operation, and ix) reflect on the results and lessons learned. After the model was developed, knowledge, attitude, and behavior in preventing COVID-19 were significantly better than before their capacity was enhanced (p<0.001). The model named “NAMKHUN Model,” which consisted of N=working as a network; A=ability to use application; M=effective management; K=up-to-date knowledge; H=having health literacy; U=having unity; and N=fast, accurate and up-to-date News). The success factor from the lesson learned was teamwork, which complements up-to-date knowledge and will create desirable skills for dealing with emerging diseases in the future.

Abstract

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, face-to-face learning has been transformed into online learning. This phenomenon was really challenging for teachers because they were not used to it. The adaptability of the teacher becomes an indispensable aspect to face the problem. The ability to integrate materials, pedagogy and technology or technological pedagogical and content knowledge (TPACK) supported the adaptability in implementing online learning. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of TPACK on professional adaptability. A sample of 457 junior and senior high school teachers in Indonesia and Malaysia completed the technological pedagogical and content knowledge scale and the career adaptability scale. Based on partial least square analysis, this study found that TPACK played a role in predicting four dimensions of career adaptability: concern, control, curiosity, and confidence. This structural model was also supported with path analysis. Therefore, TPACK becomes an essential aspect in influencing teachers' career adaptability.

Abstract

Individual attributes, such as educational background, may influence the degree of health consideration in food consumption. The local social norms may affect the same consideration in the collective level. Represented by education level and the custom rules adherence in food choosing behavior, this study aimed to examine how knowledge influences health consideration in food consumption and how the local social norms moderate this association in a multicultural enriched society. By utilizing the Bayesian Mindsponge Framework (BMF) as a conceptual framework, this study analyzed a dataset of 710 urban residents in Indonesia. There was a negative association between education level and health consideration in food consumption in which the custom rules adherence in food choosing behavior moderated against this negative association. For those with a low level of custom-based food consumption, their health consideration is lower as they have higher education level. However, the opposite trend which is a more intuitive positive association was found in those who consume more custom-based food. Socio-cultural factors have a complex impact on food choosing behavior among Indonesian urban residents. Therefore, governmental policies in the health promotion campaign of healthy-nutritious food should incorporate socio-cultural aspects with a deeper understanding of the human mind’s information processing.

Abstract

Industrial noise is generally one of the risk factors for occupational and environmental safety and health. Noise is a risk factor for decreased hearing threshold value in addition to other factors such as age, working period. This study used a cross-sectional design that aimed to identify the hearing threshold level (HTL) of rice mill workers exposed to hazardous noise in Karanganyar Regency, and investigate the relationship with other factors such as age, tenure. Audiometric data from 92 participants were collected through audiometric examination by qualified personnel using an audiometer in a quiet environment. The test was conducted after the participants had rested completely for >14 hours after their last exposure to workplace noise. The results showed that all participants had worked in a noise-hazard work zone for >1 year. The participants' ages ranged from 28 to 57 years. The average hearing threshold in the right ear was 36.71 dB and the average hearing threshold in the left ear was 39.55 dB. The hearing loss associated with work experience was greater than that caused by noise intensity age. Noise intensity, age and working experience were significant to the workers' ear hearing threshold values. Multivariate test results show that noise intensity is the most influential factor (>60%) on HTL. HTL among industrial workers should be assessed regularly. At the health policy level, these workers need to start being protected when they start working.

Abstract

Adolescents with fathers who have schizophrenia are more likely to experience emotional dysregulation, negative decisions, a failure to form an identity, inconsistency in decision-making, and failure to adapt. This study is aimed to investigate the lived experiences of adolescents who live with a father who has schizophrenia in an urban area of Bandung City, West Java. The qualitative phenomenological approach was used in this study. In-depth interviews were conducted with six adolescent participants, aged 13 to 22, who live in Bandung City with a father diagnosed with schizophrenia. The Colaizzi method was then used to analyze the interview transcripts. Data analysis produced eight major themes: i) dealing with psychosocial problems and moral dilemmas, ii) a lack of closeness between father and children, iii) exposures to violence inside and outside the home, iv) getting the wisdom behind the catastrophe, v) changing roles and responsibilities, vi) a lack of social support, vii) difficulties to share personal issues, and viii) seeking to build a better future. The adolescents still have opportunities to continue building a better future. Improving health promotion and education programs to manage negative emotions and developing Self-Help Groups for adolescents whose fathers have schizophrenia is thus necessary.

Abstract

Community-based health protocols are essential strategies for prevention and control of COVID-19 and community participation is an essential contribution of communities during the pandemic. This study assessed community participation to COVID-19 prevention and control activities among barangays in a component city in northern Philippines. This descriptive-quantitative research was conducted in six barangays with the least and most COVID-19 cases in 2021. Barangay residents, officials and health workers were surveyed about community participation using five process indicators namely needs assessment, leadership, organization, resource mobilization and management. A high level of community participation towards COVID-19 prevention and control activities was seen in the barangays with leadership having the highest mean (4.23) and resource mobilization having the lowest mean (3.44). Leadership was significantly the same among all barangays while organization, management, needs assessment and resource mobilization significantly differed according to type of barangay, COVID-19 prevalence and population size. The researchers conclude that there is strong community participation of barangays towards COVID-19 prevention and control activities especially along leadership. However, the capacity of barangays to contribute, mobilize and distribute resources must be improved to maximize community prevention and control of COVID-19.
