Abstract

Powered hauling equipment is one of the most critical operational elements in the mining sector. Haulage is a significant hazard for the mining industry, accounting for over half of all mining-related fatal accidents yearly. Identifying safety risk variables is the foundation of risk assessment and accident prevention. This study aimed to identify risk variables and prevention techniques to reduce occurrences among truck drivers in coal mining. This research approach is a scoping review with the PRISMA Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR). Thirty-five articles were reviewed based on the results of inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data analysis was performed using content analysis. The results show that human, environmental, machine and organizational factors contribute to the risk among truck drivers in coal mining. Safety culture, staffing and scheduling, training and education, policy and procedure implementation, and technology deployment are all part of the accident prevention plan. The central government should pay particular attention to the employment conditions of workers in cities with decreased resources and develop policies to prevent mining-related diseases in local communities.

Abstract

Understanding reproductive health is an important issue for students with special needs as their specificity does not prevent the acquisition and comprehension including efforts to prevent sexual harassment. Descriptive cross-sectional design was used. The samples selected were 86 students in Indonesia which were 29 males and 57 females, consisting of 36% deaf (n=31), 50% mentally retarded (n=43), and 13.9% autistic (n=12). Data were collected with a questionnaire of 34 items which measured the understanding of reproductive processes, functions, and systems, as well as sexually transmitted diseases, attitudes about reproductive health, media and social influence on sexual activity and ability to communicate. The data were analyzed descriptively and different multivariate tests were carried out based on the type of student's impairment. Consequently, their understanding of reproductive health was discovered to be low, especially in terms of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), attitudes, and communication skills. The results also showed that there was no significant difference in the understanding of reproductive health in students with special needs concerning the type of disability suffered. These can be used by teachers, counselors, and the subjects plus their parents as initial information on developing an understanding of reproductive health in the future.

Abstract

Village health volunteers (VHVs) were essential in handling during and post-coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This study aimed to develop the capacity enhancement model of VHVs in preventing COVID-19 in Thailand. The development process and data collection used 12 stakeholders and 55 VHVs, respectively. The research tools were focus group discussions and questionnaires. We employed descriptive and inferential statistics for quantitative and content analysis for qualitative data. The model development was implemented in 9 processes: i) study the situation, ii) brainstorm to analyze the problems, iii) set the guidelines for model development, iv) organize training, v) review of role-based skills, vi) conduct public relations, vii) observe and follow up, viii) evaluate the operation, and ix) reflect on the results and lessons learned. After the model was developed, knowledge, attitude, and behavior in preventing COVID-19 were significantly better than before their capacity was enhanced (p<0.001). The model named “NAMKHUN Model,” which consisted of N=working as a network; A=ability to use application; M=effective management; K=up-to-date knowledge; H=having health literacy; U=having unity; and N=fast, accurate and up-to-date News). The success factor from the lesson learned was teamwork, which complements up-to-date knowledge and will create desirable skills for dealing with emerging diseases in the future.

Abstract

This study investigated the extent of social networking sites usage and its relationship with the undergraduate students’ psychological distress during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this quantitative correlational study, 212 students completed questionnaires assessing their social networking site use and psychological distress. Descriptive analysis revealed that the students were avid users of social networking sites. On average, almost half of the students used social networking sites more than six times per day while more than onethird of them spent more than three hours each day using social networking sites. Findings also showed that entertainment was the primary purpose of social networking site usage, followed by academic, social, and informational uses. Notably, nearly half of the students reported high levels of anxiety, and approximately one-third experienced significant depression and stress. However, correlational analyses found no significant associations between the length, frequency, and all purposes (social, academic, information, or entertainment) of social networking site usage and the levels of depression, anxiety, and stress. These findings suggest a complex interplay between these variables. Given the ever-increasing use of social networking sites and the alarming prevalence of mental distress among students, further studies are needed to delve deeper into this multifaceted relationship.

Abstract

Congenital hypothyroidism (CH) is an inadequate thyroid hormone in newborns and is one of the most common causes of preventable mental retardation. It is crucial to do CH screening in newborns aged a few days to detect early occurrences of CH so that intervention can be done immediately. Screening for CH was introduced in Indonesia in 2000, and by 2014, the percentage of newborns screened remained less than 1% of the total. The Special Region of Yogyakarta, one of Indonesia's provinces, has not been the subject of any research regarding the incidence of CH. Hence, this study aimed to investigate the incidence of CH in the Special Region of Yogyakarta during the period from 2018 to 2020. This study, conducted from January 2018 to December 2020, investigated CH incidence in Yogyakarta using data from 23,787 screened newborns. Nine were diagnosed with primary CH. Incidence of CH in this study was higher in males than females, small for gestational age (SGA) than appropriate for gestational age (AGA), and preterm than term, with no significant differences between the variables and CH incidence. Therefore, the incidence in the Special Region of Yogyakarta in 2018-2020 was found to be 1:2,643.

Abstract

Caring is central to nursing and requires scientific professional skills and knowledge. Numerous definitions highlight the fact that there is a range of perspectives regarding the caring behaviors. The purpose of this study was to provide a summary of caring behaviors among nursing students in order to depict a more comprehensive view, which could be used as foundational data for the argument that cultivating caring behaviors should be an early focus of the nursing curriculum. Article selection was guided by the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) Statements. Literature searches were conducted in June 21, 2022 in PubMed, cumulative index to nursing and allied health (CINAHL), and (OVID). The following search blocks were generated: nursing students, caring behavior, and education. About 318 were found using primary search descriptors and 19 studies were included in the review. All research was published between 2016 and 2020. The majority of studies were conducted using a cross-sectional design, two studies used prospective, and one study used a retrospective design. The caring behavior of nursing students varies depending on the country and instrument used, ranging from a moderate score to a high score, and varies from one study year to the next. The most dominant caring behavior domains reported are the domains of instrumental caring/physical caring and expressive caring/emotional caring. This study adds to the existing literature on nursing care and explains the universality of the concept of care from multiple theoretical perspectives. Caring interventions should be used to help students develop clinically-relevant caring behaviors.

Abstract

The role of cross-sectors in synergy with community empowerment in controlling schistosomiasis is a very effective model. Until mid-2017, the incidence rate of disease in humans in 28 endemic villages still ranged 0.00-2.15%. This research aims to evaluate schistosomiasis control activities that have been carried out across sectors based on a road map for schistosomiasis eradication and community empowerment in controlling schistosomiasis. The study was mixed method. Data were obtained by in-depth interview with key informants and evaluation of the results of cross-sectoral and community activities. The research was carried out in an endemic area for schistosomiasis on the Bada Plateau, Indonesia, from January to November 2019. In conclusion, the potential of cross-sector collaboration in controlling schistosomiasis has not been fully realized due to budget constraints. Community empowerment is carried out to eliminate snail foci, increase the scope of feces collection and change community behavior for the better in order to avoid infection and always try to clean up snail foci.

Abstract

Adolescence is an important period for developing social and emotional habits that are important for mental well-being. This research aimed to know the effectiveness of intervention programs to improve emotional regulation in adolescents with mental disorders. Preparation using the PICO approach, determination of inclusion and exclusion criteria, and a literature review of scientific English articles published between 2016 and 2023 were conducted. Data were obtained from the SCOPUS, Science Direct, SpringerLink, ProQuest, and SAGE databases. Assessment of the title, abstract, and full text of the article with the keywords "Adolescent," "Child," "Teenager," "Emotion regulation," "Emotion exposure," "Intervention," "Mental Disorders," "Randomised Control Trial." The systematic review report was reviewed critically to ensure that all PRISMA steps and items were included. Nine articles met the inclusion criteria. The choice of programs and methods of intervention may vary depending on the specific mental disorders and individual needs of adolescents. Nursing interventions, including cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, group therapy, support groups, and school-based programs, are widely used to manage and treat mental health disorders with the aim of improving well-being and recovery. The effectiveness of intervention programs varies, and selection should consider adolescent needs, resources, and cultural contexts. Consulting mental health professionals or organizations is recommended.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected all communities, including youngsters. Our aim was to assess the key sexual and reproductive health (SRH) concerns of young people in Albania during the pandemic as well as the factors associated with the main health concern. A cross-sectional study was carried out in Albania in 2021. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to assess the association of being concerned about mental health & psychological well-being, urgency for mental health information, and difficulty in getting mental health information with independent variables. In total 340 youngsters aged 14-30 years participated (66% female, 89% Albanian ethnicity, about 20% belonging to the LGBT community). Mental health & psychological well-being were the main SRH topics youngsters were concerned about, reported by 48% of them. About 37% of youngsters had an urgent need for mental health information during the pandemic and 18% experienced difficulty in getting this information. Being part of the LGBT community was associated with a significantly higher likelihood of being concerned about mental health (OR=3.15;95%CI:1.36-7.33), being in urgent need of mental health information (OR=3.68;95%, CI:1.63-8.32) and experiencing difficulties in getting mental health information (OR=3.48;95% CI:1.49-8.13). Higher household income levels also increased the likelihood of being concerned about mental health (OR=4.28;95%CI:1.55-11.77) and being in urgent need of mental health information (OR=4.15;95%CI:1.43- 12.01). In conclusion, young people in Albania have been concerned about various SRH topics during the COVID-19 pandemic, but the major concern was mental health & psychological well-being, especially for the LGBT community. The findings should guide future interventions for addressing youth mental health concerns in emergency situation.

Abstract

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, face-to-face learning has been transformed into online learning. This phenomenon was really challenging for teachers because they were not used to it. The adaptability of the teacher becomes an indispensable aspect to face the problem. The ability to integrate materials, pedagogy and technology or technological pedagogical and content knowledge (TPACK) supported the adaptability in implementing online learning. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of TPACK on professional adaptability. A sample of 457 junior and senior high school teachers in Indonesia and Malaysia completed the technological pedagogical and content knowledge scale and the career adaptability scale. Based on partial least square analysis, this study found that TPACK played a role in predicting four dimensions of career adaptability: concern, control, curiosity, and confidence. This structural model was also supported with path analysis. Therefore, TPACK becomes an essential aspect in influencing teachers' career adaptability.
