Abstract

Listening skill is one of the important points in language teaching. In teaching Arabic (listening), it becomes the first element of competence. Listening is receptive efficiency, so it is important in college. Every student must have an unconscious understanding of this proficiency. The purpose of this research is to study the basic theory and the implementation of mahārah al- istimā’ in higher education. The research method is to search the references using a qualitative approach. Interviews and library research were conducted to collect the data which then concluded for a new thesis. Language acquisition is based on the theories of listening in Qur'anic verses, language acquisition devices, perception, motivational response, and the linguistic environment. The main thing is that listening is a part of a language acquisition. The listening skill theory has evolved from linguistics theory to the theory of receptive language teaching, which is the overall psychological response, the natural approach, and the silent period. The stages of the listening skill in higher education use an Arabic standard based on ACTFL and MSA, which is then applied in the unit book. The sample of the higher education unit books are TOSA and ALBA.

Abstract

Abstract The 2013 curriculum demands a paradigm shift in learning, process, and evaluation, including in HOTS, MOTS, LOTS-based assessments. Using an evaluative research design, this study aims to analyze the Arabic language test items in the UAMBN Madrasah Aliyah under LP. Ma'arif Kabupaten Jepara for the Academic Year 2018/2019. The analysis includes the design and approach used in preparing the test, the content (materials) of the test, and the categorization of the quality level of the test items in the 2013 Curriculum, i.e. HOTS, MOTS, or LOTS. The results showed that: first, the approach used in preparing the test was an integrative approach for multiple-choice test questions and a discrete-point test approach for essay test questions. Second, the content of the test included Arab and Indonesian culture and civilization, Muslim figures, language level, language rules, and sentence structure. Third, Arabic language test questions in UAMBN covered HOTS, MOTS, and LOTS questions. In the multiple-choice questions, 11 questions (27.5%) were included in the LOTS category, 10 questions (25%) in the MOTS category, and 19 questions (47.5%) in the HOTS category. Meanwhile, the essay questions, which presented 4 questions (80%) for the HOTS category and 1 question (20%) for the MOTS category, were considered less proportional. Overall, the format for the Arabic test in the UAMBN Madrasah Aliyah has been proportional because it has accommodated questions with the HOTS, MOTS, and LOTS categories.

Abstract

This current research departs from concerns over the conventional Arabic teaching in the salaf pesantren (Islamic boarding school) which is not in accordance with the Arabic teaching curriculum for foreign language speakers. It aims to find out the right steps to design the curriculum so that objectives of Arabic learning can be achieved. Using a qualitative approach with a multi-case design, this study took place in three salaf pesantrens in Java, namely Pesantren As-Salafi of Ciwaringin West Java, Pesantren Al-Hikmah 2 of Benda Central Java, and Pesantren HM Al-Mahrusiyah of Lirboyo East Java. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation review. The study found that although, in general, the Arabic curriculum in the three salaf pesantren was quite suitable with the Arabic teaching curriculum for foreign language speakers, the right steps in designing the curriculum were still needed. First, the four language skills must receive good attention, especially the speaking skills considering the main function of language as a means of communication. Second, the curriculum material must contain three language competencies, i.e. the linguistic aspect, the function of language as a communication tool, and the cultural aspect. Third, the learning system needs to use a combination of several methods by considering the learning objectives, the material characteristics, the students' ability, and even the teachers’ condition. Fourth, modern learning media such as language laboratories need to be pursued because almost all the main objectives of language teaching can be carried out in such laboratories. Fifth, the evaluation of language learning must include mastery of linguistics and communication.

Abstract

An online-based kalam learning program at al-Azhar course institution, which has been implementing an online Arabic language program since before the pandemic of the Covid-19, was the primary focus of this study, which examines the execution of this program during the pandemic. These findings are the result of a form of a qualitative study. Interviews, observation, and documentation are employed to gather data. The data sources for this research include various informants, the implementation process of the online Kallimni program, and al-Azhar course institution papers linked to the online Kallimni program. When it came to analyzing the data, the researchers followed Miles and Huberman's recommendations to reduce the data, visualize it, and make conclusions. Using WhatsApp and Instagram, the online Kallimni program could well be implemented. In this online Kallimni program, the learning is project-based and themed. The online Kallimni program included both motivating and stifling features identified by the researchers. As a result of this study, teachers and students must engage in conversation to master the speaking skill (mahārah kalām). Teachers should thus use additional technologies as Google meet, Zoom, or Skype to help students learn speaking skills (mahārah kalām) more diversely and visibly.

Abstract

This research aims to extrapolate the weaknesses of students at SMP (Junior High School) Sadamiyyah-Jepara. The dictation test method is used to obtain data about error types of student answers. Data analysis is carried out through two phases: identifying errors, and then searching for their source. The research found several problems facing students at SMP Sadamiyyah in writing dictated texts. The most important are those related to writing Arabic letters, understanding vocabulary, grammars, and the overall meaning of sentences used in the dictation process. One causes these problems is the nature of Arabic writing, and the other is due to their lack of listening and their weakness in Arabic. The sound varies with its symbols in some Arabic words, the proximity of the source of some letters also inherits the difficulty of distinguishing between them. In addition, the lack of vocabularies and grammars hinders the overall understanding of the meanings of sentences. Dictation is a test of arabic comprehensive ability. Therefore, improving students’ ability in the dictation requires a lot of language practices. Students' poor in dictation becomes a starting point for reforming the Arabic language education process integratively.
