Abstract

The aircraft maintenance business in Indonesia is still very attractive along with increasing number of aircraft on Indonesia airlines. As much as 65% of the aircraft maintenance costs of domestic airlines that have not been absorbed by MRO Indonesia. Most of the unabsorbed portions are aircraft engine and component maintenance clusters which only absorb about 10% (USD 100 Million) of 75% (USD 750 Million Th 2017) engine maintenance costs (35%) and aircraft components (45%), issued by Indonesian airlines. From the 10% uptake of engine maintenance costs and components, the portion of engine maintenance maintenance uptake is only 5% (USD 50 Million) of 35% (USD 350 Million) engine maintenance costs. There is still around 30% (USD 300 Million) which is an opportunity for MRO Indonesia to develop the engine maintenance capability of Indonesian airlines. Based on several types of aircraft engines in Indonesian airlines, CFM56-7B used by B737-800/900 which has the largest population of around 450 engines. From the feasibility analysis on the development of the capability of the MRO engine for maintenance of the CFM56-7B, the ROI and Pay Back Period / PBP calculations for the capability engine development program are 24.57% and 4.4 years respectively. The ROI and PBP show that the CFM56-7B MRO engine development strategy is feasible.

Abstract

Many causes of aircraft accidents one of which is the failure of the aircraft to operate normally due to the age of the aircraft that is old. Stipulation of aircraft age restriction regulations are applied to reduce the number of aircraft accidents. The aircraft owned by Whitesky Aviation, the Cessna 402B is an aircraft used for aerial photography activities. Age restrictions on aircraft that are prohibited from operating are 45 years. Calculation of flight hours of the Cessna 402B according to current data records if an estimate is made when reaching the age of 45, the condition of the aircraft is still in good condition. So that age-limiting regulations are not appropriate to apply if applied to aircraft that only have low flight hours. At the writing of this final project aims to determine the influence of the age of the Cessna 420B on operational and maintenance and age limits in accordance with the comparison of maintenance schedule according to Flight Hours and Flight Cycle. And in low utilization operations there is no difference in aircraft operations based on aircraft age, aircraft utilization does not affect the number of maintenance according to the calender time and the age limit of the aircraft has not been reached so that it still has a lot of remaining life. PK-WLW aircraft have a remaining life of 29882.4FH and PK-WLY aircraft have a remaining life of 31405.2FH

Abstract

his research studies influence of bird geometry on impact pressures during bird strike, namely Hugoniot and Stagnation pressure. Bird geometry is capsule or cylinder with hemisphere end. The geometry is simulated with different L/D ratio, 1.5, 1.7, and 1.9. Elastic-plastic hydrodynamic material model is used in simulation. Bird model simulation are using smooth particle hydrodynamics method and initial velocities are 100 m/s, 200 m/s, and 300 m/s. The results show variation of L/D ratio provide Hugoniot pressure 14-25 times higher than stagnation pressure in L/D = 1.5, 12-25 times in L/D = 1.7, and 11-34 times in L/D = 1.9. Hugoniot pressures show an increased value from L/D 1.5 to 1.9 at a velocity of 100 m/s. However, for Hugoniot pressure at a velocity 200 m/s shows a value that decreases from L/D 1.5 to 1.9. The stagnation pressure ratio of L/D is lower than L/D 1.5 and 1.7 at impact velocity 100 and 200 m/s.

Abstract

Steel rope is one of the most important parts of the aircraft's systems lifter. Strength steel cord vary, depending on the terms of usage and requirements of a building. Construction steel rope which is typical for elevator consists of 8-spun wound together, the direction to the left or right with the middle core. Each spun steel strap consists of 19 wires is 9.9.1, which means outside the wire 9, 9 inside and one in the center. Sectional area of the steel rope (F152) based on the tensile stress to a steel rope (S) is 1.9 cm. Tensile stress occurs in the steel cord is equal to (S) = 1894 kg. While the tensile stress is permitted (Smax) = 2800 kg. Actual breaking strength steel strap (P) by the safety factor with the types of mechanisms and operating conditions (K) is (P) = 10417 kg. The lifetime of steel ropes obtained from this analysis is 120 months or 10 years in normal use 8 hours per day. Steel rope used types : 8 x 19 = 152 + 1 Fiber Core specification: diameter steel rope (d): 10 mm, weight of the rope (W): 1.15 kg / m, the burden of broken steel rope (Pb): 15,400 kg, rope fracture stress (σb): 140-159 kg / mm². Due to the tensile stress (ST) = 1894 kg less than the tensile stress that is authorized (Smax) = 2800 kg, it can be concluded that the steel straps secure against tensile loads that occur

Abstract

The lifting of the Restriction of Community Activities (PPKM) in January 2023 was the beginning of the aviation industry in Indonesia starting to rise marked by the emergence of new Maintenance Repair and Operations (MRO). Limited hangar space at MRO is a challenge in scheduling aircraft maintenance, setting the order of task cards that have been submitted by the airline and must be done in the maintenance project will be an illustration of how long this project will be done. MP item number 7122410504 contains Detailed Inspection of Aft Engine Mount Fail-Safe link is a maintenance job that can be done after the removal of Engine. The engine removal and installation process often takes more time and effort, potentially causing delays in the overall maintenance time. The purpose of this research is to make efficiency in the removal and installation process of the RR Trent 700 engine using the critical path method. The critical path method in analysing the stages of work in the maintenance process aims to identify and optimise resource allocation, so that maintenance time can be minimised and overall efficiency can be improved. The results showed that the application of the critical path method in the stages of engine removal and installation work resulted in a time efficiency of about 1,655 Hours so that the delay in work on the critical path became the main factor affecting the total duration of the engine removal and installation process.

Abstract

Operational safety in the airside area of airports is a crucial aspect in ensuring smooth and secure flight operations. This study was conducted at Fatmawati Soekarno Airport in Bengkulu with the aim of identifying potential hazards in the apron area and assessing their risk levels using the Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) method. Through direct observation during the On the Job Training program, four safety-related findings were identified: non-compliance with PPE use by ground staff, presence of Foreign Object Debris (FOD), oil spillage on the apron, and aircraft refueling conducted simultaneously with passenger movement. The risk assessment revealed that three findings fell under the unacceptable risk category, while one required risk control. The study recommends mitigation measures based on the hierarchy of hazard control approach for each finding. These results highlight the importance of strengthening safety culture and continuous supervision in apron management to enhance the overall airport safety system

Abstract

This study examines the influence of aviation security personnel's hospitality on passenger satisfaction at Sultan Thaha Jambi Airport, motivated by the increasing number of passengers post-COVID-19 pandemic and observations of occasional unfriendliness and non-SOP compliant appearance of officers. The research aims to determine the impact of aviation security personnel's hospitality on passenger satisfaction and to identify aspects of hospitality that need improvement. Employing a quantitative approach with a questionnaire survey, primary data was collected from 97 passenger respondents at SCP 2 Sultan Thaha Jambi Airport through simple random sampling. Data was analyzed using SPSS, including validity, reliability, classical assumption tests, simple linear regression analysis, and hypothesis testing. The results indicate that aviation security personnel's hospitality has a positive and significant influence on passenger satisfaction, with a regression coefficient of 0.461 and a correlation coefficient of 0.398. However, aviation security personnel's hospitality only explains 15.8% of the variation in passenger satisfaction, while 84.2% is influenced by other factors. Tangible aspects, such as the physical appearance of officers and the condition of the inspection environment, were identified as areas most in need of improvement. In conclusion, aviation security personnel's hospitality plays a crucial role in passenger satisfaction, and improvements in tangible aspects are highly recommended to enhance the overall passenger experience.

Abstract

The rapid growth of air transportation in Indonesia presents challenges to flight safety, particularly the recurring threat of bird strikes. Zainuddin Abdul Madjid International Airport Lombok (BIZAM), as the primary aviation hub in West Nusa Tenggara, frequently experiences such incidents due to its proximity to bird-attracting environments such as grasslands, rice fields, and water bodies. This study aims to analyze the causes of bird strikes and evaluate current mitigation strategies. A qualitative descriptive method was employed, involving direct field observation, interviews with airport safety personnel, and review of internal documents such as bird strike logs and safety reports. The research was conducted during the author’s On-the-Job Training (OJT) at BIZAM for five months in 2024. The findings revealed three documented bird strike incidents during the observation period, occurring near the runway and apron areas during take-off and landing phases. While current deterrent measures such as vehicle patrols and sirens are in use, they are largely ineffective in the long term. The absence of real-time monitoring systems, data integration, and inter-agency collaboration contributes to the vulnerability. This study recommends the implementation of habitat management, predictive data modeling, and radar-based detection tools to enhance flight safety and align with international aviation standards.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of the NOTAM service in Indonesian airspace delegated to Singapore, managed by the Medan Regional AIS Unit. Using a qualitative descriptive method with gap analysis, the research compares actual operations with ICAO and LOCA standards. Data were collected from July 2024 to August 2025 through observation, document review, and interviews. Analysis of three delayed NOTAM cases shows that while internal AIS procedures are generally compliant, effectiveness is hindered by delayed data submissions from external agencies. These delays violate ICAO Doc. 10066, limiting verification time, increasing operational stress, and posing flight safety risks. The study concludes that the core problem lies in the lack of compliance and awareness among external stakeholders. It recommends stronger dissemination of ICAO regulations, improved inter-agency coordination, and routine evaluations to ensure timely, accurate, and safe aeronautical information services.

Abstract

This study aims to compare the structural performance of auxetic chiral and honeycomb sandwich panels under compression and impact loading to identify their potential application in lightweight aerospace structures. Numerical simulations were conducted using the ABAQUS platform to analyze the mechanical response and failure behavior of both core designs. A mesh convergence study was performed to ensure accurate and reliable simulation results. The impact tests were conducted at energy levels of 5 J, 10 J, and 20 J, while compression tests were applied with a displacement of 4 mm. The results show that the auxetic chiral core demonstrates superior performance compared to the honeycomb core by achieving smaller deformations and better energy absorption under equivalent impact forces. Furthermore, the auxetic chiral core exhibits a higher compressive strength of up to 111 MPa, outperforming the honeycomb core, which withstands only 50 MPa. Failure analysis also reveals that facesheets on auxetic panels experience significantly smaller damage areas compared to honeycomb panels. These findings indicate that auxetic chiral cores offer promising advantages for designing lightweight, impact-resistant aerospace structures.
