Abstract

Education is a significant factor in building civilization. A civilization or a country will advance rapidly when its education system gives such a significant contribution to the development of Human Resources. The advancement of a nation determined by the extent of the educational institution which has succeeded in building its human being into a superior human being to be a dignified world citizen. Hindu civilization dramatically emphasizes the importance of education. In the history of Sanatana Dharma, training gets an enormous portion along with the building of the concept of gurukula, where teachers and sisya are living together in an educational institution. Moreover, when the West has not found an established educational system, India has built the world's earliest university Thaksashila or Taxila with a highly developed teaching system. But the progress of civilization in the past has not always been well inherited in the next era. Currently, Hindus, especially in Indonesia, are faced with Hindu-based education that can answer global challenges. Not only prosecuted to build superior human resources but educational institutions required to master technology as a worldwide phenomenon. Hindu educational institutions were requested to be capable of becoming a modern gurukula as well as capable of realizing superior human resources. Therefore, to answer the requirements of global challenges, students in gurukula must be able to overcome the language barrier. They have to be able to communicate well in English. Hence, the EFL(English as Foreign Language) Teaching becomes an essential part of the Hindu Gurukula Modern system.

The vast development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT)improves the integration of technology for the academic purpose. This phenomenon thenraises an issue of technology acceptance, which becomes an interesting field of investigationfor many scholars. In this respect, Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) has proven to be arobust, powerful, and parsimonious framework for predicting user acceptance oftechnology integration in various fields (Lai, 2017; Rondan-Cataluna et al., 2015). Althoughthere is a lot of research studies reported the use of TAM and its developed versions ininvestigating the technology acceptance in the educational field, there is no publication thattrying to map current studies which focus on educational technology acceptance researchespecially in ELT. Based on the needs of providing such information, this article wouldpresent the state of the art of the current research trends on the application of TAMframework in investigating ICT integration acceptance in ELT. The main part of this articlewould describe the evolution of TAM framework, followed by the discussion of recentresearch results concerning the technology acceptance, and the future trends of technologyacceptance research in ELT. This state of the art article is expected to inspire other researchersto conduct further studies on technology acceptance in ELT and also suggest the ELTpractitioners about the current and future trends in technology integration for academicpurpose.

Abstract

This writing entitled “The Precision and Accuracy of English Verbs Choice in Recount Text Written by The Students of CEC Denpasar: An Analysis of Metalanguage” was conducted in order to be able to find out the percentage of precision and accuracy of English verbs choice in recount text written by the students of CEC Denpasar, analyze the lexico-semantic error, and describe the factors that cause this error. The data in this study were taken directly from recount texts written by the students of CEC Denpasar, interview, and questionnaire. Those data were collected by using a test, interview, and questionnaire method. The theory applied in this writing is Metalanguage from NSM theory proposed by Wierzbicka (1996). However, in describing the error, the analysis was done through configuration only by the qualitative method. The result shows that out of twenty-six verbs, twelve chosen verbs were less precise. Through Metalanguage, those errors can be described configurationally. Moreover, the difference between the error and the recommendation verbs can be explained, therefore, the difference can be shown. There were two factors that cause this error. They are external (teacher, method, strategy, technique used in teaching) and internal (motivation, potency, competence, and learners’ language background) factors.
