Abstract

Anxiety that occurs before Sectio Caesarea surgery is a natural thing, arising from facing something that has been or has never been experienced before. Therefore, an action is needed that can reduce the patient's anxiety level. Benson relaxation and Guided imagery therapy are two therapeutic non-pharmacological therapeutic measures that can be used to reduce the patient anxiety levels. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Benson relaxation and Guided imagery therapy on anxiety of pre-operative Sectio Caesarea patients at The Regional General Hospital. This study was conducted from February to March 2024 at Ajibarang Regional Hospital with the population in this study being all pre-operation sectio casaera patients at Ajibarang Regional Hospital, Ajibarang, Central Java. This study used a quantitative method, with a cross-sectional design. The sample in the study was 32 respondents who were taken by purposive sampling and then divided into two intervention groups with 16 respondents each for each intervention group. The data collection in this study is in the form of observations, interviews, and questionnaires. Data analysis using Paired sample t-test. The results showed that there was a significant effect between Benson relaxation therapy and Guided imagery therapy on the anxiety levels in pre-operative Sectio Caesarea patients (p<0.001).

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is associated with various complications, one of which is diabetes distress. Although numerous technology-based interventions have been implemented for patients with DM the impact of these interventions on diabetes distress remains inadequately understood. This study aimed to assess the effect of telemonitoring on diabetes distress among patients with type II DM in border regions. A quasi-experimental pre and post-test research design, without a control group, was utilized for the study. Conducted from July to September 2024, at the Puskesmas in the Belu Regency, the study involved a total sample of 22 respondents, selected through consecutive sampling. The Indonesian version of the Diabetes Distress 17 (DDS17) was used to measure diabetes distress. The telemonitoring intervention consisted of telephone calls lasting approximately 15-20 minutes. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Results indicated that the mean value of diabetes distress before the intervention was 2.82, which decreased to 1.86 after the intervention. The difference in the decrease in the average value before and after the intervention was 0.96. Statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon signed rank test revealed a p-value of less than 0.05, indicating a significant difference in diabetes distress before and after the telemonitoring intervention. Therefore, telemonitoring can be considered a viable technology-based intervention through telephone calls to reduce distress in DM patients, particularly in border areas.

Abstract

Discharge planning is a dynamic and systematic process of assessment, preparation, and coordination aimed at facilitating the supervision of health and social services before and after hospital discharge. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of discharge planning implementation on family knowledge in caring for patients with Coronary Heart Disease (CHD). A quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach was used. The sample consisted of 27 respondents selected through accidental sampling based on inclusion criteria. The intervention involved providing educational material using a leaflet on family knowledge in caring for CHD patients. Knowledge was measured using a 25-item questionnaire. The results showed that most respondents were aged 45–54 years (48.1%), female (59.3%), had a high school education (59.3%), and had cared for CHD patients for less than one year (55.5%). In the bivariate analysis, the pretest scores indicated that 73.4% had moderate knowledge, while posttest scores revealed that 96.74% had good knowledge. These findings demonstrate that discharge planning significantly improves family knowledge in caring for CHD patients, which may help reduce recurrence and hospital readmission rates.

Abstract

Abstract Despite the increasing emphasis on patient satisfaction as a key indicator of healthcare quality, there remains a lack of studies specifically examining satisfaction levels among cardiac catheterization patients, particularly across different procedural stages. This study aims to determine patient satisfaction with cardiac catheterization services. This study used an analytic descriptive design. Samples involved in this study were patients who undertook catheterization from May to June 2024 with a total of 44 respondents selected using total sampling. The variable of this study was patient satisfaction with cardiac catheterization services measured using a questionnaire developed by the researcher. It was validated with an R-value of 0.039 and a Cronbach value of 0.940. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis. The result of the study showed that most of the respondents' age were late elderly (43.2%), male (72.7%), and high school education (52.3%). The majority of respondents were satisfied with the pre-catheterization stage (81.8%), the intra-catheterization stage (90.9%), and the post-catheterization stage (81.1%). The majority of respondents (86.4%) were satisfied with the cardiac catheterization services that had been carried out. Moreover, based on the characteristics of the respondents, elderly respondents were satisfied (94.7%), more male respondents stated satisfied (87.5%), and respondents with high school education (91.3%). The level of satisfaction was based on the stages of action in each dimension of satisfaction, and in general, the respondents were satisfied with the service. Patient satisfaction has a vital role in the outcome of health services, and it is an indicator of the service and management of health institutions.

Abstract

Type II Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) carries a high risk of long-term complications, such as blood vessel damage from the buildup of glucose in the bloodstream . The incidence of T2DM complications, such as neuropathy and Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD), is notably high. These issues are often linked to low physical activity, as indicated by abnormal Ankle Brachial Index (ABI). One physical exercise for T2DM patients that can be done actively is the Buerger Allen Exercise (BAE). This study aims to analyze the effect of BAE on ABI values in T2DM patients. The study used a pre-experimental design with post-test only control group. Sampling was conducted through total sampling, with 20 participants in the intervention group and 20 in the control group. Data were collected by measuring the ABI values of the intervention group after on session of BAE for 20 minutes, and comparing them with the control group. The data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test because of the non-normal distribution. The findings revealed a significant impact of BAE on ABI values in T2DM patients (p-value 0.003 < 0.05). The average ABI value post-BAE intervention in the treatment group was 0.79 (mild obstruction), while the control group had an average of 0.69 (moderate obstruction). The BAE physical exercise improves blood flow through muscle contractions and gravity, which increases peripheral perfusion, as demonstrated by the improvement in ABI values. The findings suggest that BAE can be implemented as a routine physical activity program for people with T2DM.

Abstract

Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is reported as one of the highest nosocomial infection conditions in several countries. Risk factors can be classified into modifiable and non-modifiable factor. This study aims to analyze modifiable factors related to the incidence of VAP in patients using mechanical ventilation. This study used a prospective cohort observational analytic design with a quantitative involving 40 patients with mechanical ventilation in the ICU and selected using purposive sampling. Observation sheets and Clinical Pulmonary Infection Score (CPIS) were used as data collection tools. Hypothesis testing in this study utilized Somers’s d, contingency coefficient, and Kendall’s tau. The analysis revealed significant associations between the duration of mechanical ventilation (p=0.009), and level of consciousness (p=0.021) with the incidence of VAP. However, no significant associations were found between antibiotic use (p=0.075), ICU length of stay (p=0.135), and reintubation (p=0.253) with the incidence of VAP. The study showed that the length of time mechanical ventilation was used and the patient's level of consciousness were factors associated with the incidence of VAP in the ICU. Thus, special attention to modifiable factors can be one of the effective strategies in reducing the incidence of VAP in the ICU.

Abstract

Adolescence is a transitional stage marked by biological, emotional, and cognitive changes that increase the risk of developing mental-emotional disorders such as anxiety, depression, and emotional instability. WHO report that 10–20% of adolescents face mental health problems, influenced by factors such as family conflict, peer pressure, and excessive social media use. Without early intervention, these disorders may lead to long-term consequences including chronic psychiatric conditions and increased suicide risk. This study aims to analyze the effect of SHG therapy in reducing emotional and mental disorders in adolescents. A quantitative, pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was used. The sample consisted of 76 junior high school students in grades VII and VIII in Malang Regency, selected through total sampling. SHG therapy was conducted based on the Specialist Mental Health Nursing Standard Operating Procedure in four structured stages: problem identification, planning, problem solving, and evaluation. The intervention was delivered across 17 meetings divided into four sessions, facilitated by a trained mental health nurse and five facilitators. Mental-emotional disorders were assessed using the validated Pediatric Symptom Checklist-17 (PSC-17). Participants had PSC scores ≥15 and consented to full participation. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The mean score for emotional and mental disorders decreased from 17.16 (SD = 5.001) before the intervention to 15.63 (SD = 6.092) after (p = 0.001), reflecting a 9% reduction. SHG therapy significantly reduces emotional and mental disorders in adolescents and holds potential for implementation in school-based mental health initiatives

Abstract

Nutritional issues among children remain a significant public health concern in Indonesia, as indicated by the high prevalence of stunting and obesity due to suboptimal fulfillment of balanced nutrition. Parental motivation plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality of children's nutritional intake, although it is often influenced by limited knowledge and inadequate support. Peer education is considered an effective strategy to enhance parental motivation by optimizing interactions among parents to share information and experiences related to the implementation of balanced nutrition practices. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of peer education on improving parents' motivation to fulfill balanced nutrition for elementary school students. This study was a pre-experimental design. The population consisted of parents of elementary school children in Palembang City, with a total of 20 respondents selected through purposive sampling. The intervention was conducted through peer education sessions facilitated by parents. The results of the statistical test showed a significant increase in parental motivation following the intervention, with a p-value of 0.035. Parents are encouraged to optimize their role in providing balanced dietary intake for their children by maintaining strong motivation as an effort to help prevent nutritional status problems in children.

Abstract

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) is a common condition among menstruating women, often influenced by factors such as sleep quality and stress levels. Final-year female students are particularly vulnerable to sleep disturbances and academic stress. This study analyzes the relationship between sleep quality and academic stress with PMS among final-year nursing students at UPN “Veteran” Jakarta. A Cross-Sectional design was used, and data was collected in November 2024. The study involved 188 final-year students: Bachelor of Nursing (79 respondents), Diploma in Nursing (45 respondents), and Professional Nurse Education Program (64 respondents), selected through Stratified Convenience Sampling. Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Student-Life Stress Inventory (SLSI), and Shortened Premenstrual Assessment Form (SPAF) were used to measure sleep quality, academic stress, and PMS. Data were collected via online questionnaires and analyzed using the chi-square test. Results revealed a significant relationship between sleep quality (p = 0.000; OR = 5,989) and academic stress (p = 0.000; OR = 28,761) with PMS. Students with poor sleep quality had a 6-fold higher risk of severe PMS, while those with high academic stress had a 29-fold higher risk. This study emphasizes the importance of maintaining healthy lifestyles, such as improving time management to enhance sleep quality and adopting coping strategies to reduce academic stress, thereby minimizing PMS complaints
