Abstract

This article aims to dig deeper and reveal the rhetorical strategies of three influencers who are alleged sexual harassment perpetrators in their statements on social media. Social media has given a way for sexual harassment victims to expose their perpetrators, including those who are public figures. However, the alleged perpetrators are also given the same platform to share their statements. Recently, there have been many sexual harassment allegations against social media influencers and celebrities. These public figures then used the same social media platforms they were already familiar with to publish their statements. The study uses qualitative assessment and observation on video statements from Indonesian influencers, Billy Joe Ava, Gofar Hilman, and Niko Al Hakim. Analyses were made based on Kenneth Burke’s Dramatism theory, defining the pentadic elements, and assessing the guilt and redemption approach, as well as the identification strategy. Findings from the assessment reveal that in addressing the allegations, two pentadic elements are dominantly used, agent and scene, with the aim of identifying themselves with the audience, providing a background of the accusation, and hence maintaining influence on their audience. Moreover, scapegoating is the main redemption strategy, with variations in the chosen scapegoats.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the audience reception of acculturation in parenting style on the Indonesian-Korean YouTube channel "Kimbab Family". Parenting is an activity aimed at helping children to meet challenges from the environment as well as developing. This study focuses on the interpretations of young adult audiences on the YouTube channel. Thirty-six informants were selected as primary data using FGD techniques. From the results obtained by the researchers through FGDs with the informants, it was shown that the audiences reception on the YouTube channel is diverse and influential. By combining Indonesian and Korean parenting styles, the Kimbab Family has become a source of inspiration and a role model for effective parenting. This research highlights the need for further exploration of the role of media platforms in shaping audience perceptions and expectations, as well as the potential benefits and challenges of incorporating diverse cultural influences in parenting practices.

Abstract

This research aims to comprehensively analyze the complex interactions between voter preferences, social media, and election dynamics by reviewing existing global research documents and identifying trends, key findings, and knowledge gaps that need to be filled. This research uses a bibliometric analysis approach with data from Scopus and the Vosviewer analysis tool to visualize the data. The main findings of this research show that political dynamics increasingly influenced by social media, especially related to the spread of fake news, polarization, and populism, significantly impact voter preferences. However, these three themes, namely fake news, polarization, and populism, still require deeper study in the future due to the lack of related research. In addition, to fill research gaps, it is also necessary to develop more sophisticated analytical models, including the application of artificial intelligence and voting algorithms, to understand the influence of new technologies in the political context and how this may shape voters' preferences in the future. The study also suggests implementing stricter policies, including increasing digital literacy and accountability of social media platforms, to ensure fairer and more transparent elections in the digital era. With these steps, it is hoped that future elections will be more honest, transparent, and free from the negative influence of social media.

Abstract

The Yogyakarta government established the COVID-19 Task Force, involving various organizations, to effectively communicate with the public during the pandemic. Employing a persuasive communication model, the task force integrates the heart communication theory and utilizes techniques such as association, participation, and fear arousal. The study aims to identify this persuasive communication model's effectiveness for pandemic control. Utilizing a qualitative approach and case study methodology on the Yogyakarta COVID-19 Task Force, data collection involved interviews, observations, and documentation. The results reveal a hub-patterned organizational communication model, centered around the head of the COVID-19 Task Force, facilitating coordination. Techniques like association, participation, and fear arousal are applied to persuade the public to adhere to health protocols. Additionally, the task force incorporates the heart communication theory among field teams to manage emotions, fostering sympathy and empathy for disaster-affected populations. This approach ensures cautious communication to prevent conflicts within the community, contributing valuable insights for future disaster management strategies. This article contributes a tailored persuasive communication model for the COVID-19 Task Force, offering practical insights into effective strategies, emotional intelligence integration, and organizational communication. The focus on Yogyakarta's local context enhances the relevance of the findings, serving as a valuable resource for policymakers and disaster management teams in shaping future communication strategies.

Abstract

Large families are very common in Indonesian culture. Individuals living in extended families with multigenerational childcare responsibilities are known as the Sandwich Generation. The challenges involved in multi-generational parenting impact the lifestyle of the Sandwich Generation as a whole, including personal time, career development, and financial stability. The Sandwich Generation is at risk for various mental health problems, including stress, depression, and anxiety, due to increased pressure and demands. The objective of this research is to see the picture of well-being support in the sandwich generation as reflected in the films Cinta Pertama, Kedua, dan Ketiga. The research method used to review the films Cinta Pertama, Kedua, dan Ketiga is Content Analysis by Philip Mayring with an interpretive paradigm. Abstraction, explication, and arrangement were carried out to analyze this film. There are three things that can be concluded from the content analysis of the films Cinta Pertama, Kedua, dan Ketiga. First, the dynamics of the life of the sandwich generation are described as full of problems. Second, the main character Dewa is described as having well-being support from his family. Third, the well-being support obtained cannot be separated from the standard culture that exists in Indonesia, namely Guyub, where people live in harmony and support each other as a family member.

Abstract

In An extended Cognitive Mediation Model (CMM) was constructed to examine the public's knowledge acquisition and preventive behavioral intentions during the COVID-19 pandemic in the context of social media in China. This extended CMM incorporated three additional variables compared with the original CMM: risk perception, interpersonal communication, and behavioral intention. The motivations for social media use, including surveillance gratification, guidance, anticipated interaction, and risk perception, were positively associated with social media attention, elaboration, and interpersonal communication. Elaboration and interpersonal communication were positively associated with factual and structural knowledge acquisition, which in turn positively influenced behavioral intention. Differential mediation effects were observed: significant indirect effects from motivations to factual knowledge involved elaboration and the combination of attention and elaboration, while all mediation effects from motivations to structural knowledge were significant. Furthermore, mediation paths from motivations to behavioral intention were primarily significant when involving elaboration and structural knowledge, but not factual knowledge. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.
