Abstract

Effectively implemented maritime education and training (MET) is essential to improve the competence of Indonesian seafarers in the international arena. This research examines the influence of STIP cadets' soft skills competencies. The two methods used were surveys and interviews with respondents from foreign shipping companies and maritime agents. These companies expect cadets who graduate from STIP as officers to be not only experts in hard skills competencies, but also capable of soft skills, which include the ability to manage crew, adaptability, problem solving and communication skills, as well as the ability to make presentations and give good explanations in English as communication skills. The research method used was a quantitative approach. It was found that adaptability 4,583 and teamwork 4.419 played a big role compared to problem solving 4.360 and communication 4.272. Changes in the adaptation of habits and daily activities in English in the STIP campus environment to support MET improvement are expected to increase the absorption of STIP cadets in international shipping companies.

Abstract

Managerial competence is the ability to manage resources through planning, organizing, implementing, and supervising activities to achieve organizational goals effectively and efficiently, especially in terms of the art of leading, controlling, commanding, coordinating, transacting, and serving which a manager must have in achieving goals organization. Therefore, this can only be obtained in leadership and teamwork courses. However, the current approach to teaching these skills often  yields suboptimal results in terms of attitudes and learning outcomes. In response, we conducted a study aimed at elevating the quality of leadership and teamwork instruction through the implementation of a problem-based learning approach. This method prompts students to solve practical challenges simulating real-world workplace situations. This study used a qualitative approach with the Lesson Study method and Cluster Random Sampling with a study population of 24 participants consisting of 19 male and 5 female participants. The results showed that our research revealed 91.67% of participants achieved a score of at least 80, surpassing the targeted objective of 85%. Moreover, student engagement exceeded expectations, with an average activity rate of 86.67% against a target of 80%. In conclusion, the utilizing of problem-based learning models can improve students' critical thinking skills in leadership and teamwork lessons.

Abstract

Unemployment is defined as people over the age of 15 who are looking for or do not have a job. The imbalance between the number of jobs and the number of labor force leads to the potential for spatial labor mobility between villages and cities. Therefore, data on the open unemployment rate (TPT) in Indonesia may have spatial effects. The spatial regression analysis method is a commonly used method to estimate the parameters of spatial econometrics models. However, this method is not good enough to estimate the model parameters when there are many spatial units. To overcome this problem, an alternative Bayesian method can be used. This study uses the Bayesian method approach to the Spatial Autoregressive (SAR) model applied to modeling the open unemployment rate in Indonesia in 2022. The data used is secondary data obtained from the Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) in 2022. The results that have been obtained show that the variable labor force participation rate is significant to the open unemployment rate in Indonesia with an acceptance rate of 0.55.

Abstract

One of the health problems faced by the Indonesian people and related stakeholders is the potential for extraordinary events (KLB) caused by the spread of endemic diseases, including pulmonary tuberculosis, diarrhea, dengue hemorrhagic fever, and malaria. As infectious diseases, these four diseases are classified as endemic considering that their potential for emergence is closely related to the topography of an area. This research aims to elaborate and study the relationship between pulmonary tuberculosis, diarrhea, dengue fever, and malaria with the topography of 57 sub-districts in Bali Province using correspondence analysis. Using secondary data from 9 city district health offices in Bali regarding the number of each disease in 2022. The topography of the 57 sub-districts in Bali Province is classified into 4 altitude groups, namely lowland, low-medium plains, medium-high plains, and low-high plains. The contingency table as the main data for analysis is a matrix of size 4 × 4. The results of the analysis show that pulmonary tuberculosis tends to be observed in the low-high plains, diarrhea tends to occur in low-medium plains and medium-high plains, while dengue hemorrhagic fever and malaria tend to be observed in the lowlands.
