Abstract

This research aims to explain the role of the Chinese community in humanitarian charities in Semarang from the 1920s to the 1950s in the context of colonial segregation, war, and early Indonesian independence. Using historical research methods including heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography, the research analyzes archival documents, newspapers, and secondary literature to understand the evolution of humanitarian organizations founded by Chinese. Drawing on philanthropy theory and social capital theory, the study highlights how institutions such as Boen Hian Tong, Tiong Hoa Hwee Koan (THHK), Polikliniek Tionghoa, and St. Mary's Hall adapted and transformed through three major regimes: Dutch colonial rule, Japanese occupation, and the early Republic. These organizations not only served immediate communal needs but also laid the foundation for inclusive social welfare through education, health care, and mutual aid. A key finding is the strategic shift from ethnically exclusive charities to more open and cooperative institutions that were able to respond to changing socio-political pressures. The novelty of this research lies in its exclusive focus on the philanthropic ecosystem of the Chinese community in Semarang, its integrated analysis of cross-sectoral institutions, and the application of a dual theoretical framework to uncover community resilience and agency.

Abstract

Handling money laundering crimes requires a comprehensive approach from law enforcement officials, including the central role of the Public Prosecutor (JPU) in the prosecution stage. This study discusses the optimal strategy used by the Public Prosecutor in handling money laundering cases, based on an analysis of the Central Jakarta District Court Decision Number 28/Pid.Sus-TPK/2020/PN Jkt.Pst. The method used is a normative juridical approach with qualitative data analysis techniques on decision documents and relevant laws and regulations. The prosecution of money laundering cases faces various challenges, such as complex financial transaction patterns and the use of fictitious identities. In this case, the prosecutor succeeded in proving the connection between the original criminal act and the act of money laundering using a reverse evidentiary approach. The cooperation between the prosecutor and the Financial Transaction Reporting and Analysis Center (PPATK) is a supporting factor in the preparation of detailed and argumentative indictments. Analysis of the verdict shows that careful preparation of indictments and the legal use of electronic evidence can strengthen the position of the prosecutor at the trial. In addition, collaboration between institutions also contributes to the effectiveness of prosecutions. This study provides an overview of the ideal practices for the prosecution of money laundering crimes in the criminal justice system in Indonesia and opens up opportunities for the development of litigation approaches that are adaptive to modern forms of financial crime.

Followed by providing basic concepts to village officials regarding the main functions of the application. Integration between product data on the village website This service also helps MSMEs in Sukojati Village sell products online through the Sukojati Village MSME website which will be linked to the Sukojati Village website. With product upload features and ordering integration via whatsapp, this website makes it easier for small businesses to promote and manage their sales.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of the Phonics Method in improving English pronunciation among 5th-grade students at SD GMIM IV Tomohon. With increasing emphasis on oral communication in Indonesia’s elementary English curriculum, mastering pronunciation at an early stage becomes crucial. However, students often struggle with phonological differences between Indonesian and English, such as vowel sounds, consonant clusters, and word stress. The Phonics Method, which systematically teaches the relationship between graphemes and phonemes, is proposed as an alternative to traditional pronunciation instruction methods. Using a mixed-method design, this study involved two groups: an experimental group taught with Phonics Method and a control group receiving conventional instruction. Quantitative data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests, while qualitative insights were gathered via classroom observation, student questionnaires, and teacher interviews. The findings revealed significant improvement in the pronunciation skills of students taught using the Phonics Method, especially in vowel and consonant articulation, syllable awareness, and word stress. Students also demonstrated higher engagement and confidence. The results suggest that phonics-based instruction enhances not only segmental features of pronunciation but also supports better learning motivation and participation. This study concludes that integrating the Phonics Method in elementary English instruction can effectively address early pronunciation difficulties and foster sustainable language acquisition

Abstract

This study examines the political and rhetorical strategies employed by Donald Trump during the 2024 United States presidential debate, focusing on five key tactics: polarization, demonization of opponents, emotional nationalism, anti-institution rhetoric, and personalization of leadership. Utilizing a qualitative approach with critical discourse analysis and rhetorical analysis, the research analyzes the complete transcript of the debate to identify how these strategies construct a populist narrative aimed at mobilizing voter loyalty, delegitimizing political adversaries, and positioning Trump as the sole solution to national crises. The findings reveal that Trump’s communication style is not only content-driven but also performative and symbolic, employing emotionally charged language and stark dichotomies to strengthen collective identity among supporters. Polarization is evident in his framing of “us versus them,” creating clear boundaries between patriotic citizens and perceived threats such as immigrants and political elites. Demonization tactics involve hyperbolic language portraying opponents as existential dangers, effectively generating fear and anger. Emotional nationalism is invoked through nostalgic references to America’s past greatness, reinforcing group cohesion and hope for restoration. Anti-institution rhetoric undermines public trust in media, government, and electoral systems, while personalization of leadership elevates Trump as an indispensable, charismatic figure. While these strategies prove effective in political mobilization, they also raise concerns about increased social fragmentation, erosion of democratic norms, and challenges to institutional legitimacy. This study contributes to the literature on political communication by providing a comprehensive, critical examination of contemporary populist rhetoric within a digital media environment. The results offer valuable insights for scholars, policymakers, and practitioners interested in the dynamics of political discourse and its implications for democratic processes.

Abstract

Longser art, a form of traditional Sundanese performance, faces significant threats from modernization and popular culture. Since 2010, the Bandoengmooi Community has taken a proactive role in preserving this cultural heritage through performances, training programs, and cross-sector collaborations. This study explores Bandoengmooi’s contributions to longser preservation using historical methods, including heuristics, criticism or verification, interpretation, and historiography. The findings reveal that Bandoengmooi not only sustains the physical performance of longser but also revitalizes its form and meaning to remain relevant in contemporary social contexts. Their training initiatives effectively engage the younger generation, equipping them with a comprehensive understanding of longser. Simultaneously, their performances function as a platform for social critique and environmental awareness. The institutional transformation into a formal foundation in 2021 further legitimized their cultural initiatives. Bandoengmooi demonstrates that cultural preservation need not be conservative but can embrace innovative and adaptive approaches to meet modern challenges. This study underscores the crucial role of community-based initiatives in saveguarding local culture heritage, especially amid awakening state support and increasing cultural globalization

Abstract

In the midst of modernization, many traditional arts are endangered due to lack of interest from the younger generation. Globalization has brought challenges to the preservation of traditional arts, including efforts to maintain cultural identity in Indonesia. This research examines the role of the Gambang Semarang Art Company (GSAC) Community in the formation of art activist identity in the younger generation through a qualitative case study approach. The research aims to understand the motivation of the younger generation to join GSAC, the activities organized by the community, as well as the role of the community in shaping the identity of art activists in the younger generation. The research findings show that: (1) young people are motivated to join GSAC because of their love for traditional arts and the need for a supportive community; (2) in order to preserve Gambang Semarang, GSAC organizes various creative activities, including rehearsals, collaboration with schools, and participation in festivals; (3) GSAC plays three important roles in helping to shape the identity of art activists, namely as a forum for identity negotiation, an agent of cultural adaptation, and a space for social interaction. In the face of the challenges of globalization, this research makes a significant contribution to efforts aimed at the preservation of arts and culture. By showing how local arts groups can evolve into dynamic centers of cultural identity, this research also uses theories of symbolic interactionism and social identity.

Abstract

The research aims to analyze how these crises transformed the traditional gold jewelry industry and affected craftsmen's livelihoods, social structures, and cultural practices. Using qualitative methodology with history approaches, data was collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. The findings reveal that both crises forced craftsmen to diversify their occupations, becoming gold brokers, traders, farmers, and laborers. The economic pressures weakened traditional solidarity systems, transformed gender roles with women taking more active economic roles, and reduced younger generation interest in continuing the craft tradition. The study contributes new insights into crisis resilience strategies in traditional industries and demonstrates how economic shocks create lasting social transformations. The research highlights the vulnerability of traditional crafts to external economic pressures and the adaptive mechanisms communities develop to survive.

Abstract

Humans are social creatures. One of its manifestations is the formation of a marriage between a man and a woman in building a happy household as the smallest unit in society. The rise of online gambling in Bojonegoro Regency has an effect on the household. Ranging from financial losses, addiction, to emotional instability. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach to analyze the impact of online gambling on household harmony. The qualitative method was chosen because it is able to describe the phenomenon holistically through narrative data), while the descriptive approach is used to portray actual conditions without manipulation of variables. Online gambling has a significant impact on household harmony which starts with a drastic deterioration in communication, When couples are entangled in online gambling activities, the time and attention that should be given to interact with the family is instead diverted to online games. So that daily communication becomes tense and conflict-prone. As a result, couples feel neglected, unappreciated, and have difficulty establishing a healthy discussion space

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of educational management in improving children's religious character at Tadika Brilliant Buds Edukids, Malaysia. Using a qualitative approach through observation and interviews, the study found that the application of educational management including planning, implementation, and evaluation can consistently create a conducive learning environment for the development of religious character in early childhood. Integration of religious values in learning, habituation of religious activities, and collaboration between teachers and parents are key factors for success. The main challenges faced are the diversity of children's backgrounds and the lack of parental involvement, but can be overcome with an adaptive and innovative approach. The results of this study are expected to be a reference in the development of religious character education in early childhood education institutions.
