Abstract

China and the UAE have established close bilateral relations strengthened by the Belt and ‎Road Initiative (BRI) first launched by President Xi Jinping in 2013. With the BRI, China aims to ‎implement its foreign policy based on various factors, objectives, and alternative strategies ‎that can be implemented. Using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method combined ‎with questionnaire and interview methods, the researcher aims to determine the increase in ‎bilateral cooperation and infrastructure development as part of China's foreign policy ‎orientation towards the UAE through the BRI. This study found that national security is the ‎main factor behind China's foreign policy, and infrastructure development is a priority goal in ‎the existing factors. The alternative strategy that is a priority is the development of energy ‎projects, which is also supported by China's ambition in developing energy infrastructure and ‎the UAE as an oil and gas producing country and its commitment to producing renewable ‎energy.‎

Abstract

This study aims to identify the potential for implementing a circular economy in waste management in Tomohon City as an effort to support the transition toward a green economy. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, using field observation, in-depth interviews with environmental and economic actors, and policy document analysis. The research was conducted in strategic locations such as the Final Disposal Site (TPA), traditional markets, waste banks, and tourist destinations that serve as centers of community activity and tourism. Findings show that the current waste management system in Tomohon still follows a linear model, resulting in significant environmental pressures. However, local initiatives such as plastic recycling by MSMEs, organic composting, and active participation in waste banks provide early indications of successful circular practices. Nevertheless, scalability and integration of these models into the regional economy remain limited due to infrastructure constraints, technical capacity, and weak policy coordination. Based on these findings, recommendations include the need for investment in waste processing infrastructure, institutional strengthening of waste banks, formulation of local policies oriented toward circular economy principles, and increased community participation through education and economic incentives. With the implementation of these recommendations, Tomohon has the potential to become a model for sustainable waste management based on the circular economy in Indonesia’s mountainous urban regions.

Abstract

The life philosophy of the Tidore community reflects a profound perspective on shaping a complete human identity, both morally and socially. One of the core values embraced is Toma Loa Se Banari, which emphasizes the importance of being a righteous and well-behaved individual in all aspects of life. These values are embodied in attitudes of integrity, togetherness, and social responsibility. This study aims to explore how such principles are utilized as a form of social capital within the educational process through an ethnopedagogical approach rooted in local culture. Using a descriptive qualitative method, the research observes how Tidore society transmits cultural values through daily social interactions, informal learning within families and communities, as well as formal education in schools. The findings indicate that consistent integration of local values into the education system can effectively shape students’ character in a holistic way. Therefore, strengthening culture-based education becomes a crucial step in enriching the curriculum while preserving the unique cultural identity of the Tidore community.

Abstract

Gentrification is a social phenomenon that involves regional transformation due to changes in social, economic, and cultural structures. This article discusses the relationship between gentrification and tourism through a gentricological approach, focusing on how the development of new areas due to gentrification contributes to the tourism potential in Indonesia. This research highlights the multifaceted role, ranging from government policies, business expansion, to socio-cultural impacts in gentrified areas. Various examples of regions such as Cilegon, Tanjung Bunga, Batam, and Tomohon were analyzed to identify the dynamics between indigenous and immigrant populations and their influence on local tourism activities. The results of the study show that gentrification can support the development of tourism through the emergence of new attractions, infrastructure improvements, and cultural diversification, although on the other hand it has the potential to cause social and economic inequality. These findings underscore the importance of careful and inclusive planning in the gentrification process so that the positive impact on the tourism sector can be maximized without neglecting the social sustainability aspect.

Abstract

Money politics often uses people's poverty as a shortcut to gain power. The purpose of this research is to identify and analyze the practice of money politics in general elections, especially legislative elections, which have an impact on leadership cadres in villages, especially subur villages. This research, which uses an Islamic sociopolitical approach, aims to connect the phenomenon of money politics practices based on social interests with the foundation of Islamic values. The data analysis method used in this study is qualitative data analysis, aiming for organizing, recording data records from the field and to answer research questions and gain a deep understanding of the topics discussed. Data collection techniques include observation and in-depth interviews with community leaders and the community itself. The results and discussions show that money politics hinders leadership development in Subur Village. This is evidenced by the widespread practice of money politics during elections, which no longer serves as a rational platform to choose candidates, but rather as a transactional platform. This creates inequality among legislative candidates or leaders, as it favors candidates who have financial power. This also results in competent candidates not being elected and promoting underprivileged leaders.
