Abstract

Background: Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) in pregnant women is one of the main risk factors that can affect infant birth weight. CED is associated with inadequate nutritional intake, which has the potential to cause low birth weight (LBW). This study aims to analyze the relationship between CED in pregnant women and the incidence of LBW in a health facility. Objective: This study aims to determine whether there is a significant relationship between CED in pregnant women and the incidence of LBW and to identify the impact of CED on infant birth weight. Method: This study used an observational study design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 16 pregnant women who experienced CED and gave birth at a local health facility. Data were collected through interviews and medical examinations to identify CED status and infant birth weight. Statistical analysis was performed using the chi-square test to determine the relationship between CED and the incidence of LBW. Results: The results of the analysis showed a p-value of 0.000, which means that the null hypothesis (Ho) stating that there is no relationship between CED and the incidence of LBW is rejected. On the other hand, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) stating that there is a relationship is accepted, indicating a significant relationship between CED and the incidence of LBW in pregnant women at the health facility. Conclusion: This study shows that CED in pregnant women is significantly associated with the incidence of LBW. Pregnant women who experience CED have a higher risk of giving birth to babies with low birth weight. Therefore, it is important to increase attention to meeting nutritional needs during pregnancy to prevent LBW.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) poses a significant public health challenge in Metro City, Lampung Province, characterized by fluctuating case numbers. This study aims to analyze the spatial patterns of DHF using Geographic Information System (GIS) techniques and identify associated risk factors. Data were collected from DHF patients recorded between January and April 2024, revealing geographic variations in case distributions, with Iring Mulyo village reporting the highest incidence. The analysis indicates that most cases occur in individuals aged 6-59, although children aged 1-5 are notably at higher risk. Additionally, the distribution of cases shows a higher prevalence among females, likely due to environmental and behavioural factors. Vulnerability mapping highlights areas with elevated risk, particularly in densely populated regions. The findings underscore the necessity for targeted interventions, including community empowerment and vector control efforts. Recommendations are made for health authorities to employ data-driven strategies tailored to each area's unique demographic and environmental contexts. This study emphasizes the importance of continuous monitoring and adaptive strategy to control and prevent DHF effectively across different population segments.

Abstract

DMPA may cause increased lipophysis or hydrolysis. Then the large amount of free fatty acids is carried to the liver, causing increased triglyceride synthesis and VLDL secretion. In the state of insulin resistance VLDL becomes increased in circulation and can cause an increase in Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL), LDL is mostly formed from VLDL. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of injectable birth control (DMPA) on Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) levels. The research method used in this study is analytic with a cross sectional approach. The technique used was purposive sampling in a population of 60 respondents and a sample of 24 respondents in women who used DMPA injectable birth control in Ponkesdes Fariyah.S.ST. The results obtained from 24 samples showed as many as 12 samples (50%) using DMPA injections above 3 years had higher LDL cholesterol levels compared to 12 samples (50%) using DMPA injections above 5 years. The results of statistical tests conducted with the Independent Samples Test test obtained a significant value of 0.793 (p ≥ 0.05) so it can be concluded that there is no difference in LDL-cholesterol levels in the use of injectable birth control for more than 3 years and more than 5 years. For women who use DMPA injectable birth control, it is advisable to check LDL levels more often so that the LDL levels in the blood can be known.

Abstract

The elderly population in Indonesia continues to increase, presenting challenges in health and well-being, including anxiety and independence in daily activities. This study aims to analyze the relationship between anxiety levels and independence in Activities of Daily Living (ADL) among neglected elderly individuals at the Budi Mulia 1 Social Welfare Home in East Jakarta. A quantitative approach was used, involving 153 neglected elderly participants. Data were collected through a questionnaire measuring anxiety with the Geriatric Anxiety Inventory (GAI) and ADL independence using the Barthel Index. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS software to examine the relationship between the two variables. The results showed that the majority of the elderly experienced moderate anxiety (71.9%) and mild dependence in ADL (55.6%). Hypothesis testing indicated a significant relationship between anxiety levels and ADL independence, with a p-value of 0.009 and a negative correlation coefficient (r = -0.210). There is a significant relationship between anxiety levels and ADL independence among neglected elderly individuals. Higher anxiety is associated with lower independence in daily activities. Interventions focused on reducing anxiety and enhancing social support and environmental conditions may help improve the independence and quality of life for the elderly.
