Abstract

Trend "Marriage is Scary" has influenced Generation Z Muslims by presenting narratives of fear and doubt about marriage on social media. This study aims to understand how Gen Z Muslims construct the meaning of this trend using Berger and Luckmann's social construction theory through in-depth interviews. The findings show that while the trend raises fears for some, the desire for marriage remains, with a stronger impact on women due to exposure to narratives of domestic violence, double burden, social pressure, and risks in marriage, whereas men remain unaffected. This research suggests the need for balanced educational media content, dialogues with parents and clerics, and pre-marital education for singles to build a positive yet realistic view of marriage. This study contributes to the literature on digital narratives and social constructions among Gen Z Muslims and highlights gendered experiences in marriage perceptions.

Abstract

In addition to competence as an educator, cultural understanding and cultural awareness are also important for a history teacher to have. History teachers have an obligation to provide multicultural perspectives to their students. Indonesia, a country that consists of various ethnicities, cultures, and religions, requires history teachers to fulfil this obligation. Therefore, teachers must have a strong foundation and teach how these cultures live and coexist. Through the implementation of the cross-cultural course, this research aims to improve teachers' professional competence, foster, and strengthen their cultural awareness, and broaden their understanding of cross-cultural history materials. This study used a quantitative method with a one-group pretest-posttest design involving giving a pretest before socialization (treatment) and then conducting a posttest afterwards. In our treatment We involved lecturers from the Department of History, Universitas Negeri Malang, as well as the East Java history teachers. In this study, we measured cultural awareness using a questionnaire. Furthermore, we used t-test on SPSS 26 application to calculate validity, reliability, and analysis test. The results of this service showed that the cultural awareness of East Java history teachers increased after attending the training. In addition, the creation of infographic learning media has equipped the teachers with new skills.

Abstract

The use of Javanese script is increasingly being replaced by the Latin alphabet, and while preservation efforts through school-based learning have been implemented, they remain ineffective due to monotonous instructional methods. This study examines the effectiveness of an innovative approach to overcoming the monotony in Javanese script learning through a joyful learning model incorporating e-flashcards and engklek games. The research design involves two class groups: an experimental group, which receives the joyful learning treatment, and a control group, which undergoes conventional instruction. Quantitative data were collected from a total sample of 66 students through a practical reading test of Javanese sentences conducted after the treatment. The data were then analyzed using hypothesis testing, revealing that the joyful learning model significantly enhances learning outcomes. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the joyful learning model serves as an effective alternative for teaching Javanese script, offering a more engaging and interactive approach to script preservation and literacy development.

Abstract

This study examines several controversial policies of the New Order government as a manifestation of educational politics in the realm of higher education. This study uses a historical method consisting of five steps by Kuntowijoyo, namely topic determination, heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The data collection technique uses historical literature studies by utilizing various sources such as journals, books, theses, and articles that are credible and relevant. The results of the study show that several controversial policies of the New Order in the realm of higher education are the implementation of NKK/BKK to sterilize campuses from political activities that have the potential to endanger the stability of security and government power. More specifically, the government prohibits and complicates licensing for student activities to hold demonstrations, seminars, discussions, and other activities aimed at criticizing the government. In addition, lecturers and students are also prohibited from using left-wing learning resources that are contrary to Pancasila. Other controversial policies include the centralized election of campus leaders, the prohibition of long hair and the prohibition of wearing the hijab. Higher education level becomes one of the strategic spaces that cannot escape from the tight supervision, control, political and ideological interests of the rulers. As a result, the campus democracy is increasingly dimming due to the limited space for movement and expression of students, especially in non-academic matters.

Abstract

The rapid rise of internet communication has transformed interactions, including business, relationships, and even the search for commercial sex through platforms like MiChat. This study explores violence, such as intimidation, coercion, and abuse, alongside exploitation, including blackmail and forced payments, within this digital landscape. Using Foucaultian perspective on power and resistance, it highlights how digital technology becomes a battleground for power dynamics in the sex industry. Employing qualitative methods, the research examines sex workers using MiChat as a social and economic platform through observations, interviews, and documentation. Findings reveal that while these workers gain autonomy in their profession, they remain susceptible to exploitation and violence from clients. However, sex workers resist these oppressions, illustrating a struggle for agency. Power dynamics emerge as clients use financial leverage and violence, whereas sex workers, particularly women, counteract these controls to reclaim their autonomy.
