Abstract

This activity aims to improve the ability and to increase the interest of children coming from low-income families at Rumah Pintar Mingguan Kreatif Ampang (RPM Ampang) to learn science through mini-science experiments. This practicum consists of two topics; the phenomenon of an erupting volcano and the inflation of a balloon without being blown up. This activity was attended by 31 pupils, and 5 RPM volunteers. The result of this community service activity is an increase in children's interest and motivation in the field of science, as well as an understanding of a topic through direct practicum using simple tools and materials to make learning more meaningful. In addition, RPM will make this mini science practicum activity a monthly routine activity in the RPM community with assistance from Universitas Sumatera Barat’s team to mentor their volunteers so that RPM can independently perform science experiments in the future. Abstract

The concept of world tourism has shifted and is moving towards an ecotourism model due to the saturation of tourists visiting artificial tourist attractions. Nagari Manggopoh, located in Agam Regency, West Sumatra Province, has an image as an area rich in ecotourism potential. This is supported by the potential of the Kalulutan River that stretches across Nagari Manggopoh. One of the very unique natural resources found in the waters of the Kalulutan River is Lubuk Larangan. However, Lubuk Larangan, which should be a protection zone for the sustainability of natural resources, has instead become a popular destination for anglers from various regions in Agam Regency. This can result in overfishing. In addition, uncontrolled tourist visits can cause a decrease in the fish population in the river because the activities carried out by these tourists can disrupt the overall aquatic ecosystem. The purpose of this community partnership program is to provide training to the Dasa Wisma Mawar 1 group in an effort to develop sustainable culture-based river ecotourism in Nagari Manggopoh, Agam Regency, West Sumatra Province through a community empowerment approach (community base development). The implementation method used is Oriented-Project Planning (OPP). Based on the results of the study, it can be seen that training on river ecotourism development based on sustainable culture in Nagari Manggopoh is able to increase participants' knowledge about the concept of river ecotourism development and management based on sustainable culture.

Abstract

The explosive growth of technology necessitates educators staying current with the latest innovations, especially for technology-based learning in the sciences. However, at SMA Negeri 1 Ampek Angkek, it was discovered that several teachers have varying levels of technological proficiency, face resource constraints, and struggle to develop interactive learning materials. As a result, students often lose interest in learning. To solve this problem, a training session on using the Wordwall application, a web-based educational tool that includes interactive tools like puzzles, flashcards, and quizzes, was held. The workshop aimed to help teachers create more interactive and interesting teaching methods, as well as improve their ability to use educational technology. As a result, the training session improved the quality of teaching at SMA Negeri 1 Ampek Angkek, making the classroom atmosphere more dynamic and interesting for students.

Abstract

MAN 2 Padang Panjang is one of the best state Islamic high schools in West Sumatra. This school is very focused on building quality student character. However, the main problem experienced by students of MAN 2 Padang Panjang is the lack of student confidence to take on leadership roles in school activities or outside the classroom. This was expressed by the Head of MAN 2 Padang Panjang through a letter of request to the Head of LPPM UNP to carry out community service, especially in the form of Basic Leadership Training (LDK) for students of MAN 2 Padang Panjang. LDK plays an important role in shaping the character, skills, and positive attitudes needed by students to become effective leaders in the future. Therefore, LDK is important in training students' leadership skills. The Brimob Unit of the West Sumatra Police has the responsibility to build the leadership capacity of the younger generation as an effort to build a better community. As part of the police institution, the Brimob Unit has experience and expertise in the field of leadership that can be conveyed to the younger generation. The purpose of this PKM is to provide basic leadership training by the Brimob Unit Personnel of the West Sumatra Police to students of MAN 2 Padang Panjang. The long-term goal of this program is to develop skills and positive attitudes of MAN 2 Padang Panjang students to become effective leaders in the future. Abstract

Nagari Talang Babungo in Solok Regency, West Sumatra, exhibits significant potential for sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) cultivation. While the current average sugarcane yield in this area is 70 tons/ha, the maximum potential could reach 150 tons/ha. This research aims to enhance sugarcane productivity through the application of biochar, produced from agricultural waste including bagasse, as a soil amendment. Biochar has been shown to improve soil fertility and nitrogen use efficiency in plants. To capitalize on this potential, a comprehensive mentoring program has been implemented to enhance farmers' knowledge and skills in sugarcane cultivation and post-harvest processing techniques. Results demonstrate that biochar application can increase sugarcane biomass production by up to 23% and improve nitrogen use efficiency by up to 35%. Moreover, the socialization and training initiatives have significantly improved farmers' understanding, with average participant scores rising from 42.3 to 85.7 after program completion. The integration of biochar application and effective training not only boosts sugarcane productivity but also supports local economic development and agricultural sustainability in Nagari Talang Babungo. This program aligns with local government policies aimed at enhancing food security and agricultural productivity, thus contributing to the region's overall development strategy.

Abstract

Soap has an important role in daily life, especially for cleaning hands from dirt, bacteria and germs caused by various activities. One plant that has great potential in making soap is Aloe vera (aloe vera). The saponin content in Aloe vera has natural antibacterial properties, making it the right choice as a raw material for making soap. Apart from being beneficial for skin health, the use of Aloe vera can also contribute to preserving the environment. In Sijunjung Regency, the use of Aloe vera-based soap is still not popular, especially among the public. Therefore, this service program aims to introduce the benefits of Aloe vera to the community and Bundo Kanduang, so that they care more about health and the environment. Developing skills in utilizing the potential of Aloe vera for making soap can be the right choice to improve the household economy. The methods used in this activity include lectures, demonstrations, questions and answers, and guided practice. Evaluation of the results of the activity showed an increase in participants' knowledge, skills and motivation in preserving the environment by using Aloe vera as a natural soap base that is environmentally friendly and has economic value

Abstract

Nagari Paninjauan, located on the slopes of Mount Marapi in West Sumatra, faces significant agricultural challenges, particularly due to rising chemical fertilizer costs, which affect productivity and farmers' welfare. High dependency on chemical fertilizers has also harmed soil health and the environment. To address this, a community service team from UNP held a training on producing organic liquid fertilizer (POC) tailored for various plant growth stages, such as soil enhancement, vegetative, and generative phases, as well as making organic growth regulators, fungicides, and insecticides. The training included material presentation, hands-on practice, and application in farming fields. Results showed participants’ understanding of POC production rose from 43.8% to 86.7%, and awareness of agricultural waste’s economic value also improved. Although the training effectively increased farmers' skills in independently producing POC, further strategies are needed to enhance understanding of technical materials for greater environmental and economic impact.
