Abstract

This research examines the influence of post-positivism on science education in Indonesia, focusing on its implications for elementary schools. The study adopts a qualitative approach, utilizing literature review (library research) as its methodology to gather data from various relevant sources (Kartiningrum, 2015). Post-positivism, which emerged as a modification of positivism, challenges the notion of absolute scientific truth and emphasizes the importance of subjectivity in understanding reality. In the context of education, this philosophical shift promotes a more critical, reflective approach to teaching science, encouraging students to question, analyze, and think critically rather than accept scientific knowledge as fixed. However, the integration of post-positivism in Indonesian science education raises concerns, particularly regarding the potential sidelining of spiritual, moral, and ethical values that are deeply embedded in the educational system. As the curriculum becomes more focused on empirical evidence and scientific reasoning, there is a risk that these values could be overshadowed. Despite this, post-positivism offers several benefits, including fostering problem-solving skills and adaptability in students. By analyzing the role of post-positivism within the Indonesian education system, this study provides insight into the advantages and challenges of integrating this philosophical approach into science education, while also considering the balance needed between scientific inquiry and the preservation of cultural and spiritual values. The findings suggest that a careful, context-sensitive application of post-positivism is essential for fostering a holistic educational experience.

Abstract

This study explores the use of songs in self-directed learning (SDL) to enhance vocabulary acquisition among English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students. While vocabulary acquisition is essential in language learning, there is limited research on how students independently use songs outside the classroom to improve their vocabulary. This qualitative case study examines the experiences of two students from Universitas Muhammadiyah Kendari, focusing on their strategies, challenges, and perceived benefits of using songs for vocabulary development. Purposive sampling was used to select participants who had a strong interest and experience in using songs for language learning, ensuring relevant insights.Data were collected through in-depth interviews, where participants discussed their song selection process, vocabulary learning strategies, and the challenges they faced. Thematic analysis was applied to identify key themes, such as motivation, repetition, self-directed learning strategies, and challenges, including fast-paced lyrics and slang. The findings show that personal motivation plays a key role in song selection, with participants choosing songs that resonate emotionally and have clear lyrics. Repetition was vital for vocabulary retention, while self-directed strategies like looking up unfamiliar words online helped expand vocabulary. However, challenges such as fast-paced lyrics and slang required adaptations, such as slowing down songs or using supplementary resources. This study highlights the potential of songs as a tool in SDL for vocabulary acquisition, suggesting a balanced approach that integrates songs with other language learning methods. It provides practical insights for EFL educators considering the use of songs in language learning

Abstract

English is a medium for international communication and an essential language in extensive medical literature and research investigations, as seen by the numerous health books authored in English. The objective of this research is to investigate how English learning based on needs analysis affects the English language skills of nursing students. This research employed a pre-experimental approach to assess the impact of needs analysis-oriented English language instruction on nursing students' proficiency in English. This method was used as it enabled researchers to monitor alterations in students' English language proficiency post-intervention without necessitating a control group. The results of this study show that the mean scores were different; in the pretest, it was 31.45, while in the posttest, it was 69.65. This means that the students' English achievement in the posttest mean score was higher than the pretest. The posttest mean score is higher than the pretest mean score; the increase was 38.20. Besides that, the probability value was smaller than the level of significance 0.05. In conclusion, there is a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores. The authors hope that the English nursing book used in this study will be useful to many people
