Abstract

This study presents a literature review on the implementation of cooperative learning models in Social Studies instruction at elementary schools. The research focuses on identifying the impact of various cooperative learning models, including Jigsaw, STAD, TGT, NHT, Make A Match, and Picture and Picture, on students’ academic and social outcomes. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, articles were selected based on inclusion criteria emphasizing the use of cooperative learning to improve cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects of student learning. The review reveals that cooperative learning consistently enhances students’ understanding of concepts, critical thinking skills, learning motivation, active participation, and collaboration abilities. The effectiveness of these models is further strengthened when supported by interactive media, such as PowerPoint or visual-based strategies. Findings indicate that cooperative learning not only improves academic achievement but also fosters active, collaborative, and socially competent learners. These results demonstrate that cooperative learning aligns with the objectives of twenty-first-century education by promoting both cognitive and social development in elementary students, offering practical implications for designing more engaging and meaningful Social Studies learning experiences.

Abstract

This classroom action research aimed to examine the effectiveness of the dubbing muted animation movie clip technique in improving the English-speaking skills of students in the Upper Intermediate Kids Class at GRACE English Course. The study was conducted in two cycles, involving 12 students, through the implementation of dubbing activities using selected animated clips. Data were collected through speaking tests that assessed pronunciation, intonation, fluency, accuracy, and vocabulary. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students' speaking skills across all assessed aspects. The mean speaking score increased from 71.58 in the pre-research phase to 93.80 in the second cycle. Moreover, the t-test result (19.16 > 2.608) confirmed the statistical significance of this improvement. These results suggest that the dubbing technique creates an engaging, low-anxiety environment that supports speaking practice through mimicry, repetition, and contextualized interaction, making it an effective pedagogical strategy for enhancing young learners’ oral English proficiency.

Abstract

Poetry is an expressive medium imbued with profound symbols and meanings, particularly within the classical Islamic literary tradition. One popular poem attributed to Imam Syafi'i raises the theme of wandering, explicitly encouraging one to leave one's hometown in search of knowledge, experience, and character development. This article aims to examine the poem through a semiotic approach to uncover the symbolic representation of wandering as a process of self-transformation. The research method used is a qualitative-descriptive approach with Roland Barthes's semiotic analysis at the levels of denotation, connotation, and myth, complemented by Michael Riffaterre's approach through the mechanisms of displacing, distorting, and creating of meaning. The analysis shows that symbols such as flowing water, a lion leaving its den, an arrow, and the sun represent the values of dynamism, courage, potential, and change. Wandering in this context is not merely a change of place, but an existential journey toward intellectual and spiritual maturity. These symbols also reflect the principles of Islamic education that emphasize the importance of the mobility of knowledge and manners. These findings indicate that Imam Syafi'i's poetry has philosophical depth and an indirect expression structure that is relevant in shaping the character of lifelong learners.

Abstract

This research focuses on the development and evaluation of the English for Cultural Voices coursebook, designed to integrate Indonesian folktales into English language teaching for secondary school students under Kurikulum Merdeka. The study explores how culturally contextualized materials can enhance language acquisition, promote cultural understanding, and foster autonomous learning. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the coursebook by gathering feedback from Indonesian English teachers regarding its content, structure, and applicability in real classroom settings. A qualitative research design using a case study approach was employed, with participants drawn from the Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran (MGMP) community in Bangka Barat, Pangkal Pinang. Data were collected through document analysis, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), and questionnaires. The document analysis focused on assessing the coursebook’s cultural relevance, structure, and content. FGDs provided in-depth insights into teachers' perceptions of the coursebook's impact on student engagement and language development, while questionnaires offered quantitative data on its effectiveness. The data were analyzed using Miles, Huberman, and Saldana’s framework for data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The study found that the coursebook significantly enhanced student engagement, improved speaking and vocabulary skills, and supported autonomous learning. However, challenges such as the complexity of narrative structures and limited access to technology were identified. This research contributes to the field of curriculum development by offering practical insights into the integration of cultural content and digital tools in language teaching

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the linguistic accuracy and cultural representation in English descriptive texts in a Batik museum in Indonesia. Employing a qualitative method, data were collected through documentation, and interviews with museum staff. The findings reveal recurring grammatical issues, such as article omission, word misordering, and awkward phrasing, which affect clarity and professionalism. Culturally, many texts lack depth, providing only names and origins of batik without explaining symbolic or historical context. Some translations are overly literal and fail to capture natural English expression, limiting international visitors’ understanding. The study highlights the need for improved linguistic quality and cultural depth in museum texts. It recommends strategies like transcreation and collaboration with language experts to produce informative, accurate, and culturally sensitive content for a global audience.

Abstract

This study explores the personal journey of an Indonesia student, pseudonymously named Arka, as he developed English-speaking competence through a combination of environmental immersion, emotional resilience, and strategic learning behaviors. Using a narrative inquiry approach and grounded in Oxfords (1990) language learning strategy framework, this research highlights how Arka evolved from a disinterested English learner in junior high school to a confident, fluent speaker and top graduate in English Education. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, document analysis, and peer verification to ensure validity. The findings reveal that Arkas language development was shaped by a dynamic use of direct and indirect learning strategies, including memory, cognitive, compensation, metacognitive, affective, and social strategies. his experience underscores the critical role of learning environments, personal motivation, and emotional regulation in mastering English-speaking skills. This research offers practical insights for language teachers, learners, and researchers by demonstrating how individual experiences and self-directed strategy use can bridge the gap between classroom instruction and real-world communicative competence.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the direct influence of organizational climate, work motivation, and job satisfaction on the performance of teachers at SD Negeri Gugus 1 Suka Damai, Lembah Seulawah District, and to build a causal relationship model between these variables. The approach used is quantitative with a causal design. Data collection used a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability, while the analysis was carried out using path analysis techniques. The results of the study showed that organizational climate had a significant effect on teacher job satisfaction (r = 0.352; 12.3%), as well as work motivation (r = 0.298; 8%). Organizational climate also had a direct effect on teacher performance (r = 0.621; 38.5%), followed by the influence of work motivation (r = 0.328; 10.7%) and job satisfaction (r = 0.710; 50.4%). The relationship model between exogenous and endogenous variables that was built was proven to be empirically valid. These findings indicate that improving organizational climate, work motivation, and job satisfaction can effectively encourage improved teacher performance. Therefore, strengthening these three aspects is highly recommended in efforts to improve the quality of education in elementary schools.
