Abstract

This study analyzed content of 30 included previous published research articles from 2020 to 2024 focusing on how using songs can help improve EFL students’ pronunciation in tertiary education. Using different online tools like WhatsApp, Google Classroom, YouTube, Spotify, Joox, and TikTok to teach pronunciation through English songs, the results show that using songs in class played through those platforms helps EFL students improve important parts of pronunciation, such as sounds, stress, tone, rhythm, and how words connect when they speak. Besides, songs also help students copy native speakers, listen better, stay motivated, and feel less nervous when speaking. Among the tools studied, Spotify was used the most and worked best because it has features like matching lyrics and lets students learn on their own. This research gives teachers and language experts ideas on how to use songs and digital tools to make pronunciation lessons more effective for English learners.

Abstract

Despite growing interest in digital communication and pragmatic development, limited research has examined how everyday family WhatsApp interactions contribute to EFL learners’ sociolinguistic growth. Addressing this gap, the present study investigates how humor, politeness, and intimacy shape learners’ communicative development in home-based digital environments. Employing a qualitative, micro-longitudinal ethnographic design, the study involved three EFL learners who regularly interacted with siblings and parents through WhatsApp. Data were drawn from screenshots and exported chat logs, supported by field notes and reflexive journals documenting contextual details. Data analysis combined Thematic Analysis, Computer-Mediated Discourse Analysis, and sociopragmatic frameworks to trace patterns across six months. Results reveal clear developmental trajectories: blunt humor and unmitigated requests gradually declined, while affiliative humor, indirect requests, supportive moves, and structured confirmation strategies increased. Intimacy emerged as a key factor mediating pragmatic flexibility, and digital affordances such as emojis and laughter tokens played an important role in meaning-making. These findings highlight the value of everyday digital communication as a rich environment for sociolinguistic development and suggest practical implications for EFL pedagogy, emphasizing the integration of naturalistic CMC-based activities in pragmatic instruction.

Abstract

Dance performance is a form of artistic work that goes through a complex creative process, beginning with pre-performance, continuing through the performance itself, and followed by post-performance stages. This study aims to describe the series of creative processes involved in dance performance by analyzing research themes, methods used, and findings from previous studies. A qualitative narrative literature review approach was applied to twelve journals indexed in Google Scholar, published between 2015 and 2025. The research themes include the creation of dances based on local wisdom, character building, performance evaluation, cultural preservation, as well as production management and the evaluation of performing arts. Most of the studies employed descriptive qualitative methods with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The analysis shows that the creative process of dance performance is strongly influenced by collaboration among artists, in-depth post-performance reflection, and holistic management that supports the sustainability of artistic works. This study provides both theoretical and practical contributions to the development of contemporary dance, while also identifying opportunities for further research related to innovation and management in the performing arts.

Abstract

This study investigated the role of the YouGlish website in teaching and learning English pronunciation. Using a qualitative descriptive design, the study was conducted with twelfth-grade students of SMAN 1 Sakra (class XII I). The data were collected through observation, questionnaires, and interview, and were analyzed thematically. The findings show that YouGlish encourages students to actively listen, repeat, and imitate native-like pronunciation, which increases their confidence and motivation. However, despite these benefits, the students also faced difficulties with suprasegmental features, accent variations, and technical issues. To overcome these challenges, they used strategies such as replaying videos, taking notes, and practicing with peers. This study concludes that YouGlish is a useful supplementary tool for pronunciation learning, especially when supported by teacher guidance and consistent practice.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the strategies used by teachers in teaching speaking skills at SMP Negeri 3 Lolofitu Moi and to determine how teachers choose the strategies used in the learning process. This study uses a qualitative research method with a descriptive qualitative type. Research data were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation of English teachers and students. The research instruments consisted of observation sheets and interview guidelines used to collect information related to the application of speaking learning strategies in the classroom. The collected data were analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing techniques. The results showed that the dominant strategies used by teachers were group discussions and role-playing. These strategies were proven to encourage students to be more active, confident, and able to express their ideas in English. Teachers also provided clear instructions, practical examples, and created a supportive classroom atmosphere so that students were more motivated to speak. In addition, teachers adjusted learning strategies according to student needs and classroom conditions. However, the variety of strategies was still limited, so it was recommended that teachers develop other strategies such as storytelling, simple debates, language games, and digital media to enrich the learning experience of students.

Abstract

Learner motivation is a crucial aspect in English language learning, particularly in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) contexts where exposure to the target language is limited. The present study explores the multifaceted concept of learner motivation, its definitions, types, influencing and demotivating factors, and effective strategies for enhancement. Drawing on key theoretical frameworks such as Self-Determination Theory (Deci & Ryan) and Gardner’s socio-educational model, motivation is discussed as both an intrinsic and extrinsic process that directs learners’ effort toward achieving language goals. Integrative and instrumental orientations are also examined to highlight how social and practical goals shape language learning behavior. The study compares demotivating influences like inadequate instruction, uninteresting materials, and unfavorable attitudes with motivating elements including personality traits, age, gender, cultural background, teachers, and instructional materials. Empirical research from diverse EFL contexts shows that motivation flourishes in classrooms that are encouraging, engaging, and autonomous. Sustaining long-term engagement requires teachers to be able to use a variety of motivational techniques, such as developing learner autonomy, integrating pertinent content, and generating pleasant classroom climates. The study comes to the conclusion that pedagogical awareness and culturally sensitive instruction must actively foster motivation as a situational and individual construct.
