Abstract

Senduro Market, located in Lumajang District, is a bustling hub of economic activity. This research aims to explore how local wisdom and Islamic values shape buying and selling interactions in this market. By employing a qualitative field research approach, including direct observation and participatory observation, the study aims to understand the role of local knowledge in fostering harmony and tolerance among market participants. The findings reveal that local wisdom, such as mutual cooperation and deliberation, combined with Islamic economic values, like honesty, fairness, and respect, play a crucial role in maintaining strong social relations within the market community.

Abstract

Megengan adalah sebuah tradisi yang dilakukan oleh masyarakat di beberapa daerah di Indonesia, khususnya di Jawa, sebagai bentuk ungkapan syukur dan permohonan berkah kepada Tuhan. Tradisi ini biasanya dilaksanakan menjelang bulan Ramadan, dan memiliki berbagai makna serta ritual yang berkaitan dengan agama dan kearifan lokal. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menggali dan menganalisis kearifan lokal yang terkandung dalam tradisi ‘Megengan’, sebagai upaya dalam meningkatkan nilai-nilai Islam dalam menjaga harmoni dan toleransi antarwarga. Metode penelitian bersifat kualitatif pendekatan studi pustaka dan analisis data berdasarkan model Miles dan Huberman, dengan mengumpulkan dan menganalisis data dari berbagai sumber literatur yang relevan mengenai tradisi serta kearifan lokal terkait. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tradisi Megengan berfungsi sebagai ritual keagamaan yang memperkuat solidaritas sosial, mengajarkan nilai-nilai seperti gotong royong, rasa kebersamaan, serta penghormatan terhadap alam, yang sejalan dengan ajaran Islam. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah bahwa Megengan merupakan cerminan kearifan lokal yang tidak hanya melestarikan budaya, tetapi juga meningkatkan nilai-nilai Islam, sehingga dapat dijadikan contoh dalam menjaga harmoni dan toleransi di era globalisasi.

Abstract

This research examines local wisdom through the megengan tradition in encouraging economic activities in Nganjuk, East Java. Megengan, which is a tradition leading up to Ramadan that involves various social and cultural activities, has the potential to support the local economy. This tradition not only fosters social values and local economic practices, but can also enhance Islamic values through cultural engagement. The method used is a qualitative approach with interviews and participatory observation to collect data from the local community. The result of the analysis is that the Megengan tradition not only strengthens cultural identity, but also encourages economic activities through increased demand for local products such as food, vegetables, groceries and others. In addition, participation in Megengan activities can increase small business actors to expand networks and income. This study concludes that local wisdom through traditional practices has an important role in the economic development of communities in Nganjuk.

Abstract

Religious tolerance is an important element in maintaining social harmony, especially in a plural society, such as Indonesia. Prophet Ibrahim's dialogue with his father in QS. Maryam: 42−48 is an example of religious tolerance. In these verses, Prophet Ibrahim shows the firmness of his faith, but still upholds a polite and respectful attitude towards his father, who has different beliefs. This paper aims to examine the values of religious tolerance shown through the dialogue of Prophet Ibrahim in these verses. This research is a library research using thematic interpretation method. The focus of the theme in this study is the value of religious tolerance in QS. Maryam: 42−48 which is then associated with the context of a plural society. From this analysis, there are three principles in building religious tolerance in a plural society, namely polite communication, respect for individual belief choices, and maintaining social relations despite different beliefs.

Abstract

Wetu Telu is a religious tradition practised by the Sasak people of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), which combines elements of Islamic teachings with local traditional practices. The term ‘Wetu Telu’ literally means ‘three times,’ referring to the three times of worship that are considered important in their religious practices. This article aims to explore Wetu Telu practices in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) as a form of harmony and tolerance in a multicultural society. This research is qualitative in nature, using the literature study method and data analysis based on the Miles and Huberman model. Data was collected through analysis of documents, books, articles, and other related sources that discuss Wetu Telu and intercultural interaction in NTB. The uniqueness of this research lies in the emphasis on the synergy between the Wetu Telu tradition and the values of tolerance in a diverse society. The results show that Wetu Telu practices not only function as religious rituals but also as a means to strengthen interfaith and cultural relations. Wetu Telu teaches respect for differences and the importance of harmony, which is the foundation in maintaining social stability in NTB. In conclusion, Wetu Telu practices in NTB reflect values of harmony and tolerance that can serve as a model for other regions in facing multicultural challenges. This research provides new insights into how local traditions can play a role in building an inclusive and peaceful society.

Abstract

Sufism, the embodiment of ihsan, emphasizes respect for all creatures, regardless of background. It promotes tolerance and peace, aligning with the Islamic principle of rahmatan li al-'alamin. Peace education, a core component of Sufism, fosters respect for differences, tolerance, and mutual understanding. This study explores the implementation of Sufism education at the Ahlus Shafa wal Wafa Islamic boarding school. The school utilizes various activities, including Sufism book studies, socio-religious activities, ubudiyah practices, Islamic art, and interfaith dialogue. These activities strengthen Islamic brotherhood, national brotherhood, and universal brotherhood, ultimately fostering peace education and religious moderation.

Abstract

This article aims to explore the implementation of religious values in strengthening religious moderation through Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at SDIT Mutiara Ilmu Bangkalan. The method used is a qualitative descriptive approach with case studies. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation and documentation. The research results show that SDIT Mutiara Ilmu Bangkalan implements learning strategies to strengthen attitudes of religious moderation including direct learning, dialogue, and familiarization with practices that contain elements of religious moderation. The research results also show that students show a good understanding of religious moderation and more tolerant behavior and respect for differences. Based on these findings, it also indicates that Islamic Religious Education not only functions to increase religious knowledge, but also plays an important role in forming moderate and inclusive student attitudes. It is hoped that this research can contribute to the development of Islamic religious education that is more moderate and adaptive to the challenges of a pluralistic society. Abstract

The Pesantren Hamalatul Qur'an Jombang offers a unique blend of religious tradition and worship rituals. This study, using qualitative and Living Qur'an research methods, delves into the community's daily practice of bringing the Qur'an to life. A key finding is the mandatory nightly tahajud prayer khataman activity, where students and worshippers recite 1/2 juz of the Qur'an collectively. This practice fosters a sense of community and loyalty to the pesantren's traditions. It also cultivates spiritual growth and seeks divine blessings for the students' Qur'an memorization journey. This harmonization of religious tradition and worship rituals demonstrates the pesantren's commitment to both individual spiritual development and collective community building. By integrating these practices, the pesantren creates a vibrant and inspiring environment for its students and the broader community.

Abstract

Jember society is reported to have a lack of awareness of maintaining the environment and sustaining local wisdom in school. It is essential to implement the Adiwiyata Program for madrassa ibtidaiyah students since at this age pupils tend to absorb knowledge as well as habits strongly and this type of school also teaches Islamic virtues. This article aims to narrate the Adiwiyata Program on emancipated learning at Madrassa Ibtidaiyah 45 Paseban-Kencong and State Madrassa Ibtidaiyah 2 Balung-Jember. This research used a qualitative method with a case study to describe the Adiwiyata Program supported by observation, interview, and documentation data. The results of this study explained that students can strengthen local wisdom through four indicators: 1) environmentally sustainable policy; 2) environmentally-based curriculum implementation; 3) participatory environment-based activities; and 4) environmentally friendly support facilities management. These schools applied those indicators on emancipated learning for madrassa ibtidaiyah students in grades 1st to 6th.

Abstract

The ogoh-ogoh parade tradition is held every year in Surabaya to welcome the Nyepi Day of Hindus. All six religious communities participated in that celebration process. Uniquely, the ogoh-ogoh parade which is usually held at the temples, now has expanded on Surabaya center and become a source of harmony. This study aims to describe interfaith harmony and tolerance in Surabaya through the ogoh-ogoh parade tradition. This research used a qualitative method with anthropological approach and focused on tolerance education values. The techniques used are observation, interview, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that the form of harmony created is the participation of all six religious communities in Surabaya during the ogoh-ogoh parade. This year, the ogoh-ogoh parade coincided with Ramadhan for Muslims, so it became a moment to strengthen interfaith tolerance in Surabaya. The Hindus can perform their parade smoothly and Non-Hindus also feel entertained by that parade.
