Abstract

The Ancak Agung tradition represents one of the enduring religious and social rituals preserved by the Madurese community as an expression of gratitude and solidarity. This study aims to understand Ancak Agung as an arena of social communication that reflects the power relations, habitus, and cultural capital of its supporting community. Employing Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of social practice, this research examines how individuals and groups interact and interpret their social positions through symbols, rituals, and participation within the tradition. The study adopts a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing participatory observation and in-depth interviews with religious leaders, committee members, and ritual participants. The findings reveal that Ancak Agung functions not only as a medium of worship and thanksgiving but also as an arena for the reproduction of cultural capital and the reinforcement of communal-religious habitus. Through symbolic practices and social communication, the values of love, mutual cooperation, and interfaith tolerance naturally flourish, affirming the tradition as an instrument of social harmony within the framework of Islam Nusantara

Abstract

This study explores the GLAM-based management (Gallery, Library, Archives, and Museum) of Islamic manuscripts in the UIN KHAS Jember Library as a sustainable effort to preserve local Islamic wisdom while contributing to global scholarly harmony. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach with case studies and document analysis of manuscript preservation practices. Findings indicate that GLAM provides a comprehensive framework for integrating conservation, digitization, and dissemination of manuscripts, transforming local heritage into global academic assets. Moreover, the approach enhances intercultural understanding, nurtures tolerance, and strengthens the relevance of Islamic scholarship in a pluralistic society. The study highlights the role of GLAM not only as a preservation tool but also as a strategic model of educational management to bridge local wisdom and global harmony

Abstract

The tradition of the harvest parade held at the Prabu Anom Tomb complex in Kediri Regency is not only a cultural and spiritual event, but also has significant socio-economic dimensions for the community. This study aims to examine the values of harmony contained in the procession and how this tradition can be a medium for improving the economy of the community. This study uses a qualitative approach with ethnographic methods. The results show that the mountain parade not only preserves local wisdom and strengthens social cohesion, but also creates a space for economic interaction, especially for small traders, MSMEs, and local tourism actors. Community participation in this activity demonstrates the synergy between religious, cultural, and economic dimensions that give rise to social harmony. Thus, the gunungan procession at the Tomb of Prabu Anom is not merely a symbol of respect for ancestral traditions, but also a strategy for community empowerment based on local wisdom that is oriented towards the economic sustainability of the community

Abstract

The current inquiry examines Bubur Suro (locally known as Tajhin Sora in Madura), an integral element of the Ashura tradition within the Bondowoso community. Beyond its physical form as a culinary dish, this tradition functions as a complex cultural artifact imbued with symbolic, historical, and social dimensions. This article aims to uncover the symbolic constructions, historical meanings, and social functions of Tajhin Sora in the context of the Islamic New Year. Utilizing a qualitative approach, the investigation gathered data through participant observation of rituals in East Java, in-depth interviews with cultural and religious leaders, and a comprehensive literature review. The findings reveal that Tajhin Sora serves as a material symbol of gratitude and spiritual victory, with historical narratives tracing back to the era of Prophet Noah. Socially, the ritual acts as a catalyst for social cohesion, intergenerational value transmission, and the reinforcement of Bondowoso’s cultural identity. The present analysis concludes that Tajhin Sora is a profound "living tradition" that continuously reproduces religious and socio-cultural values amidst modern shifts. Ultimately, the preservation of this tradition demonstrates the resilience of local culture in maintaining fundamental meanings within a contemporary framework

Abstract

This study analyzes the semantic meaning of the motto “Bhinneka Tunggal Ika” from the perspectives of Islam and local wisdom, which later became the basis for the motto of nationhood, statehood, and religion in Indonesia. Semantics itself uses a linguistic approach in analyzing the meaning of diversity in Indonesia. The Islamic perspective and local wisdom in diversity are interpreted as a strong foundation that underlies it and the aspects of local wisdom that are built upon it. Based on the above, the research question is: How is the semantics of “Bhinneka Tunggal Ika” understood in Islam and local cultural values in Indonesia? The purpose of this study is to explore the harmony between the principles of statehood in diversity and Islamic values and local traditions. The research method used in this study is qualitative, with semantic analysis and literature review. The results show that the spirit of “Bhinneka Tunggal Ika” is in harmony with the concept of ukhuwah in Islam and the values of mutual cooperation, tolerance, and harmony in Indonesian local culture. In conclusion, the motto of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika is not only a symbol of statehood, but also has a semantic meaning, reflecting universal values that are able to unite diversity through an Islamic approach and local wisdom

Abstract

Ter-ater is a preserved tradition in Madura, namely the custom of delivering food to neighbours or relatives at certain moments, with certain types of dishes as a representation of local wisdom adapted to Islamic values. This study aims to describe the internalization of Islamic values contained in the ter-ater, such as friendship, social concern, and the spirit of sharing, as well as its impact on strengthening social harmony through elements of trust, reciprocity, and social networks among multicultural communities. This study uses a qualitative approach with an ethnographic study method in the urban community of Bangkalan, particularly the residents of Bangkalan Indah, Mlajah Village, Bangkalan District, which has religious and ethnic diversity. The results show that the ter-ater serves as a medium for strengthening brotherhood and a means of building harmony. The Islamic values embodied in this tradition foster tolerance and maintain harmony among residents. Ter-ater has been proven to expand social networks and strengthen solidarity, making it a religious-cultural instrument that not only preserves local heritage but is also relevant in strengthening harmony and tolerance in a multicultural society

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) serve as vital institutions for both religious education and socio-economic empowerment. This study investigates the integration of Islamic values and Madurese local culture in fostering socio-economic harmony at Pondok Pesantren Nazhatut Thullab Sampang. Adopting a mixed-methods approach, quantitative data from 60 respondents were analyzed using SEM-PLS, complemented by qualitative insights from seven key informants. Findings reveal that Islamic values—particularly honesty (shiddiq) and trustworthiness (amanah)—significantly contribute to socio-economic harmony (β = 0.435), while local cultural values such as hard work (karkar colpe) and religiosity (abantal sadhat, apajung Alla, asapo’ salawat) exert a slightly stronger influence (β = 0.521). The synergy of both value systems cultivates ethical, just, and barakah-oriented economic practices. Through the One Pesantren One Product (OPOP) initiative, the pesantren successfully harmonizes spiritual and material dimensions, illustrating how faith-based institutions can promote sustainable socio-economic development grounded in local wisdom.
