Abstract

The digital era leaves problems of credibility and authenticity for those who memorize the Qur'an. The question of credibility could be seen by the decrease in the quality of reading, such as makharij and tajwid. In contrast, the question of authentication is evidenced by the low quality of students' memorization. This study aims to discuss the implications of the Sima’an Ahad Pahing activity on students’ memorization at PPTQ Al-Hasan Ponorogo. This study departs from cognitive, affective, and psychomotoric problems with the reinforcement of the psychological theory of behaviorism developed by John Watson. This study uses a qualitative method with a psychological approach. Data sources were obtained through interviews with 1 kiai, 4 ustadz, and 5 students. The analysis used in this study is Huberman & Saldana, which includes three steps, namely data compaction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that implicitly the Sima’an at PPTQ Al-Hasan Ponorogo provided a new method for maintaining the credibility and authenticity of the students' memorization.

Abstract

Fida’an is an activity carried out by Javanese Muslims after the death of one of their community member. The activity consists of reciting the Quranic verses of al-Ikhlas a thousand times or the tahlil up to 71.000 times which is addressed to the deceased to avoid the torment of the fires of hell and get holy rewards. This study seeks to find out the views of the people of Plosojenar Village, Kauman District, Ponorogo Regency regarding fida’an by inquiring (1) What and how is the practice of fida’an among people of Plosojenar? and (2) How do the people of Plosojenar associate fida’an practices with hadith texts? In this study, the authors used the method of observation, interviews, and documentation to obtain supporting data. The data analysis used was descriptive qualitative with a phenomenological approach to religion and anthropology of religious symbols by examining the concept of diversity in the symbols present in the ritual. The results of the study concluded that (1) the meaning of fida’an for the Plosojenar people is divided into two parts, namely burdening good deeds and freeing from the torment of hellfire; and (2) the community's view of fida’an is diverse such as getting rewards and guaranteed by Allah Swt to avoid hell, as well as the growth of togetherness, help, friendship and charity within the community.

Abstract

This study examines the concept of mahabah in the context of Indonesian cultural and religious diversity and its potential for promoting religious tolerance. The Indonesian nation is diverse, with multiple cultures and religions, which can be a great strength or source of conflict. The worst impact of conflicts between cultures and religions is the loss of tolerance between them. To promote interfaith tolerance in Indonesia, it is important to imply the concept of mahabah in socializing, which is interpreted as love/affection in every religion. Kiai Haji Hasyim Asy'ari is an Indonesian Muslim figure who has influenced the unity of the Indonesian nation, and this study explores his concept of mahabah and its actualization on religious tolerance. The library research method collects data by studying various literature, such as books, archives, and written works related to KH Hasyim Asy'ari. According to KH Hasyim Asy'ari, mahabah, in the context of Sufism, is the faith of a servant in his god by following the Quran and Sunnah. In the social context, the servant of God will give rise to tolerance, even between religious people. By exploring the concept of mahabah in the context of Indonesian cultural and religious diversity, this study seeks to promote religious tolerance and social harmony in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study discusses the channel of Islamization in the traditional treasures of Pesantren, Islamic boarding schools, especially on a book by Indonesian scholar namely Kiai Abul Fadhol, Ahla al-Musāmarah fī Hikāyāt al-Auliyā' al-'Asyrah. This research uses library research by going through the book's main sources and strengthened by books, articles, and other written sources. The results of the study show that the channel of Islamization in the review of the book is through: first, the medium of marriage, like The King to a Cempan lady and marriage between members of the Walisongo family, secondly, education centered at the Pesantren Ampel Denta which produces a network of students as well as the tasawuf approach among the congregation. Furthermore, regarding the term of Wali Sepuluh (Ten Saints) stated in the title, there is no significant difference between the characters intended by the author of the book and the Walisongo figure. From the text, it can be seen that Kiai Fadhol was a prolific scholar who argued that the collapse of the Majapahit Kingdom was due to an attack from the Demak Sultanate led by Raden Patah. Finally, we can found that the character of the da'wah developed includes good wisdom and calls.

Abstract

Kejawen culture in Indonesia, especially in Javanese society, has a close relationship with Islam. These two beliefs run side by side, but in fact there are boundaries between the Kejawen culture and the Islamic religion. The purpose of this research is to find out how the Kejawen culture and the Islamic religion are, the difference between the two, and what are the boundaries in Islamic life. This study uses a literature review approach and qualitative methods to provide a comprehensive picture of the topic under study. Through a literature review, the authors can compile findings from various sources and provide in-depth argumentation of evaluations. The results of the study show that Islam and Kejawen culture are two different things but have always coexisted and have been inherent in Javanese society for a long time. In addition, Kejawen culture and Islamic religion have limitations in their application that can be known by the general public, namely the application of Islamic religious values by adapting local culture without eliminating Islamic principles.

Abstract

This study was a survey of usage and understanding of archaisms of personal pronouns and verb endings in the King James Bible among the clergy and laity of selected churches within Ijebu-Ode metropolis of Ogun State, Nigeria. The study adopted the survey method with a sample size of 40 respondents selected via simple random sampling technique and 10 recorded homilies/liturgies from the selected churches cutting across the two major denominational blocs (Pentecostal and Protestant) using the King James Bible within Ijebu-Ode metropolis. Questionnaire was the main instrument used to obtain relevant information from the respondents who cut across various demographic groupings. Transcription served as the supporting instrument to gather pertinent data from the recorded homilies/liturgies. Thereafter, the descriptive method was employed in analysing the data gathered. The findings of the study enunciated the fact that archaisms of the King James Bible are still being used in churches through different platforms but majority of congregants lacked the proper understanding of the lexico-semantic and grammatical values of these archaisms. It is then recommended that clergymen should engage in thorough investigation into the KJV archaisms and the advantages they offer and educate their people accordingly, among other recommendations.
