Abstract

The study is concerning with experimental study which discussed the effect of planted question technique on students’ achievement in writing narrative text. It took place at SMP Pabaku Stabat. The subjects were the nineth grade students with the population of 132 students. 60 students were chosen as the sample and group into experimental and control group. Each group consisted of 30 students. The experimental group was taught with planted question technique while the control one was taught without planted question technique. A writing test was used to collect the data on the students’ writing ability. The data collected were analyzed by using t-test. The result of the data analysis showed that the t-observed was 6,53. It was higher that the value of t-table (tt) is 1,67 for 5% and 2,39 for 1%. This meant that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It can be concluded that there is effect of planted question technique on students’ achievement in writing narrative text of nineth grade of SMP Pabaku Stabat.

Abstract

The objective of this resarch was to find out the effect of using mind mapping technique on students’ writing descriptive text. This study applied quasi-experimental research. This study was conducted  of the tenth grade students’ of  SMA Swasta Taman Siswa Binjai as the population study. The sample was taken by using cluster random sampling, with 70 students as the sample. As the experimental class, the writer used class X-IPS 1 which consisted of 35 students and for the controlled class, the writer used class X-IPA 2 that consist of 35 students. The data collected from this study were analyzed by using t-test formula. The result from calculating the data was found that the value of t-observed ( ) was higher than the value of t-table ( ). The result  of  was  4,05 since the    in degree  of significant 5% was 1,66. It shows that the comparison of and   was 4,05  1,66. Therefore the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. In other words, there was an effect of using mind mapping technique on writing descriptive text at the tenth grade students’ of SMA Swasta Taman Siswa Binjai.

Abstract

This study deals with the effect of using mind mapping technique on students’ writing procedure text. The objective of this study was to find out if there was a significant effect of mind mapping technique on writing procedure text. It was conducted by using experimental research. The population of this study was the eleventh-grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Tanjung Pura which consists of six parallel classes. Two classes were taken as the sample of this research, XI MIA-1 and XI MIA-2. The class of XI MIA-1 was an experimental group and class XI MIA-2 was a control group. The experimental group was taught by mind mapping technique, otherwise the control group was taught by using lecturing technique. The instrument for collecting the data was writing test. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula. It was found that t-observed (5.98) higher than t-table (1.99). It means that there was a significant effect on students’ writing procedure text at SMA Negeri 1 Tanjung Pura by using mind mapping technique.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to describe whether or not using Board Game is effective in Teaching Speaking at The Tenth Grade Students of SMK Swasta Ypis Maju Binjai. The researchers use Board Game in teaching speaking at the Tenth Grade Students of SMK Swasta Ypis Maju Binjai. This is a pre-experimental research with one group pre-test and post-test design. In this research, the researchers take 25 at the Tenth Grade Students of SMK Swasta Ypis Maju Binjai as the sample among 73 students for its population. Then the researchers give pre-test and post-test by employing instruments that is oral test. The test is to measure the students speaking skill. The result of the research is the highest score of pretest is 84 and the lowest is 58. The highest score of posttest is 88 and the lowest is 72. The mean score of pre-test is 71.04. The mean score of post-test is 80.72. The result of t-test is higher than critical value. The score of t-test is -6.273 and the score of t-table is 2.010, it means that t-test is higher than t-table (-6.273 < 2.010). The score of t-test is 2.010 and the degree of freedom (df) was 24. For 5 % significance level and 24 degree of freedom, the critical value on T table is – 6.273. So, it can be said that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. To sum up, the hypothesis is accepted. It means that there is effective of using board game in teaching speaking at the Tenth Grade Students of SMK Swasta Ypis Maju Binjai.

Abstract

Experience, Generalization, Reinforcement, Application (EGRA) technique is suitable for teaching writing. Teaching writing using EGRA techniques executes the students are easier to develop stories based on their experiences. This study focused on investigating the implementation of the EGRA technique in understanding recount text by the students at SMPIT Al-Hijrah 2 Deli Serdang. Specifically, the objective of this study is to find out the effect of the EGRA technique on students' writing ability in recount text. This study employs a quasi-experimental design, including a pre-test and post-test control group design—the Eighth-grade students at SMPIT Al-Hijrah 2 Deli Serdang as the population of the study. The researchers selected two classes of Eighth-grade students as the sample of this study. The sample selection used random cluster sampling, specifically the Eight-grade Al-Karim as the experimental class, which consisted of 30 students, and the Eighth-grade VIII Al-Mughni as the control class, which consisted of 30 students.  The experimental class was taught using the EGRA technique, and the control class was taught using the conventional method. The data of this study were analyzed by using t-test formula. The result from calculating the data showed that the implementation of EGRA was effective to be applied in teaching students of the Eighth-grade students at SMPIT Al-Hijrah 2 Deli Serdang in writing recount text. In other words, it was revealed that the use of EGRA technique was effective enough to enhance the students' understanding in writing recount text. While the application of the conventional method was not effective in improving students' ability to understand recount text.Keywords: Writing, EGRA Technique, Understanding a Recount text

Abstract

Penelitian ini berkaitan dengan desain penelitian eksperimental yang mencari pengaruh Cognitive Strategy Instruction (CSI) pada pemahaman membaca siswa dalam teks laporan. Permasalahan yang penulis temukan adalah sebagian besar siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam memahami bacaan dan membutuhkan waktu yang lama untuk menemukan ide pokok dalam teks bacaan. Sebanyak 60 siswa kelas X SMA Swasta Melati Binjai tahun ajaran 2020/2021 diambil sebagai subjek penelitian. Tes membaca berupa pilihan ganda yang terdiri dari 20 item digunakan untuk memperoleh data tentang variabel. Data akhir kemudian dianalisis dengan menggunakan teknik analisis uji-t. Selain instrumen pengujian pemahaman siswa dalam membaca teks laporan yang dianalisis valid dengan melihat bahwa koefisien thitung (8,03) jauh lebih besar daripada koefisien ttabel (1,70113) dan juga dianalisis reliabel dengan melihat bahwa koefisien reliabilitas (0,907) jauh lebih besar daripada koefisien rtabel (0,3061); hal ini juga ditunjukkan melalui analisis uji-t bahwa koefisiennya tinggi dan signifikan dengan melihat koefisien thitung (3,24) lebih besar dari koefisien ttabel (1,70113). Artinya, terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan dari Cognitive Strategy Instruction (CSI) terhadap pemahaman membaca teks laporan pada siswa kelas X SMA Swasta Melati Binjai tahun ajaran 2020/2021. Dengan demikian hipotesis penelitian diterima.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to find out The Effect of Small Group Discussion Method on Students’ Ability in Reading Comprehension for the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA Tamansiswa Binjai. This study is Quasi experimental research. This study used a system of controlled class and experimental class, which acts as a controlled class benchmark basic ability student on reading comprehension without application of the method, while the experimental class was given Small Group Discussion Method. After knowing the mean obtained by the respondents in the controlled class of 49,71, it can be concluded that students' reading comprehension achievement is still low. In this study, students in the experimental class received treatment with the application of Small Group Discussion Method and it has been known that the mean data in the experimental class is 85.35, it can be concluded that students' reading cohesion achievement in the experimental class is good. Based on the calculation of validity test, it can conclude that the data has valid. Then based on the calculation of reliability of test, found that the data has reliable. After testing the homogeneity criteria of the data obtained in the controlled class and the experimental class, it has been found that the data obtained are homogeneous. After testing the data hypothesis criteria that have been obtained in the controlled class and experimental class, it has been found that the hypothesis is received, where tcount > ttable = 19.07 > 1.668, so it can be concluded that Small Group Discussion effects on Students’ Reading Comprehension Achievement of the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA Tamansiswa Binjai.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berkaitan dengan desain penelitian eksperimental yang bertujuan untuk mencari pengaruh video YouTube terhadap kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks eksposisi analitik. Sebanyak 60 siswa kelas X SMA Swasta Melati Binjai diambil sebagai subjek penelitian. Tes menulis berupa lima macam judul yang terdiri dari beberapa topik fenomenal dan digunakan untuk memperoleh data tentang variabel tersebut. Penulis meminta siswa untuk memilih hanya satu judul yang diberikan. Mereka menulis teks eksposisi analitis yang terdiri dari sekitar 100 kata selama sekitar 45 menit. Data akhir kemudian dianalisis dengan menggunakan teknik analisis uji-t bahwa hasilnya menunjukkan koefisien tinggi dan signifikan dengan melihat koefisien thitung (3,055) lebih besar dari koefisien ttabel (1,70113). Artinya ada pengaruh video YouTube terhadap kemampuan menulis teks eksposisi analitik pada siswa kelas X SMA Swasta Melati Binjai. Dengan demikian hipotesis penelitian diterima.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berkaitan dengan desain penelitian eksperimental yang mencari pengaruh strategi PQ4R (Preview, Question, Read, Reflect, Recite, Review) terhadap pemahaman siswa dalam membaca teks recount. Sebanyak 60 siswa kelas X SMA Swasta Melati Binjai diambil sebagai subjek penelitian. Selain instrumen tes membaca yang dianalisis valid dengan melihat bahwa koefisien thitung (3,224) lebih besar dari koefisien ttabel (1,70113) dan juga dianalisis reliabel dengan melihat bahwa koefisien reliabilitas (0,682) lebih besar dari pada koefisien rtabel (0,3061); hal ini juga menunjukkan bahwa varians data antara kedua kelompok homogen dengan melihat bahwa koefisien Fhitung (1,138) lebih kecil dari koefisien yang sesuai pada Ftabel (2,55) serta melalui analisis uji-t koefisiennya tinggi dan signifikan dengan melihat bahwa koefisien thitung (2,555) lebih besar dari koefisien ttabel (1,70113). Artinya, ada pengaruh penggunaan strategi PQ4R (Preview, Question, Read, Reflect, Recite, Review) terhadap pemahaman bacaan siswa pada teks recount. Dengan demikian hipotesis penelitian diterima.

Abstract

Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian eksperimental yang mencari pengaruh penggunaan teknik freewriting terhadap kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks eksposisi analitik. Permasalahan yang berhasil diidentifikasi penulis di antaranya adalah siswa masih kekurangan kosakata dan belum dapat mengungkapkan gagasannya dalam bentuk tulisan dengan baik terutama pada teks eksposisi analitik. Apalagi, nilai menulis mereka masih rendah. Selain itu, mereka tidak fokus dan jenuh saat menulis eksposisi analitik. Terakhir, teknik mengajar yang digunakan guru masih kurang menyenangkan bagi siswa. Subjek penelitian diambil 76 siswa di kelas XI SMA Swasta Harapan Bangsa Kuala tahun ajaran 2020/2021. Tes menulis berupa lima macam judul yang terdiri dari beberapa topik fenomenal digunakan untuk memperoleh data tentang variabel tersebut. Penulis meminta siswa memilih hanya satu judul yang diberikan. Mereka menulis eksposisi analitis yang terdiri dari sekitar 100 kata selama sekitar 45 menit. Data akhir kemudian dianalisis dengan menggunakan teknik analisis uji-t bahwa koefisiennya tinggi dan signifikan dengan melihat koefisien thitung (2,956) lebih besar dari koefisien ttabel (1,68830). Artinya ada pengaruh yang signifikan dari penggunaan teknik freewriting terhadap kemampuan menulis teks eksposisi analitik siswa kelas XI SMA Swasta Harapan Bangsa Kuala tahun ajaran 2020/2021. Dengan demikian hipotesis penelitian diterima.
