Abstract

The objective of the study is to know the significant effect of using RAP Strategy on Students’ Comprehension in Reading Narrative Text at the Eleventh Grade of SMK Swasta Putra Jaya Stabat. The strategy used in this study was a quantitative method using quasi-experimental. Two classes were taken as the sample of the study with 35 students in each class. The classes were designed as an experimental class and a controlled class. The experimental class was taught by implementing Read, Ask, Paraphrase (RAP) strategy while the controlled class was taught without using conventional method. The students’ population at the are SMK Swasta Putra Jaya Stabat 105 students, and the samples were 70 students (35 students for experimental class and 35 students for controlled class). The sampling technique that used was random sampling. Moreover, this research was conducted through the following procedures: giving pre-test, applying treatments and giving post-test. The data analyzed in this research was gained through multiple choice. The result of the conclusion that in testing the hypothesis, the value of Rcount>alpha. Has been known the alpha is 0,05, then  0,0718 > 0,05. It concluded the hypothesis is accepted, so it can be concluded that treatment with Read, Ask, Paraphrase (RAP) strategy on Students’ Comprehension at the Eleventh Grade of Smk Swasta Putra Jaya Stabat.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out whether there was a significant effect of using REAP (Read, Encode, Annotate, Ponder) on students’ reading comprehension in analitycal exposition text of the eleventh grade of SMK Swasta Harapan Stabat in academic year 2019/2020. In this research, the researcher took 80 students as the sample. As the experimental class, the researcher used class XI.1 ADP which consisted of 40 students and for the control class, the researcher used class XI.4 ADP that consist of 40 students. The, the researcher gave pre-test and post-test to both classes.The researcher then statistically analyzed the data by using t-test. After analyzing the data, the researcher concluded that teaching analytical exposition text using REAP method was effective. As the fact, the result of t-test was 2,86 with df = 78. Because there was not df 78 in the t-table, so the researcher decided to use df 60 since it is closer to 78 than df 120.The table at df 60 showed that the value of t-table (  was 2,00 for 5% and 2,66 for 1%. Theoritically, the Alternative Hypothesis ( ) was accepted if the value of t-test was greater than the value of t-table ( > ( . The finding showed that t-test was greater than t-table (2,86 > 2,00 and 2,66). The researcher meant the hypothesis ( ) was accepted. It was stated that “There is a significant effect of using REAP method on students’ reading comprehension in analytical exposition text of the eleventh grade students of SMK Swasta Harapan Stabat in academic year 2019/2020” was accepted.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berkaitan dengan desain penelitian eksperimental yang mencari pengaruh strategi PQ4R (Preview, Question, Read, Reflect, Recite, Review) terhadap pemahaman siswa dalam membaca teks recount. Sebanyak 60 siswa kelas X SMA Swasta Melati Binjai diambil sebagai subjek penelitian. Selain instrumen tes membaca yang dianalisis valid dengan melihat bahwa koefisien thitung (3,224) lebih besar dari koefisien ttabel (1,70113) dan juga dianalisis reliabel dengan melihat bahwa koefisien reliabilitas (0,682) lebih besar dari pada koefisien rtabel (0,3061); hal ini juga menunjukkan bahwa varians data antara kedua kelompok homogen dengan melihat bahwa koefisien Fhitung (1,138) lebih kecil dari koefisien yang sesuai pada Ftabel (2,55) serta melalui analisis uji-t koefisiennya tinggi dan signifikan dengan melihat bahwa koefisien thitung (2,555) lebih besar dari koefisien ttabel (1,70113). Artinya, ada pengaruh penggunaan strategi PQ4R (Preview, Question, Read, Reflect, Recite, Review) terhadap pemahaman bacaan siswa pada teks recount. Dengan demikian hipotesis penelitian diterima.

Abstract

This study aimed to find out whether using English Slang Words affects students’ speaking skill of the 2018/2019 tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Hinai Kabupaten Langkat. In this study, using English slang words as the independent variable (X) and students’ speaking skill as the dependent variable (Y), with the hypothesis: using English slang words significantly affects students’ speaking skill of the 2018/2019 tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Hinai Kabupaten Langkat . The population of this study was the 2018/2019 tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Hinai Kabupaten Langkat. Which consisted of 154 students. The sample was taken buy using cluster random sampling, that consist of 81 students. Then, the sample was divided into two groups, the group taught by using English slang words was as the experimental group and the group taught without Englih slang words was as the control group. The writer used interview test as the instrument of collecting data. The data was analyzed by using t-test formula. Based on the data analysis, it was found that the value of t-observed (t0) was higher than the value of t-table, (tobserved = 7,47 > ttable = 2,00). Therefore, the hypothesis proposed by the writer was accepted. In the other words, using English Slang Words significantly affects the students’ speaking skill of the 2018/2019 tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Hinai Kabupaten Langkat.Keywords: English slang words, speaking skill

Abstract

Pengabdian Masyarakat Tahun 2021 dilakukan di Desa Karang Gading, Kecamatan Secanggang, Kabupaten Langkat. Pada program pengabdian masyarakat tersebut kami melaksanakan banyak program kerja, salah satunya yaitu pendampingan belajar kepada anak-anak di Dusun Pasar II Desa Karang Gading. Lembaga bimbingan belajar di luar sekolah menjadi alternatif para siswa untuk mendapatkan materi yang belum diajarkan di sekolah (Dwi, 2013). Keputusan untuk mengikutsertakan anak di lembaga kursus atau bimbingan belajar merupakan keputusan yang tepat bagi anak-anak. Di sana mereka bisa memperoleh ilmu yang tidak sempat diajarkan oleh guru di sekolah. Akan tetapi, tidak semua anak bisa mengikuti les ataupun bimbingan belajar. Hal tersebut terjadi di lingkungan tempat tinggal anak di Dusun Pasar II Desa Karang Gading, Kecamatan Secanggang yang jauh dari pusat perkotaan dan karena mahalnya biaya bimbingan belajar. Dengan melihat kendala tersebut, membuat para Dosen dan mahasiswa STKIP BUDIDAYA BINJAI merasa terpanggil untuk melakukan pengabdian di daerah tersebut. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini sebagai sarana penyampaian kebermanfaatan ilmu dan rasa kepedulian para dosen dan mahasiswa terhadap masyarakat dibidang pendidikan dalam bentuk pendampingan melalui kegiatan bimbingan belajar di rumah atupun di posko. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini untuk meningkatkan prestasi akademik dan motivasi belajar siswa

Abstract

This Research was conducted for the tenth grade students of SMAS Harapan Bandar Pulo. The total population was 59 then the writer got 26 students as the research sample. The research used one group pre-test and post-test design. Based on the students’ problems in writing before got treatment using Flashcard, students confused to write ideas, students couldn’t develop the paragraph and habitually wrote text in wrong sentence pattern and grammatical error. After conducted the flashcard as the media to study in looking at pre-test and post-test score, the result of the data revealed after using flashcard, the students’ writing score were higher. It was proved in looking at the mean score pre-test (43) and post-test (78). Then after calculated the data, it stated that the value of t-test was 24,64. The degree of freedom (df) is 25 (df = . In looking at the t-table, in df 25 showed that the value of t-table ( was 2,06 for 5% and 2,79 for 1%. The result was proved if the t-test was higher that t-table (24,64 > 2,06). Therefore, the writer concluded that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. The alternative hypothesis declared that there was a significant effect of using Flashcard on students’ writing ability in descriptive text. After having the t-test result, it realized that flashcard gave positive impact. Flashcard helped students to creat ideas, to develop the paragraph and to write the text in correct form.

Abstract

This research want to find out what is the highest rank in English speaking classroom by the internal and also the external side in SMAS Dharma Patra P.Berandan Specifically at XI Ipa 1 classroom with the population 38 students and 18 students were chosen as the samples, it purpose what factors that may contribute the highest score of anxiety in English learning environment based on the students’ perspectives. The method used in this study was qualitative method with phenomenology approach. Eighteen anxious students were selected as the participants. The data were gathered through triagulasi technique they were observation, questionnaire and also interview. In this research have two factors of anxiety they were internal such as fear of making mistake, shyness, lack of self-confidence and lack of motivation and external such as embarrassment, limited vocabulary, grammatical error, friend/classmate and also lack of preparation. Based on the internal and external factors of anxiety the result of the study showed the most influencing that make the highest rank of anxiety of students in speaking was English in class XI Ipa 1 in internal was Lack of  self –confidence and the external was grammatical error that was experienced by students in English Classroom at the XI Ipa 1 SMAS Dharma Patra P.Berandan.

Abstract

This study aims to find: improving students' reading comprehension through the use of the PORPE strategy. This research uses a quasi-experimental design because it is comparable to collecting data of reading comprehension and provides a pre-test and a post-test to collect the data. The instrument used is a reading test. The sample of this research is class XI at KEJAYAAN INDONESIA SMA which consists of 16 students. Samples were taken using a sampling technique. Based on the findings, it was found that the students' scores in understanding the meaning of the reading text increased where the pre-test t-value (66.66) < t-table (83.33) It can be concluded that the increase in students' understanding of the meaning of a reading text increased significantly by using the PORPE strategy

Abstract

Tidak semua daerah mengetahui dan memahami tentang batik baik secara teori ataupun praktek dalam  membuatnya termasuk salah satunya masyarakat Pelawi Utara Kabupaten Langkat. Oleh karena ketidaktahuan atau masih minimnya pengetahuan masyarakat dan adanya salah seorang pengusaha/pengrajin batik asal  Langkat tetapi memproduksi batik di Medan, maka hal inilah menjadi latar belakang terealisasinya kegiatan sosialisasi batik brandan di Kelurahan Pelawi Utara Kabupaten Langkat. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat  dilaksanakan dalam rangka Program Lembaga Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (LPKM) UISU yang mana mengadakan kerjasama dengan PT. Gemilang Nusa Kreasindo atas dukungan dari Pemerintah Daerah Kabupaten Langkat. Adapun tujuan sosialisasi dan pelatihan untuk memberdayakan  masyarakat melalui mengenalkan dan pelestarian batik dengan kekhasannya sesuai kearifan lokal dan budaya dari Kabupaten Langkat. Metode kegiatan adalah sosialisasi batik (hal pandangan umum batik, motivasi, strategi bisnis batik dan pola pemgembangannya serta partisipasi BRI bersedia dalam upaya kemudahan dana ) dihadiri peserta dari kaum ibu rumah tangga dan para remaja putri. Hasil kegiatan pelatihan batik dapat menambah motivasi dan paham dalam mempelajari  jenis batik, khususnya batik bermotif melayu dimana merupakan program LPKM UISU. Semoga program dimaksud dapat terlaksana dengan harapan dapat mewujudkan masyarakat sejahtera karena pendapatan keluarga meningkat.

Abstract

Community Service in 2021 will be carried out in Padang Cermin Village, Finish District, Langkat Regency. In this community service program, we carry out many work programs, one of which is mentoring learning for children in Pasar II Hamlet, Padang Cermin Village. Learning mentoring activities through tutoring are the process of providing assistance or assistance to individuals or groups by one or more supervisors who have expertise in the field in making choices, , adjustments and solving learning problems related to changes in behavior as a result of experience, training or education. Stimulation. Learning assistance through tutoring activities can improve through appropriate group guidance services. To increase student motivation in addition to learning guidance to motivate, it is necessary to have mental guidance by providing positive motivation. Giving rewards seems to make a good contribution. Rewards given are not always in the form of goods but can be in the form of praise or positive consequences. Tutoring institutions outside of school are an alternative for students to get material that has not been taught in school. The decision to include children in courses or tutoring institutions is the right decision for children. There they can gain knowledge that was not taught by teachers at school. However, not all children can take lessons or tutoring. This happened in the children's neighborhood in Pasar II Hamlet, Padang Cermin Village, Finished Subdistrict, which was far from the urban center and because of the high cost of tutoring. By seeing these obstacles, it makes the lecturers and students of STKIP Budidaya Binjai feel called to do service in the area. This community service activity is a means of conveying the usefulness of knowledge and a sense of concern for lecturers and students towards the community in the field of education in the form of assistance through tutoring activities at home or at the post. The purpose of this activity is to improve academic achievement and student motivation.
