Abstract

Tomato plants (Solanum lycopersicum L.) are horticultural commodities that have high nutritional value and economic value and are widely needed by the community. The increase in demand for tomatoes needs to be balanced with efforts to increase production through proper cultivation techniques, one of which is through fertilization. The continuous use of inorganic fertilizers can reduce soil fertility and negatively impact the environment, so a more environmentally friendly fertilization alternative, such as the use of liquid organic fertilizer (POC), is needed. FloraOne® liquid organic fertilizer contains nutrients and microorganisms that have the potential to support plant growth. This study aims to determine the effect of applying FloraOne® liquid organic fertilizer on the growth of tomato plants. The research was carried out using an experimental method with a Complete Random Design (RAL) consisting of seven FloraOne® concentration treatments, namely P0 (control), P1 (0.1%), P2 (0.2%), P3 (0.3%), P4 (0.4%), P5 (0.5%), and P6 (0.6%) with four replicates. The observed parameters included plant height, stem diameter, wet weight, dry weight, and flowering age. The data was analyzed using the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test at a significance level of 5%. The results showed that the application of FloraOne® liquid organic fertilizer did not have a significant effect on the height, diameter, wet and dry weight of tomato plants (p>0.05) while P3 and P6 showed the appearance of flowers in the 8th week. However, descriptively, the 0.3% concentration treatment showed a better growth tendency than the other treatments.

Abstract

Indonesia is a tropical country with a high level of biodiversity, including the diversity of macrofungi which play an important role as decomposers in the process of organic matter decomposition and in maintaining ecosystem balance. The Nagari Parian Lunang Forest Area, Pesisir Selatan, West Sumatra, has humid and relatively natural environmental conditions that potentially support the growth of various species of macrofungi. This study aims to identify the species of macrofungi, determine their potential uses, and analyze the influence of environmental factors on their distribution patterns. This research was a descriptive study conducted from September to December 2025 using an exploration method at several camera trap installation points. The mushrooms found were recorded based on their morphological characteristics, documented, and identified using the Collins Fungi Guide and related scientific literature. Environmental parameters measured included light intensity, soil temperature, and air humidity. The results showed that 28 species of macrofungi were successfully identified. Several species have potential uses as food sources, traditional medicine, and producers of bioactive compounds such as antibiotics and antitumor agents. The results of the Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA) indicated that light intensity, soil temperature, and air humidity influence the distribution patterns of mushrooms at each observation point.

Abstract

The increasing number of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria due to the widespread use of antibiotics has caused health problems, especially in healthcare facilities, one of which is Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The purpose of this study was to examine the potential of Bitter Melon (Momordica balsmina L.) leaves as an antibacterial against S. aureus bacteria. This study included a type of laboratory experimental research using a maceration extraction method with 96% ethanol solvent, while the antibacterial test used a well diffusion method. The results of the study on the potential of M. balsmina leaf extract as an antibacterial against S. aureus bacteria obtained an inhibition zone diameter of 11.3 mm and was categorized as strong. The findings in this study indicate that the bitter melon plant has the potential as a source of antibacterial agents, so further investigation is needed.

Abstract

Penangkapan burung liar di Indonesia menjadi ancaman besar bagi kelestarian spesies dan kesejahteraan hewan. Pusat Pelestarian Satwa (PPS) memiliki peranan vital dalam mengelola burung yang disita melalui serangkaian proses awal, yang mencakup penerimaan, pemeriksaan kesehatan, dan karantina sebelum rehabilitasi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menilai pelaksanaan prinsip bioetika dalam penanganan awal burung di PPS serta mengukur hubungannya dengan kesejahteraan hewan. Metode yang dipakai adalah pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif melalui observasi langsung terhadap penerimaan burung di PPS Sibolangit pada bulan Januari 2026. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa proses penanganan, termasuk pencatatan administratif, pemeriksaan kesehatan awal, serta penempatan dalam kandang karantina, telah dilakukan secara terstruktur. Pemeriksaan fisik dan observasi perilaku membantu petugas dalam menentukan kondisi burung serta memilih metode penanganan yang tepat. Prinsip bioetika seperti manfaat, tidak merugikan, dan keadilan juga telah diterapkan, yang terlihat dari pemberian perawatan yang tepat, penanganan yang berhati-hati, serta perlakuan yang adil terhadap semua burung. Secara keseluruhan, penanganan awal di PPS telah mendukung peningkatan kesejahteraan hewan.

Abstract

Kelapa sawit merupakan salah satu komoditas perkebunan yang memiliki peranan penting dalam perekonomian Indonesia. Namun, produktivitas tanaman kelapa sawit sering terganggu oleh serangan hama, salah satunya adalah Oryctes rhinoceros yang dikenal sebagai kumbang tanduk. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penerapan prinsip bioetik dalam Standar Operasional Prosedur (SOP) pengendalian hama Oryctes rhinoceros pada perkebunan kelapa sawit di PT. Socfin Indonesia Kebun Bangun Bandar. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode observasi langsung dan wawancara terhadap pekerja di lapangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan SOP pengendalian hama telah dilaksanakan dengan baik melalui penggunaan alat pelindung diri serta prosedur penyemprotan yang terstruktur. Penerapan tersebut mencerminkan prinsip bioetik terutama dalam aspek keselamatan kerja dan tanggung jawab terhadap lingkungan. Namun demikian, pemahaman pekerja terhadap konsep bioetik masih terbatas karena sebagian besar pekerja hanya memahami SOP sebagai aturan kerja. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan peningkatan sosialisasi dan pelatihan terkait bioetik agar penerapan SOP dapat dilakukan secara lebih optimal dan berkelanjutan.

Abstract

This research explores the potential of chicken eggshell waste as an alternative biofertilizer to reduce dependence on synthetic chemical fertilizers, which often trigger land degradation. The main focus of this study was to analyze the extent to which eggshell powder application affects the vegetative phase of peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) plants, while also determining the most responsive application dose. The experiment was conducted with a four-stage treatment design: P0 (control), P1 (133.3 g/polybag), P2 (200 g/polybag), and P3 (266.6 g/polybag). Parameters observed included plant height dynamics and leaf productivity. The results showed that the integration of eggshell biofertilizer significantly stimulated plant growth compared to the control. The P3 dose (266.6 g/polybag) was identified as the most effective treatment, with an average plant height of 26 cm and 32 leaves at the end of the observation period. Interestingly, at the intermediate dose (P2), there was evidence of inhibition of stem elongation despite the high leaf count. This phenomenon is thought to be related to nutritional imbalances caused by excess calcium (Ca), which inhibits the absorption of other essential micronutrients. Overall, this study confirms that the use of eggshell waste not only serves as a natural source of calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) for soil pH stabilization but is also effective in sustainably improving the agronomic performance of peanuts.
